Extrait : Jean-Baptiste Corot ou Camille Corot, né le 17 juillet 1796 à Paris et mort dans le 10 arrondissement de Paris, au 56 de la rue du Faubourg-Poissonnière, le 22 février 1875, est un peintre français. Il passa longtemps pour être un peintre amateur qui avait tout loisir à voyager non seulement un peu partout en France mais aussi en Italie, où il résida à trois reprises. Au cours de toutes ses pérégrinations, il ne cessa de peindre des paysages idylliques généralement étoffés de petits personnages selon les règles du paysage classique. Il est enterré au Père Lachaise. Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot est né au numéro 125 de la rue du Bac à Paris. Corot est issu d'une famille de commerçants aisés : sa mère, Marie-Françoise Corot (1768-1851), née Oberson et d'origine suisse, et son père, Jacques Louis Corot (1771-1847) d'origine bourguignonne, gèrent un magasin de mode réputé situé à l'angle de la rue du Bac et du quai Voltaire à Paris. Les Corot ont deux autres enfants, Annette Octavie (1793-1874) et Victoire Anne (1797-1821). Corot, la palette à la main (vers 1830).
