Extractions: NO PROCESSO DE CRIAÇO DE ELIZABETH BISHOP Sílvia Maria Guerra Anastácio (UFBA) Introdução A trajetória intersemiótica da criação de Bishop Analisando a trajetória intersemiótica embutida nos manuscritos de Bishop, percebe-se como vão se processando transmutações de estímulos diversos, notadamente de ordem visual, mas também sonora, em signos verbais. Destaca-se, então, o caráter condensador, sintético da poesia de Bishop, traço que a imagem poética é capaz de registrar e guardar, a partir de sua percepção transformadora. Tal percepção dá margem na escrita de Bishop a um discurso especialmente rico em metáforas, símiles, símbolos, metonímias, à medida em que a autora vai transformando as suas percepções poéticas, inclusive os próprios espaços geográficos, em poesia. Os campos de testagem dessas transformações, usados pela autora para desenvolver o metadiscurso no seu dia-a-dia, são os seus diários, depoimentos, suas notas reflexivas, seus fragmentos de correspondência. À medida em que fala sobre o próprio jogo da criação, metacomunica sobre a trajetória do seu olhar e revela um pouco daquela dinâmica, daquele sistema tão peculiar. Deixa índices de um processo, que se vai desdobrando, à medida em que se vai aquecendo naquele ninho aconchegante e fecundo, que é a memória do autor. She published a reprint of North and South with additions entitled Cold Spring (1955), which won the Pulitzer prize in 1956. She also wrote travel books including Brazil (1967). Extractions: Elizabeth Bishop's affinities with William Wordsworth were remarked long before her death in 1979. Bishop herself confessed them in a letter to Robert Lowell in July, 1951: "On reading over what I've got on hand"she was referring to the poems that were to appear in 1955, in A Cold Spring "I find I'm really a minor female Wordsworthat least, I don't know anyone else who seems to be such a Nature Lover" ( One Art . Robert Pinsky, Willard Spiegelman, Helen Vendler, and David Bromwich were among the first to conduct forays into Bishop's admittedly Wordsworthian sensibility, and Vendler was the first to link Bishop specifically with "the Wordsworth of Lyrical Ballads" Given the large-scale homology between the poets' lives, we would expect to find a corresponding homology in their poetry. Jonathan Barron summarizes the biographical resemblances: the early disappearance of both parents; the rural Eden of childhood that was lost with the child's removal to the spiritual suffocation of unsympathetic, middle-class guardians; the regaining of paradise, if on reduced terms, later in life. Bishop's "Hawkshead was Nova Scotia," writes Barron, "and her Grasmere was Brazil" (299). In the past decade and a half, critical views of Wordsworth's influence on Bishop have taken on a more revisionist tone: Wordsworth's "Romantic" (here, a term of opprobrium) version of the natural world and of naturalized human figures has come to be seen by some as an obstacle that Bishop not only had to overcome, but overthrow. What is targeted for overthrow is, in nearly every case, the Wordsworth of the notorious "egotistical sublime"domineering, intransigent, optimistic, monologistic, masculinist, self-congratulatoryin short, a sentimentalized Victorian parody of himself.
