She spent most of her time eating and complaining. Marilyn was played by Blonde - Barbara Nichols. Barbara started out as a stripper and was quite popular as a pin-up girl in the late 1940's. By 1951, she landed a role on " Broadway Open House" which started her actress career. She had a way about her- chewin g gum and her thick Brooklyn accent gave her away Her voice always reminds me of Fran Dresser and she even had an annoying la ugh to go with it . She usually played " The girl you don't take home to mother" - strippers, gun molls, and " dames" . Her performances were always entertaining and she was a regular on The Jack Benny Show where Benny, would frequently cast Ms. Nichols as his brash, gum-chewing steady date on the weekly TV series.

It was in the 1960s in New York City that she made a name as a poet, connecting not only with the New York School writers Frank O'Hara, John Ashbery and James Schuyler, but also the painters of the Abstract Expressionist movement, whose replacement of representation by gesture would (along with other painterly attributes) influence her poetry. Some startling and experimental collections over the next decade - most famously Moscow Mansions (1973) and The Countess from Minneapolis (1976) - set her work at a critical distance from both the autobiography and overt emotionalism of O'Hara and Schuyler and the protracted vocalisation and syntax of meditation that characterise Ashbery. Guest's work seemed to run on a parallel track to the innovations of the Language group, while speaking through traditions of aestheticism and of female-authored modernism, yet simultaneously showing no group affiliations at all.
