He went to Addicks Elementary, Katy and Cy-Fair High Schools, before joining the U. S. Army in 1977 where he served as a combat engineer. After working for the family business, at the age of 33, he returned to school mainly to learn the craft of writing. His fiction first appeared in Raconteur in 1995 and since has been published numerous times: in Hadrosaur Tales 5 and 7, in the University of Houston Clear Lake's award winning literary magazine, Bayousphere, and in the Write Gallery e-zine.     Extractions: Montague Rhodes James (1862-1936) is known as one of the originators of the modern ghost story. In reviewing James' work, H. P. Lovecraft wrote "...gifted with an almost diabolic power of calling horror by gentle steps from the midst of prosaic daily life, is the scholarly Montague Rhode James, Provost of Eton College, antiquary of note, and recognized authority on medieval manuscripts and cathedral history. Dr. James, long fond of telling spectral tales at Christmastide, has become by slow degrees a literary weird fictionist of the very first rank; and has developed a distinctive style and method likely to serve as models for an enduring line of disciples. "The art of Dr. James is by no means haphazard, and in the preface to one of his collections he has formulated three very sound rules for macabre composition. A ghost story, he believes, should have a familiar setting in the modern period, in order to approach closely the reader's sphere of experience. Its spectral phenomena, moreover, should be malevolent rather than beneficent; since fear is the emotion primarily to be excited. And finally, the technical patois of 'occultism' or pseudo-science ought carefully to be avoided; lest the charm of casual verisimilitude be smothered in unconvincing pedantry."

Whistler lived as an expatriate, alternating between London and Paris depending on the local artistic climate at the time. Egotistical, abrasive, and yet extremely talented, he stands as an isolated figure in art history, never directly associated with a specific style or school of painting. As a result, Whistler's work has in modern times rarely received the attention it deserves. The exhibition "James McNeill Whistler", now ending its run at the National Gallery in Washington, attempts to remedy this inattention by displaying major works spanning his artistic career. "At The Piano", 1858-59 ( 640 x 445 / 64 k / jpeg ) Had Whistler continued with subjects such as "At the Piano", his acceptance into genteel art society would have been assured. "Wapping," however, was soundly rejected by the art establishment. Whistler's confrontation of this rejection foreshadowed the iconoclastic nature of his art that would continue for the rest of his life.

    Extractions: Has it really been that long since I documented an update? I am updating the site, but apparently I'm not noting it here. I just updated Q*Bert with some pictures of a CPO install. I also have pictures of Tempest, and those should go online soon. Updated Q*Bert information. Includes new pictures and a rare (?) or unique marquee. I've finally got the site to a somewhat respectable state. The navigation should be a bit easier. In the next few weeks I hope to have up new pictures for Tempest and Q*Bert. I've picked up another new machine: a Tempest mini. I don't have pictures yet, but I will put them up as soon as I get them. I am almost done restoring the Q*Bert, and I'll have some pictures of that soon as well. I'm also looking at a new pinball, so I'm going to add a pinball section. Also, plan for another site re-design. I need to reorganize the pages to make it easier to navigate. I recently picked up a new machine! It was quite a deal. Look for a new Q*Bert section soon (in a couple of weeks or so).

His early involvement and competition at a national level with sheep, cattle, horses and poultry led to an interest in moving from family pets to the world of dogs. Over the years he bred and exhbited a number of breeds, but his prime area of activity was with Scottish Terriers. From a very small kennel over 30 Champions emerged, including a number of Best in Show and Specialty winners. Fifteen of these Champions held both American and Canadian titles. He served on the Executive Board of a number of all-breed clubs and was the first President of the Irish Wolfhound Club of Canada. Mr. Reynolds began judging at the championship level in 1967 and by the early '70's was one of the youngest all-breed judges in the world. His first judging assignment in the U.S. was in 1972 and since that time he has appeared frequently on judging panels in the USA. He has officiated at "of America" National Specialties for over 30 breeds. He has judged at most major shows including Westminster, Detroit, Houston, Philadelphia and Santa Barbara and has been honored to judged BIS at Montgomery County twice. In addition he adjudicates frequently in Canada, Australia, South America and Europe.

    Extractions: James Marshall was born in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up sixteen miles outside of the town on the family farm. His father, who worked for the railroad, had his own dance band in the thirties and appeared on the radio. His mother, also musical, sang in the church choir. So it wasn't surprising when Jim considered playing the viola for a career and received a scholarship to attend the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. But during an airplane trip he was jerked out of his seat and injured his hand, and that was the end of his musical career. He returned to San AntonioCollege and later Trinity, where he studied French under Harry Allard, his future collaborator. After moving East, Jim graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in history and French. The French major somehow wound up trying to teach Spanish in a Catholic school in Boston. Before long he was looking for a new profession. On a fateful summer afternoon in 1971 James Marshall lay on his hammock drawing pictures. His mother was inside the house watching Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf on TV. The strident voices of the movie s protagonists George and Martha, split the quiet air, and as the sketches began to take shape, history was made ... and James Marshall never had to look for another profession.
