Extractions: Thursday, November 21, 2002 Phone: Foundation awards minigrants to District 54 employees The Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation awarded 85 minigrants this month to 125 staff members during the District 54 School Board meeting on Nov. 21, 2002. The grants will be spent on programs in music, bilingual education, art, physical education, literacy, etc. Some projects will integrate various parts of the curriculum. We had a lot of creative ideas and that made it hard to choose, said Joanne Ayers, a Foundation trustee and a member of the Foundations minigrant committee. Last year 57 mini-grants were awarded totaling $13,262. This year, the Foundation awarded 28 more grants totaling $18,000. The Schaumburg Township Elementary School Foundation is a nonprofit organization governed by a volunteer board and dedicated to raising and distributing financial and other resources to District 54 schools for enrichment programs. Anyone wishing to make a donation of time, money, property or other talents to the foundation can contact Foundation Manager Sophia Grassa at (847) 352-0652, Found54@aol.com

Summerseat Home Prepares For Gen. Washington's Arrival County. By diane villano Courier Times. Club. diane villano can be reachedat 215949-4211 or dvillano@phillyBurbs.com. December 06, 2002. http://www.phillyburbs.com/couriertimes/news/news/1206summerseat.htm
Extractions: Visitors are invited to take a step back in time to historic Summerseat tomorrow and witness the arrival of Gen. George Washington at his first headquarters in Bucks County. Washington stayed at the home owned by Thomas Barclay from Dec. 8-16, 1776, right before the Continental Army's crossing of the Delaware. According to W.W. Davis' History of Bucks County, Barclay was a "prominent and patriotic resident of Philadelphia." He was also the son-in-law of Adam Hoops, who constructed the manor house in about 1765. At approximately 10 a.m. tomorrow, Morrisville resident Sam Snipes will drive Washington, aka James Gallagher, in a horse-drawn carriage from the Morrisville Shopping Center down Pennsylvania Avenue, Franklin Street and Harper and Hillcrest avenues, arriving at Summerseat at about 10:30 a.m. Washington will be accompanied by his troops, portrayed by the Historic Military Impressions and the Washington Crossing Reenactors Society. The latter will also honor Gallagher for keeping history about the first U.S. president alive.
Truman Working For New Stadium By diane villano Courier Times. The signs are coming. diane villano is a freelancewriter and can be reached at news@phillyBurbs.com. September 30, 2002. http://www.phillyburbs.com/couriertimes/news/news_archive/0930trumanstadium.htm
Extractions: The signs are coming. Four 4- by 8-foot signs soon will be posted around the stadium at Harry S Truman High School in Bristol Township. The signs, donated by Pepsi and Papa John's, will solicit funds for a proposed $1.6 million stadium renovation project. The stadium, built in 1959, is in dire need of attention, officials said. The committee proposes an 8,000-seat stadium with locker rooms, a concession stand and restrooms - all without any expense to taxpayers. Franklin D. Roosevelt Middle School guidance counselor and committee grant writer Kathy Horwatt said the committee has submitted applications to the state Department of Community and Economic Development for $100,000 for site preparation. State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson, R-6, and state Rep. Anthony Melio, D-141, support the request. The application is the first step to apply for redevelopment funds similar to those Tomlinson and state Rep. Tom Corrigan, D-140, were able to get for Bristol Junior-Senior High School's athletic field. Although the Truman project is on a much larger scale, Tomlinson said he plans to "follow the same [tactic]" he did with the Bristol field project. He hopes to have funding approved before the new governor takes office in January.

February Prepared by Amy June, 2000 Meeting Date: Saturday, June 17, 2000 Attendees: Paula, Diane, Deborah, Yoshiko, Emily and Amy. Welcome to our newest member, Kim. Regrets: Darleen, Christine R. and Christine P. and Dawn. The June meeting was the first under the library's new hours. The library was exceptionally quiet, except for the clayers in the McIntyre room. Paula researched the issue of baking clay during clay days at the library. It looks like we will be able to give it a try at a future meeting. The McIntyre room has windows that open, which will help with ventilation. We can also bring in a small fan to help with circulation. I am pleased to announce the grand "opening" of the guild's new web site. Kim volunteered to set up a temporary site using TrellixWeb, which is a product of her company, Trellix Corp. in Concord. Keep in mind that the web site is a work in progress. Thank you to all members who volunteered their services in creating a web site. Check out our new web site at newenglandclay.tripod.com
