Product Description
The training, resourcefulness and creativity of the US Special Forces soldier make him capable of jobs that few other soldiers could handle, in situations where traditional arms and movement do not apply. Tom Clancy traces the transformation of the Special Forces from the small core of outsiders of the 1950s through the cauldron of Vietnam and to the rebirth of the SF in the late 1980s and 1990s as the bearer of the largest, most mixed and most complex set of missions in the US military. From Vietnam to Laos to Panama and El Salvador to Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq, these are stories of raids, counter-terrorism, hostage rescues, reconnaissance, counter-insurgency and psychological operations - and also of building settlements, teaching civilians, cleaning up water supplies and saving lives. ... Product Description
The second volume in the bestselling series of high-tech, high-action thrillers created by Tom Clancy and Steve Pieczenik -- repackaged in a stunning new-look cover. In Tom Clancy's Op-Centre, bestselling author Tom Clancy and Steve Pieczenik, novelist and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, have created an astonishingly popular thriller series, which has already sold over 1 million HarperCollins paperbacks. Now the first three volumes are being repackaged to coincide with the publication of the latest volume in the series, Acts of War. In this second volume, the new President of Russia is trying to create a new democratic regime. But there are strong elements within the country that are trying to stop him: the ruthless Russian Mafia, the right-wing nationalists and those nefarious forces that will do whatever it takes to return Russia to the days of the Czar. The Op-Centre team begins a race against the clock and against the hardliners. Their task is made even more difficult by the discovery of a Russian counterpart...but this one's controlled by those same repressive hardliners. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Tricked
I thought that this was a genuine Tom Clancy book but wasted my money. Has a cover which is very similar to the "executive Orders" hardback, same style writing, same style cover with US flag.
But not Clancy at all, not the one who writes all those books.
Ths story is a weak one with the end coming rapidly and all crammed into the final few pages, no real explanation at all. So They Went and Elected A Jewish President

1-0 out of 5 stars Rip off
Yeah, that's right...this book is a rip off. Amazon sends out a notice that "Tom Clancy" has written a new book...After the first page or 2 I began to think the author I've known as "Tom Clancy" all these years must have sunk into severe dementia or someone lost one heckuva bet to publish this piece of amateurish drivel. The real Tom Clancy could have taken the premise and been brilliant (yes, I know, he's really the Michaelangelo of writing...it's his name on the cover but he has a stable of "apprentices" and "journeymen" doing most of the actual work).

If this author (the other Tom Clancy) had a modicum of talent, the book might have worked. But knowing a few Yiddish words doesn't a story make.

This book is going straight to the recycling bin...

1-0 out of 5 stars Obviously Not The Real Deal
If you visit the iUniverse page describing this title and take a look at the autor's biography page it describes a retired Navy man who is a native of Brooklyn, NY.Tom Clancy is from Maryland and never served in the Navy, although he reveres military men and women, he tried to enlisted in the Army but was excused because of his poor vision.Mr Clancy, while never being Politically Correct, is a champion of the Jewish people in the US, having purchased a summer camp called Camp Kaufman specifically intended for underprivileged Jewish children.I have to assume the Clancy Franchise will be suing these people for misrepresentation.

1-0 out of 5 stars completely bogus
Look at the publisher. If you do a search you'll see the Iuniverse is a website that offers books which the author can self-publishing his/her work. If you look for this title you'll see what I'm talking about. I wouldn't doubt if there's a law suit already in the works. Amazon should do more research before sending this one out. Silly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Confused
I got an email from Amazon. This product sounds bogus! Did he write this or is this "official" TC licensed book with his name on it? Anyway, sounds strange to me. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun action packed thriller.
I picked up "Tom Clancy's Op-Center" to throw some fun reading into my reading schedule. It was an older paperback that I had never read.I've always enjoyed Tom Clancy's novels, and while this was not the same as those he writes, it was still an enjoyable read.It is the kind of action yarn when you want to escape a bit and just read for fun.(Because I read so many non-fiction books, I need to throw these kinds of novels into the mix once in a while)

I guess one thing that hooked me was the mention of Yangyang on the first page.I've visited this small village in the North East corner of South Korea since it is one of the places my wife lived when she was a little girl, and it was not far from where I lived while training in Hapkido in the country of the art's origin. So, because of the North-South Korean story line, I found myself interested in this tale.

There were some minor inaccuracies but they didn't take away from the story. It was a fun thriller that moved along at a quick pace. There are eighty-eight chapters in this 387 page book.As you can see, it is the kind of novel that switches from one scene to another after a few pages.I liked this and it helped keep the action moving along quickly.

If you like action tales that incorporate national defense, intelligence, and crisis management technology, combined with some interesting characters, even if they are not developed as thourouly as some books, and a plot that revolves around a North and South Korean crisis, you will enjoy this quick fun action packed thriller.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Action Techno-Thriller
I've read this and many other Tom Clancy books multiple times and enjoy his work. He has faultless credentials and his works are accurate, believable and give all who read the impression the author knows every bit about what he's writing.I read 2/3 of this book in one sitting, but didn't get back to it until a month later. By then I'd forgotten where I left off and picked up again where the storyline seemed familiar. It's a very credible scenario, a cell of South Koreans using the conflict and world assumptions to their own ends. I've lived in Japan and yes, very many Koreans have a bad historical taste in their mouths as regards Japan, and the Japanese continually tussle with the American presence serving both as umbrella and magnet concerning potential hostilities. This story is exciting, it has us teetering on the brink of a nuclear shootout as elements from both sides scramble to find out exactly who's behind the bombing and susbequent escalation of tension, with a devious twist thrown in exposing faults in heretofore impregnable technical superiority. There are a couple of minor inaccuracies that should have been caught, though, in Chapter 62 there's mention of the "South Pacific" as the task force-carrying aircraft speeds from Hawaii to Midway Island. Sorry, wrong hemisphere, Hawaii's some 1300-1600 miles north of the Equator. The author's dating himself here as "South Pacific" was a common catch-all term for Pacific operations in WWII. Next, in Chapter 67, troops run across a rain-slickened Osaka taxiway into a waiting C-9 "chopper". Huh? The C-9 Nightingale is a four-engine medevac (medical evacuation) airplane, not a helicopter. Earlier in the chapter one of the characters mentioned he'd prefer flying into Korea on a Black Hawk versus an unarmed C-9, maybe the author made a mental slip. Who knows? I enjoyed reading this, and will likely read it again in the future. Characters were entertaining. Some of the technological prowess displayed at the end was a bit farfetched - reminded me of the extreme satellite zoom-in sequence to a woman tanning her bare breasts on Steven Seagal's *Under Siege 2" - but on the other hand quite unsettling in its implications. It will make you think twice about what you do by yourself outdoors in the open. Overall, a nice read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Tom Clancy's Op-Center
Book Review

The book Tom Clancy's Op-Center was written by Tom Clancy. The book was published in 1995 by the Berkley Publishing Group. The book is three hundred and eighty-seven pages long and is a suspense novel. The book is about a mysterious bombing in Seoul, South Korea, with no one to blame.
The book Op-Center takes place in Seoul, South Korea, the demilitarized zone and the op-center. The protagonists are the United States and South Korea. The antagonist is North Korea. The major conflict is that the KCIA doesn't have any leads to the mysterious bombing. Over a hundred people died in the mysterious bombing.
I personally did not like the book Op-Center. A strong part of the book is when the KCIA sets up a tact team to kill North Korean officials. The weakness of the book was the constant jumping around from place to place. I did not like the beginning of the book because it was really slow. The theme of the book is not relevant to my life because I am not in the CIA. The book is very long and boring because in a lot of chapters they talk about nothing.
I got really bored by reading Tom Clancy's Op-Center. At first I was hesitant to read the book because it was really long. If you don't like long, boring, confusingbooks, I would not recommend reading this book.

Following the deregulation of computer encryption codes, an unforeseen Pandora's Box is opened. Terrorists now have a potential back door into the nation's defence computers, and someone plans to use it. One man understands the danger and has the resources to act before it's too late.Amazon.com Review
Like Politika, thefirst installment in the Tom Clancy's Power Plays series createdwith Martin Greenberg, ruthless.com offers the international scopeand techno-thrills of the Jack Ryan-John Clark novels--but, importantly, without Jack Ryan and John Clark. For many Clancy fans, that means thatruthless.com will be a disappointment. The hero is again RogerGordian, and Gordian's claim to fame is his ownership of UpLinkCommunications; he was also the man who struggled (with his Sword securityteam) to avert a global nuclear war in Politika. This time Gordian'sconcerns are slightly more modest. As a champion ofencryption technology,Gordian has fought the shifting political winds that have tried toderegulate his industry. But now, he faces attacks from within: UpLink isthe subject of a hostile takeover bid that threatens to put the highlysensitive codes that secure military communications into the hands ofinternational terrorists. While it is more violent than the usualJack Ryan fare, and Gordian and others in the cast are left underdevelopedin the complex shifts and turns of the plot, ruthless.com has many moments thatrecall the best of Clancy (Gordian, for example, maintains a highly ethicalstreak despite his corporate panache). --Patrick O'Kelley ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
I've enjoyed the carefully crafted books really written by Clancy.
But this piece of garbage depends upon such gimmicks as a murderous gangster who belongs in a cheap horror film, seamy sex, unreal major characters. After 62 pages I threw it in the garbage, where it was quite at home.
I wasted a little money buying the thing, but I won't waste my precious hours being disgusted by it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Thrilling
Since this is the first Tom Clancy book I've read I can't compare it to the other numerous books he has written over the years.Even though I did not read the first in this series, I felt I didn't miss out on much. This book filled me in on what I needed to know.
The book's focus is on two power giants- Roger Gordian and Marcus Cain.Gordian runs Uplink International and Cain Monolith Technologies.Gordian's the good guy and Cain's the bad guy.And so the story goes... Cain is trying to take over Uplink so that he can get his hands on what Gordian has been holding onto for years, and during all this there's violence, lying, cheating, and deception happening throughout every aspect of the take over.Of course, as in all fairy tales, the good guy prevails and saves his company from Cain the slime.

2-0 out of 5 stars Used Book
Book took 42 days to arrive. It did not seem to be in good condition as it not only had a folded front cover but also a torn back cover.

2-0 out of 5 stars War games as summer camp education
Together with his parents Julio Cortez returns to his country of birth: Cortequay in South America. This country has missed any technological advancement since the last twenty years and is currently organising its first democratic elections. Julio's father is a candidate for the presidency, but the opposition will stop at nothing to keep him away from power. At home Julio's Netforce friends miss him terribly. Certainly during the flight simulations organised at a summer camp, the absence of Julio influences their results during the fierce simulated air battles. Julio has always been their champion. During one of these simulations, suddenly Julio appears with the message that he got kidnapped in Cortequay. But his friends are not sure what they can do. How can they get in contact with Julio? How do they convince people that Julio and his family are in grave trouble? And most of all: is Julio's message authentic or only a trap set in a world where nothing is what it seems?

Although the story of The Ultimate Escape starts from a great idea, the whole story is lacking much credibility. The denouement is so lame that even the first chapters give you a good idea on how the story will end. But the most worrying part of this novel is its setting. Knowing that this book is written for a young audience it is quite disturbing to see that replaying war battles is considered as a very educational and important way of learning history. Even more, German students are by default forced to replay World War II battles as part of the German forces. This way they are considered to try and reverse the outcome of the war. I do not know what the authors were thinking, but such a simplistic view on the world, can hardly be seen as a good starting point for a novel aimed at youngsters. How wrong can you get?

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that makes me wanna keep reading!!!
This thriller written about a young boy and his family trapped in a virtual prison in the socialist country of Corteguay, takes place in the year 2025 when computers are our main source of daily activities. When Julio Cortez realizes he's being trapped in a prison by the Corteguayan government, he seeks imediate attention to his friends for help. Matt, Andy, Megan, Mark, and David are all shocked about what he has to say and plan to make every move possible to help their friend. The only way they are able to make contact with him are through simulated flight missions of past wars. Julio himself has had success in such simulations, but in Corteguay, technology is scarce as the citizens there have remained to tools from the 21st century. Almost all contact to the outside world is impossible. Julio's father, Ramon Cortez, is running for president here in Corteguay's first public election. The pressure on the family is intense as they face torture and death. This makes Julio's friends time limited.

4-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate espcape T.J.

The ultimate escape is a book written in a series called net force.Net force is a series about a group of kids that are all friends and play games in a virtual reality world where the enter competitions and play replay events that happened in the past and some that they think may happen in the future.

One of the best virtual fighters for the net force explorers Julio Cortez goes to Corteguay with the rest of his family his dad, mom, and sister. His dad is going to run for president and everything is going good until they get into the vans to get taken safely away but instead they were taken prisoners. When the net force explorers were competing without their ace of aces player they notice he comes up in the game and tells then what has gone wrong but no one believes them and they think it was a rift until it happened a second time then the net force explorers tell the head man in charge on net force matts dad and they take action. If you want to know you are just going to have to read the book yourself you can either buy new or used at amazon.com or you can go to your local library and pick it up there.

This book is a must read book is a must read and Tom Clancy has a wonderful writing style. In this book especially he leaves you hanging waiting to find out what is going to happen he does a lot of jumping from place to place but after a couple of chapters you don't really notice it and you can trust me because I am not a reader but this book didn't get put down F

4-0 out of 5 stars Very thorough walk-through and tips...just one problem...
Overall, this is a very detailed walk-through of the game.It has all the details of the weapons: damage, range, accuracy, penetration, mag capacity, fire modes and unlock criteria. It covers tactical aids such as shields, riot gear, smokes, tear gas and much more.It tells you where the checkpoints are in each chapter...thats a big help as the game makes you go a long ways before you get to some checkpoints, and you can't save progress...only checkpoints save the day.The maps are also beneficial along with armor descriptions, achievement unlocks, upgrade unlocks and multiplayer hints, this has it all.

A few downsides for me.The first being it is more of a magazine style in size and quality paper. So it will fold, crease and tear very, very easily. The biggest drawback for me is the ridiculously small screen shots they have on the pages to represent your position in the game. Each screen shot is about 1 inch by 1.5 inches...that's all.Not to mention a lot of the game and therefore screenshots are very dark, and basically show you nothing.Good thing there is a description of the walkthrough.

Otherwise, this is a great manual and will help me save Vegas the 2nd time around! ... Read more

Join the net force explorers in their latest adventure when something is amuck at the local fencing studio.

This series of books is aimed at the younger reader and as such tend to be easy books to read. Even so they keep you coming back for more and it's hard to put them down once you start.

This was a good paced book, easy to read, yet captivating at the same time. This one is worth the money, buy it today you won't be disappointed.
