SO EXCITED TO READ THEM AGAIN

Dr Seuss Rocks
I am very happy to have purchased this collection of Dr.Seuss's Beginner Books.I read every one of them when I was a child and thoroughly enjoyed them.When the opportunity to buy them for my son arose, I couldn't place the order fast enough.These books are perfect for new readers.They not only offer the opportunity to enjoy reading, but they give new readers easy to understand words that help them to better enhance their reading skills.

Dr. Suess's children books are wonderful educational tools for kids
I love Dr. Seuss's books! When I was 32 yrs. old I gave birth to my only child/son.During his infant years and through 5-6 years old, I read him all of Dr. Suess's books and fairy tale books over and over. Through constant repetition of his favorite books, he was able to recite and read out loud an entire book by himself and also knowing when to exactly turn the page of a book. I credit Dr. Seuss for making my son's early years a wonderful and fun reading/listening experience of "magical" books filled with excitement, adventure and laughter. He is now 27 years old, married and is expecting his first child soon. He still remembers and can recite "One fish, Two Fish". He claims Dr. Suess's books is one of the best educational tools you can give to a child to learn how to read and still make it fun for them.I bought this beginner book collection, so his child can also enjoy the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss!

I bought this set for a grand-niece - I read them all to my own children & hope someday to read them to my grandchildren. Always relevant no matter where you are in life
Typically this book makes a great graduation gift, be it high school, college or some other similar milestone. It easily speaks to those who are setting sail out into the world. I read this book for the first time many years after I last graduated from anything so it's a testament to this timeless story that I was surprised how much 'Oh, The Places You'll Go' was relevant to my life at present.

As I write this review I am currently unemployed during the Great Recession. I'm optimistic for the future but, to borrow from the book, I've come down from the Lurch and now I'm in a Slump. This is not a fun place to be though I'm sure it will define me for the rest of my life, good or bad.

If you're thinking about giving this book as a gift, and you should, don't forget to read it again yourself. You'll be surprised how much it's speaking to you now.

So-so
The book was NOT in very good condition--it had a dedication written in the front, damage to the binding and was missing the front cover. It arrived two days later than the latest anticipated shipping date, after a wait of about three weeks, which was disappointing considering reviews had stated that this company was noted fro its prompt sending of books. I would not recommend purchasing again from this company.

This was recommended by my girlfriend. Great book for all ages, and would be a great gift for high school or even college graduations.

Favorite Book
This was my favorite book as a child, and I was not disappointed when I decided to purchase it for my toddler. It is still as enjoyable to me now as when I was a little one!

The Genius of Dr. Seuss
I am a huge fan of Dr. Seuss in general, but this underappreciated gem is without a doubt my favorite of all.

The poetry is outstanding, and appeals to kids from 0 to 80."At a fork in the road, near the vale of va-vode / Five foot-weary salesmen have laid down their loads / All day they've raced round in the heat at top speeds / unsuccessfully trying to sell zizzer-zoof seeds / which nobody wants because nobody needs / tomorrow will come, they'll go back to their chore / they'll start on the road zizzer-zoofing once more"

The illustrations are excellent, typical Seuss whimsy.

Best of all, this book WORKS.I mean, it gets your kid sleepy.It's pretty long, but that just adds to the effect.The lazy rhymes, the pictures and stories of yawning and sleeping creatures, the escalating count ("our who's-asleep-score is now way past the millions..."), the length...it all has the effect of detaching their mind from the stuff that happened that day, expanding into the realm of imagination and.....zzzzzzz.......

Our favorite
We first read this wonderful book to our daughter when she was 4 (she's now in her 40's).Her son, 10, has always requested it when he visits us for sleepovers. We bought this latest copy for friends who have adopted a 14-month-old.And we still quote phrases to each other at appropriate moments.Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book is a delight.

Great Book!!
I bought this book for my daughter's fourth birthday. She loves this book and has me read it to her several times a week. I am also an elementary school teacher and read this book once a month for the students with birthdays. The students really enjoy this book.

Really Great Book :)
We just got this book for our 3 year olds birthday. My husband read it to him as soon as he got up so it would start off his birthday (since he wouldn't get his present until after my husband got home from work). BIG hit! He loved it and still loves it :)It is a longer Dr Seuss book, be warned! It isn't as quick a read as say, cat in the hat.

Ill Conceived
I read through some of this volume in Hastings and was glad I didn't purchase it online.There are several big problems.The first thing I noticed, just looking at the cover, is that it has a lot of overlap with two other one-volume collections: Six by Seuss and Hatful of Seuss.In particular, Yertle the Turtle, Mulberry Street, If I Ran the Zoo, Sneetches, Lorax, Sleep Book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Horton Hears a Who, are all available in those other two collections so if you have them already, you're only getting five new books.Looking inside, I saw that all the illustrations are small so they fit two on a page, and you can tell pretty easily that many of the pics have been cropped.Even with all that corner cutting, the book is still too heavy.So far I really don't think this was made with children in mind.Then I looked at the table of contents and saw that it said "The Sneetches" not "The Sneetches and Other Stories." Same with Yertle the Turtle.I flipped to the appropriate pages and sure enough, only the cover stories of those two books were there.Personally my favorite story in Sneetches was "What Was I Scared Of?" which wasn't even there!Meanwhile, Hatful of Seuss has the full Sneetches book, beginning to end, and Six by Seuss has the complete Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories.(I was actually going to give this two stars until I came to this part of the review.)

The (One) Positive: It contains a lot of Seuss lore and scratchwork between stories.You'll see things like old first draft drawings of Green Eggs and Ham, Dr. Seuss's "Epic Poem" (which is very short), and first appearances of characters he'd later incorporate in his books.Definitely worth a read, but do it in a bookstore or library, unless you're rich enough to spend an extra $20 just to get those bits and pieces.

Summary:

*If you get this book, you're going to get something that's heavy, cramped, and incomplete with a few things of historical interest in between.

*You could get 8 of these books in better one-volume collections, collections that present them the way they deserve to be presented.(Can you tell I like those other collections?)

*Ignore this review if you're rich.Bits of this thing are awesome.

Great book for any Dr. Seuss fan - young or old!
"Your Favorite Seuss: A Baker's Dozen by the One and Only Dr. Seuss" has provided my daughter and I many hours of enjoyment.We have a lot of the single editions of Dr. Seuss tales, but we have read ever story in this larger book numerous times as well.Yes, it is a bit heavy for her to hold, so I hold the book as we read.When she was younger, I read the stories to her, and she enjoyed following along enjoying them emensely.As she got older, she started to read the stories to me and had equally as much fun.She was reading these stories at five years old, and now that she is six, we still read them sometimes.I believe reading these and the other books helped her become a great reader for her age.

In this large hardcover volume, there are thirteen of the most popular Dr. Seuss stories.The stories included in this book are: And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, McElligot's Pool, If I Ran The Zoo, Horton Hears A Who, The Cat In The Hat, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Yertle The Turtle, Happy Birthday To You, Green Eggs And Ham, The Sneetches, Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book, The Lorax, and Oh The Places You'll Go.Besides these thirteen great tales accompanies by the original drawings, there is an introduction by Janet Schulman describing who Dr. Seuss was and essays before each story.These essays and additional information about the famous author are not yet interesting to my daughter, but I enjoyed them.

Besides the fun characters and words found in the stories by Dr. Seuss, there are messages that are as relevant today as when they were written.The Sneetches illustrates the idiocy of thinking one race is superior to another, or in this case, having a star on your belly or not being the determining factor of who is superior.And one could easily argue that the environmental message found in The Lorax is even more important now than ever before.I'm sort of glad this is one of my daughter's favorites.

The final pages list all of the books Dr. Seuss wrote and the year he wrote them.I didn't realize he wrote forty-three books between 1937 and 1990.Although when I read through the list, I know all the titles.I know many from when I was a kid, and I guess that's why I'm happy to share them with my daughter.I think this is a great book for any Dr. Seuss fan - young or old.

Great content, but the book is too heavy!
This is a fabulous collection of Dr. Seuss books, however the book is so large and unwieldy that I dread reading it to my daughter at bedtime.It weighs a ton and the pages are large, which makes it uncomfortable to balance and hard to read.I actually was on Amazon tonight looking to buy some of the individual books; I think they're the way to go, if you're planning on reading these stories to a young child.If you're just looking to have a great anthology of Dr. Seuss to read to yourself or collect, then this is your book.

Great collection of wonderful stories by the amazing Dr. Seuss!!!I bought this for my baby so that he will be able to grow up hearing and reading Dr. Seuss's silly rhymes starting before his birth. :) It's a great way to get several books in one place at an unbelievable price!

This book is SMALL!
I bought this book to put in my son's stocking, so the small size is just fine. But for those of you that think this would be a normal book size, it's not! It's maybe 4x4 or so. But It's perfect for babies and young toddlers because the entire book is hard instead of paper.

This is NOT the classic:save your money!
Amazon may bill this as the "small, sturdy board-book version of his classic ABC book," but it is most decidedly not.

Dr. Seuss's ABC was one of my daughter's favourite books, and her granny gave her this as a gift.I was initially excited, thinking we could take it with us in the car and not worry about wearing out the pages.But then, a couple of weeks later, I actually tried reading it.

You have to know this about Dr. Seuss:he cared about words.Deeply.His words - okay, and the fabulous illustrations - were his life's work.He played with them and worked with them to make them not only rhyme but bounce joyously across the page.Dr. Seuss's ABC does that - it bounces.The board book version?Nope.

Does it make a difference?Maybe your toddler doesn't know any better.And maybe you didn't grow up with Seuss, don't love Seuss; don't care one way or the other.You should still care that a marvellous classic (that wasn't too hard to understand to begin with) has been dumbed-down to sell a product (not a book) to you and the child you love.

The words are simplified from the original, with many rhymes missing.Some of his whimsical illustrations have been left out as well to make space for the fewer pages of the board-book "version."What's left is not a Dr. Seuss book at all but a piece of merchandise, yet another shameless cashing-in on the beloved Seuss legacy.My prediction?Next step, Disney (unless Disney has bought the rights to Seuss already).

It seems that many board-book "versions" of classic stories do NOT actually contain the classic story (see my review of "Caps for Sale" for another example).

Please buy these books only in person or at least scan all the pages carefully online to make sure you're getting exactly the literary experience you're paying for.

fun read
my 2 1/2 yr old loves this book to read before bed. he will take the book from me and has read it to me. he knows all his ABC's already by sight so he thinks its fun to repeat them in the rhyme and has most the "fun" words memorized or tries to say them best he can.

Fall in love with alphabets
I found this book very helpful in teaching kids alphabets in an interesting way. My daughter loves it. Very creative book. I would recommend.

Fiffer Feffer Feff?
Who isn't a fan of Dr. Seuss? We aren't talking about the live-action movies but the books full of bizarre rhyming and rhythm.

The good doctor is in full swing with ABC: An Amazing Alphabet Book.

Each letter begins with the same cadence: "Big A, little a, what begins with a?" followed by some goofy wordsmithing: "Aunt Annie's Alligator".

My son enjoys looking at the pictures and hearing me go through the cadence.

My older niece, however, got into the recitation and knew what was coming next so that by the time I was on G, she said with me, "Big G, little g, what begins with g?"

Your kids will enjoy the colorful pictures of the Seussian creatures and giggle at things like the "fiffer feffer feff".

THIS ONE IS OVER 50 NOW AND STILL AN ABSOLUTE DELIGHT AND USEFUL TOO.
This review is addressing the original version of this book.Readers should take note that there have been several versions printed throughout the years; some good, some not so good.If at all possible, stick with this original.

I am very fond of alphabet books, something I have sort of collected over the years.I am also extremely fond of Dr. Seuss, so I suppose that in my case I simply could not go wrong with this one.My wife and I also used this particular work to work with both of our children when they were learning to read and learning their alphabet, and it was one of their favorites.

Seuss of course uses many of his strange and wonderful characters throughout the entire work and of course he uses some of his rather off-beat words and syntax also.I really would advise that an adult read this one with the younger child as some of the words, and indeed, illustrations may take some explaining.

These are but two example of how Dr. Seuss has use letters and both, as are all the letters, are accompanied by delightfully typical Seuss illustrations.

This work is approximately 50 years old as of this writing and I must say that it suffers not one bit from age.It is as valid and exciting now as it was way back then.

The Genius Book!
This book did teach my son the alphabet--by the time he was 20 months old he was reading all the letters on vehicle license plates as we'd walk through a parking lot. At the local Toddler Health Check Day, he read all the letters on the eye-chart while giggling--and the nurses said he would be way too young to do that! They were amazed--I give credit to Yolanda and Waldo and....

Disappointing abridged version
The publishers decided to make this board book tiny, only about 3x4".To fit the original into this small space, they compressed it a good bit.Nixie Knox is gone, as are many of the other fun Seuss-isms.Illustrations have been cut.Multiple pages from the original appear on a single tiny page together.In short, my child enjoys playing with the pages and I don't worry about them being torn, but I do so wish they'd published this in a normal size with all the original content.It's a great disappointment in this presentation.

A Memorable, Fun Alphabet Book
This is a memorable alphabet book, populated with real and imaginary animals, and written in Dr. Seuss's witty, rhythmic, rhyming style.Each letter comes with its own short vignette, allowing for a regular sense of accomplishment for beginning readers, who will also appreciate the clever alliteration for each letter, as in ""Many mumbling mice are making midnight music in the moonlight... mighty nice."It's certainly not great literature, but so fun to read that it can almost make the reader forget he is learning a new skill.

Love it!
I got this book because I had tried to teach my daughter the alphabet with games and incentives but she always seemed to lose interest, which made it feel like a chore for both of us. I then researched alphabet books and came across this one. I thought: if anyone could get her interested, it would HAVE to be Dr Seuss, and it did! She loves this book, specially, the silliness in it. That has been what keeps her interested in it. She even insists on being the one that says which letter I am reading about. Wonderful Buy! Great for read for children and adults!
"Six by Seuss" was a fantastic buy. I am a teacher, and the stories in this book present a fun way to teach life lessons. "The Lorax" opens up possible discussion about environmental responsibility. "Yertal the Turtle" shows an example of a bad leader, and how far is too far. "Hortan and the Egg" teaches faithfulness and sticking to your word. Those are just three of the eight stories (three of them are short stories), but each one shows important principles for children to learn while presented in a fun and creative way! It helps open up discussion, but can also simply be read aloud for rhyming meter and repetitive diction.

Wocket in my Pocket
My son is 14 months and loves this book. He loves Foot Book too. Some books just don't hold his interest long enough for me to finish reading them, but Wocket in my Pocket rhymes just seem to capture him.

My son absolutely LOVES this book! We have been reading it to him since birth and now he's 20 months old and he can't get enough of it! He loves the rhyming and the silly drawings! It's best to buy this as a board book, so it will take a lot to ruin it. So worth it!

Lost some wockets from it's pocket
Our family has loved the original version of this book, so we got the board book for the grandchildren. It was a disappointment. The changes they made to it do affect the 'flavor' of the story. If your child is used to the original version, they will be disappointed in this pared down book. If they haven't grown up with the original, this book will probably be fine for them.

Love Dr. Seuss
Great classic book, BUT beware. This is a MINI.The book is small. Not the typical size. I mean...SMALL! Very SMALL.

Good early reader
As is typical for Dr. Seuss, this book combines simple rhymes with nonsense.

There is great value for young readers in reading nonsense words. It teaches them to quickly and automatically sound out words they have never seen before. And there's not much plot. This, too, is an advantage - when you're struggling to read you're likely to lose track of what you've read by the end of the sentence. If you have to think back three pages for everything to make sense, well, that's frustrating!

disappointing
Disappointingly altered from the original and not nearly as good.If you aren't familiar with the original this book might be decent but knowing the original the changes made to the text and drawings just stand out like a sore thumb.Don't waist your money on this book - buy the original instead!

Passes the kid test...just
In the grand scheme of things this book is a classic, but not on a par with 'Green Eggs and Ham', 'Marvin K Mooney...', 'The Digging-est Dog' or many of the other offerings that Dr Seuss has. At least according to my 2 year old nightly book selection.

A favorite first book
At three months my son isn't old enough to be able to speak words yet, but he sure is trying! Too young to speak English perhaps, but not too young to hear a story and look at the pictures. I've been reading various books for him with high contrast illustrations and this is by far the favorite book for both myself (dad) and my son. My son giggles and laughs when I read this. As soon as he sees the first page ("you can think about red, you can think about pink ...") he gets excited. We have several board books of Seuss and some other authors and we enjoy all of them but Oh, The Thinks You Can Think! is simply a masterpiece. It's so much fun, the high contrast pictures really capture my son's attention and it's the perfect length for his young (short) attention span.

Great introduction to imagination (not thinking)
This is a wonderful book.It might not be the very best of Seuss, but it has all the trademark silliness and inventiveness, and very readable wordplay that is so attactive to so many kids.It's one of the simpler of the Seuss books, not as simple as "Green Eggs and Ham" but not as complex as "Horton Hears a Who."The theme of the book is imagination, and what you can think (dream) up.The littlest kids, who aren't yet engaging in pretend play and demonstrating their own rich imagination, might not get the message, but they'll still appreciate and learn from the language.

Oh, the thinks you can think, if only you try!
This is largely a nonsense book, of course - most of what Seuss gives as examples are his classic made-up creatures. Bloogs blowing by, and a Rink-Rinker-Fink.

But what a nonsense book! It's a lot of fun to read and talk about after. It may not be the most famous Seuss book, but it's certainly one of the best.

Let your imagination go free...
This was one of my son's first Seuss books, and is one of my favorites. In the classic Seuss funny, whacky style, with its catchy rhymes, it gets the reader thinking about how important imagination is. Somehow, I got to be an adult without ever reading this book.I think it would have helped me get through high school.Ha!Any way, find inner tranquility by imagining the worst that could happen!

Wow, I really do feel lucky!
Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? (Classic Seuss) is a book by Dr. Seuss about a kid who encounters a strange man who shows him how lucky he really is by singing a song about unlucky people, which may sound pessimistic, but is actually the opposite!

I think Dr. Seuss did a good job writing this book; some of the clever lines and silly illustrations literally made me laugh out loud!Its tongue-tickling rhymes also make it a fun book to read aloud, especially to children.I'd definitely call it a "feel-good" book because at the end, you really do appreciate how lucky you are!

We love this Book!
We bought this book when our son was 6 months old.We still read it even now that he is 2 1/2. The board book is small and great for travel to Grandma's house.

3 star because it was the book I needed and it came fast.
The book was not clean and the spine was damaged. Rice was up in the spine so when I held it open to read to the kids it all fell out on the floor. It appeared that the pages were torn from the spine than glue together because they didn't open properly. I needed the book for my lessons or it would have went back.

Great Board Book!
My daughter is 18mo. old and we have been reading this one for some time now.Yes, it is a board book version, but it is excellent for the age group being targeted. (babies and toddlers)She loves to make the different sounds and is fascinated when adults make the different sounds.This is a wonderful book.It is the perfect size and weight for little ones to be able to hold and look through.

Baby loves it
My three-month-old loves this book. She always gets bored halfway through Cat in the Hat, but this one holds her rapt attention. It perhaps requires a bit of a dramatic flair to get through, but that's probably true of all Dr Seuss's books.

Mr.Brown Is Fun!

Hop on Pop is the Top!
We read Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss together in our first grade class. While Mrs. Ashley read it to us we giggled because we thought it was so funny.Hannah loved the part where the main character sat on a cat.Jake thought the page where the characters jumped on Pop's belly was funny too.Rylei said the book had lots of rhyming words in it like, "Red, Ned, and Bed."We read a lot of Dr. Seuss books during our celebration of his birthday, and this was one of our favorites.*Check out the audio cassette/cd of this book too.I has great sound effects!

Not the right story line
Apparently through the years they have changed the story line, I remember Hop on Pop had a distinct cute little story line but this is not the same as I remember.

Short but entertaining!
The book is a little short (Not the full version) but I don't really mind.Since it is a "board book" it is made for infants/toddlers.My 1 year old loves this book - but if it was the full version it would actually be too long - I can only keep his attention on books for a couple minutes.

pieces don't fit back in box!
nice puzzle, but taking it back because pieces don't fit back in box. when it came they had 2 pieces connected together. that's the only way it'll fit back in the box. now what mom or dad wants to do that everytime they clean up a puzzle?!bigger box please

Bad Design
We have a lot of puzzles and this is the worst one we've ever received.Two problems: (1) the pieces are not cut in a unique shape, meaning that the same piece fits in multiple places on the puzzle itself which seems, well, not very well-made.My son does not read yet (3 yrs, 3 mo), but is able to do challenging puzzles based on color and shape of the pieces -- but not this one because so many pieces fit in the wrong place and the only way to really know that is to be able to read the words on the piece, which he cannot do; and (2) the only way to put the puzzle back in the storage box is to take it apart assembled with the correct two pieces attached to one another.If you separate all the pieces or (shockingly) your child does not complete the puzzle, you cannot put it back in its box one piece at a time.Why the box isn't larger I have NO idea.This is really a disappointing product after the many great Melissa & Doug puzzles we have enjoyed.

Good Book-Bought for Charity-Easy Purchase
I bought this book for a charity and it arrived in time to give it to the reader's group who needed new books for their summer reading. I'm sure the children loved it and I was able to give more books thanks to the low price of this book.

counting and colors
Well every child must learn counting and their colors.This book delivers just that, Dr Seuss had the right idea when this book was written, he combined rhyming with counting and incorporated colors, any child is sure to have fun and learn all at the same time with this clever little book.

I read it to my children when they were small, and i will read it to my grandchildren someday, its a classic that will go down in history.

Fun Book
This book has the right amount of text.It's for babies and young toddlers, who have short attention spans.
It's short enough for her to follow to the end. The plastic fish at top that she play with draws her to the book.

Disappointing for Adults but Fun for Kids
Our one-year-old daughter loves this book.She likes the little fish on top and likes the brightly-colored fish throughout the book.However, my husband and I are disappointed by the lack of creativity ("red fish, blue fish" next page: "black fish, blue fish") and the interrupted rhyming pattern toward the middle.Also, like others have said, the ending is very abrupt, and you're left wondering where the rest of the story is.

This book has everything you could want in one book for your toddler.It is colorful, whimisical and teaches counting. There are only a few words on each page, so it's great for younger readers and for those who need a short book for short attention spans.

Meh
This is one of Dr. Seuss's more moralizing books.

Here's the funny thing. I like Dr. Seuss. I agree with the points he makes in most of his preachier books - The Lorax, The Butter Battle Book, The Sneetches, Yertle the Turtle. The message in this book (seriously, cutting down beautiful woodland for junk is a foolish idea) is a good and timely one.

And yet... I don't like the book that much. I think it's a little heavy-handed, and while I understand *why* it is heavy-handed (and maybe it needs to be), it just plain irritates me.

I took off half a star for that. I do have a copy of it, but it's for private reading, not reading aloud.

The quintessential tree hugger fairy tale
What can you say about the best book ever written. Its profound and absurd, its wacky and wonderful not to mention Suess. It is not only a time;less classic but it was way before its time. I love this book and so will all you other tree huggers out there.

Great book!
This book has a great message to it. Any one can relate to the idea that overusing resources and polluting the land leave our children with nothing.This was my favorite book growing up, the movie is just as great.It bothers me so much that a book with such a great meaning behind it could be banned by some school districts.Are our kids not allowed to learn that natural resources can be limited or used up because our actions??

Serious message with Suessian style
This is by far my absolute favorite Dr. Suess book of all time. Socially concious Suess wrote this book as a reminder that we have a responsibility to our planet and its inhabitants no matter how much we THINK we need the latest fad. The Once-ler tells this story from the perspective of someone who knows the damage that can be done and regrets his part in it terribly. I use this book as a teaching tool in my gifted classes every year because I think it carries such an important and potentially tragic message while still leaving a ray of hope that these situations can be corrected. This story simplifies a serious social issue in a way that only Suess can...and in a way that makes it easy for children to see what adults don't always pick up on. To be honest, I'd be lying if I told you that I didn't get a little choked up and misty every time I read the line, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Noone can argue with the simple truth that Suess provided us with in this book and that's what makes it so much more valuable than just some old children's book. Personally, I feel like a lot of adults would benefit from a good read-through of this one.

My kids favorite book
My kids loved this book when they were younger.They asked me to read it so many times I memorized most of it.Apparently they did too because sometimes they would "read" it to me (from memory) before they knew how to read.

They loved the colorful pictures and opening the little flaps to read the text underneath.

It's a short book and very easy to read before bedtime.

We bought some of the other Dr Seuss books but none compared to Green Eggs and Ham.

The Best Revenge
Of course, I loved this book.As others have written, it's the perfect pre-reading book in that after a few repetitions, children learn to "read" the book by identifying the illustrations on each page etc. etc.

But.My reason for loving this book has a bit of evil to it.

My mother HATED this book.Detested the repetitive nature of the rhyming scheme, I guess.I found this out when I was 4 years old.So, whenever I was being punished and sent upstairs to my room, I would sit at the top of the stairs and read "Green Eggs and Ham" out loud.At the top of my lungs. Over and over again. Even in 1969, I was a miniature bad-ass.

Eventually my mother would end the "punishment" rather than sit through another dramatic reading.So if anyone tells you that a 4 year-old isn't capable of abstract reasoning and cost-benefit analysis... tell them from me that they're completely full of... green eggs & ham.

Green Eggs & Hams
Last night my five year old picked up Green Eggs and Hams and started reading the book without my help. At that moment, I realized the enormous value of Dr. Seuss, the repeating of phrases make readers feel confident about reading. Furthermore, as I read some of the pages, I easily got her to read more- she could not wait to join the fun. Most of the time when I read this book to my children, the story seemed long.Yet, on this night, the book went by in a flash; all good stories have to come to end.

I Wouldn't Eat Them Either!
What child finds it hard to identify with this character?! Sam tries to force this foreign-looking concoction over and over and is met with heels digging in deeper and deeper. The sing-song lyrics, the really neat places Sam suggests are finally no match for the character and low and behold HE LIKES GREEN EGGS AND HAM! This is a great early reader favorite with rhyming words that make it easy to decipher unknown vocabulary. Early readers enjoy the story line as well. I have read this book to so many children I have nearly memorized it. Like some preschool songs, many of the phrases in this book find a place in everyday events. "I do not like green eggs and ham. Read before giving it as a gift. Knew what to expect and it lived up to the expectations.

Great Book
I love this book. Its a great coffee table center piece and a wonderful conversation starter. Guest are always flipping through this book and commenting on what interesting art Dr. Suess created.

Surprise
The art in this book is much different from what I expected from Dr. Seuss, but not in a bad way. This book gives a new insight into his mind. I particularly enjoyed the sculptures because it really brought life to some of the characters that he has come up with. For all Seuss fans, I hightly recommend this one.

A nice surprise
It was a nice surprise to discover Dr. Seuss' "other" art, the art less known by the public.Theodor Seuss Geisel created wonderful paintings and sculptures, of which I was not aware prior to hearing about this book.Of course, his "other" art is just as imaginative and creative as the art seen in his children's books."The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss" is a beautiful addition to my living room coffee table.
