Excerpt: Geography in The Belgariad includes natural features, such as deserts and islands, as well as man-made features, such as roads and cities. Perivor is an island district located in the Dalasian Protectorates, lying in the Eastern Sea to the southwest of the eastern continent and east from the Turim Reef. Originally occupied by Dals, it was discovered by Mimbrates some centuries ago when their ship wrecked there. The Dals took on some of the feudal societal elements of Mimbrates, but serfdom was abolished, possibly because of their mixed heritage. Melcena may mean several things. It may refer to the whole of the Melcene Empire, the largest island in the Melcene Islands archipelago, or the capital city of the empire which is on that island. Melcena is on the east coast of the eastern continent. People from Melcena are known as Melcenes and are, in general, very urbane and cultured, and not given much to religious concerns. Melcena is one of the two principal players in a confederation that forms the current Mallorean Empire. One of Aldur's disciples, Belmakor, was a Melcene. He was described as an urban, civilised man, who argued extensively over philosophy with Beldin, before committing suicide with sorcery. Melcena is the only place Silk uses his title Prince Kheldar. Kell is a city located near or on the mountain of the same name in the fictional universe of David Eddings' Belgariad. This mountain is reputed to be the highest in its world. It lies in the province of Likandia, a protectorate of the Mallorean Empire located on the eastern continent. Kell is the holy and capital city ...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=977561 ... Read more

Chapters: List of Characters in the Elenium and the Tamuli, Races in the Belgariad and the Malloreon, List of the Belgariad and the Malloreon Characters, Deities in the Belgariad and the Malloreon, Belgarion, Polgara the Sorceress, Sparhawk, Dras Bull-Neck. Excerpt:Belgarion Belgarion (also called Garion ) is a fictional character and the chief protagonist in The Belgariad and The Malloreon , two fantasy epics written by David Eddings . Garion is the distant nephew of Polgara the Sorceress and the distant grandson of Belgarath the Sorcerer , though in truth his lineage is many times removed from them, through Belgarath's other daughter and Polgara's twin sister, Beldaran , the wife of Riva Iron-Grip, the first king (and founder) of Riva . Garion's father was Geran , a stonecutter in the Sendarian village of Annath and hidden heir to the Rivan throne. His mother, Ildera, was the daughter of a clan chief of Algaria . They are killed in an attempt to murder Garion when he is a child, and he is taken by his aunt to live on Faldor's farm. He lives there in ignorance for several years (it is never directly stated, but he is implied to be about 15 when he leaves.) He is watched all his life by Chamdar, the man who killed his parents, till he is old enough to be coming into his talents and be used as a pawn. However, after the "Orb of Aldur" is stolen, he is swept along as his aunt and grandfather go and search for it. Along the way he learns many things about himself and his family, including the fact he's an immortal sorcerer and is eventually revealed to the Heir to the Rivan Throne after which he begrudgingly becomes king. He also falls in love with Ce'Nedra, the Tolnedran princess, who reciprocates, and is, ironically, forced to marry him by treaty. He then discovers his destiny destroying... ... Read more

Read more

Chapters: The Belgariad, the Malloreon, the Dreamers, the Elenium, the Tamuli. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 47. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The Belgariad is a five-book fantasy epic written by David Eddings. The series tells the story of the recovery of the Orb of Aldur and coming of age of Garion, an orphaned farmboy. Garion is accompanied by his aunt Polgara and grandfather Belgarath as they try to fulfill an ancient prophecy that will decide the fate of the universe. Along the way, various "instruments", or helpers, of the prophecy join their quest to recover the orb, and Garion discovers his true identity and destiny. The title of the series references Garion's true name, "Belgarion." Volumes include: The title of each book combines a chess term with a fantasy term. The concept of a Game of Destiny is a significant motif in the story. The series has been reprinted as a two-volume set, titled The Belgariad Volume One, containing the first three books of the series, and The Belgariad Volume Two, which contains the last two books. This does not include the original map in Pawn of Prophecy by Chris Barbieri, but only Shelly Shapiro's map. Similarly, the maps at the beginning of the book's sections are replaced by Shapiro's. The Malloreon is a five-book sequel that continues the story started in the Belgariad. Belgarath the Sorcerer (1995) and Polgara the Sorceress (1997) are prequels that share the setting and most characters. The Rivan Codex (1998) features annotated background material. The book opens with a brief prologue concerning past events, beginning with the creation of the world by seven gods. One of the seven, Aldur, fashions an orb from stone and creates within it a living soul. This orb becomes known as the Orb of Aldur. One of the other gods, Torak, forcibly t...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=53205 ... Read more
