From the supplier: The sonnet, in contrast to the ballade, the villanelle, the sestina and the canzone of which there were no documented English publications during the seventeenth or eighteenth centuries, has always existed and was never out of fashion. Such continuous and vital existence of the sonnet has been speculated by W.H. Auden to be a manifestation of the proportions of some familiar natural objects. It was said that the sonnet as a literary art and 'courtly love' as an amatory art which were both popular during the feudal period, have a strange resemblance to each other.
