Tremendous
I saw this translation (directed by Wadsworth himself!) performed at the Shakespeare Theater in Washington DC, and immediately pre-ordered it upon returning home.

Most of the other translations of this play have been rather bulky and awkward, but Wadsworth captures Moliere's very, very clever and biting wit. I can't sing enough of it's praises. For me, it was just perfect; Don Juan is devastingly charming, right up until the very end. I can't wait until it arrives! ... Read more

C'est bon!
this book was exactly what I needed for my french class.All in French, and the supplemental materials were very helpful and easy to understand, as were the footnotes.

I studied this text when I was 18. Moliere is witty and humorous, which actually made reading this text a pleasure. He has lovely usage of his language.

I read this in my French class... the play is hilarious, well worth reading, and if you can't read French, you should read a translation or go see the play! It's funny, and although it is like many of Molière's other plays, it's a nice deviation from the normal play. ... Read more

Bermel IS Moliere
You can't go wrong with Albert Bermel when selecting an adaptation/translation of Moliere. This is strong, sturdy, PLAYABLE, American Moliere. Audiences will get every nuance, every inference, every joke, and will leave your theatre feeling they've experienced the "real deal."

There's nothing "fussy" or "precious" about Bermel's work (unlike the vaunted Richard Wilbur translations that leave me cold) and they're much more accessible to American ears and sensibilities than are Miles Malleson's fine British adaptations.

This "Miser" is a HOOT from the get-go.

PLEASE!
No self respecting actor would ever use this text!It assumes you know absolutely nothing.It attempts to put the text into a readable form, but I see nothing charming about translating Moliere into American slang or braindead sentences.Get a real translation and don't waste your time! ... Read more
