better late than never!!
All I can say is I wish I had seen this book a few teeth ago!
Fortunately there is still time to save the rest of my teeth with the clear advice of Dr Sydney. I take the book with me to my periodontist to make sure he is up to date!

Ignorance Is NOT Bliss!!
I thought I could ignore my teeth and the would NOT go away...I was wrong! After loosing two teeth, I went to my dentist and he said "you need a periodontist!". Fortunately, I read Dr. Sydney's book BEFORE I gotthere. What a relief to find out that even though I had lost two teeththere was still time and modern therapy to save the rest.My treatment isalmost completed now and the guide and my periodontist showed me that whileignorance is not bliss there was still time to get my gums healthy when youhave the true facts presented.I recommend this book to all the cowardsamong us.It's easy to read, comprehensive and according to myperiodontist accurately represents today's state of the field. I have giventhe book to a number of my friends who told me their gums were bleeding butthought that was normal.This book is an eye-opener for those who have hadtheir heads in the sand.Take it with you on your professional visits itreally helped me to understand all the treatments.

This was a wonderful trip down memory lane
I first read this book about 16 years ago (give or take) as a child and for some reason the storyline and certain sentences made a powerful impression on me such that I remember them (in some cases verbatim) all these years later. (I've read many Sheldon books and they are all pretty hard to put down).

There are only good points in this book (keep in mind that this book becomes less plausible as time goes by, because it was written in the days before the internet and biometric passports/ other information).

1. The writing is very light and this 430 some odd page book can be read over the course of two afternoons.

2. The action is great, intense and keeps the reader on the edge of his seat. The dialogue is minimal (compare that with Ayn Rand, who tends to go on so long that a reader could slip into a coma before getting to the end of a single scene).

3. The obstacles that kept the investigator from finding the witnesses easily were just enough to make a plot, be plausible and not overwhelm the reader with detail.

Secondhand editions of this book are so cheap that you can't go wrong picking up a copy.

Doomsday literally
While Sidney's book is easy to read, this book was just one kind of chase scene after another.I read when I exercise and kept thinking this book would get better.It never did.Please don't waste your time with this book.However, I want to read some of his other books as he writes fairly well.It was just the plot in this one was predictably boring.

Dear Mr.Sheldon plese dont venture in unknown places...
The other side of midnight etc was the area sheldon scored, however I dont know how he got the idea of venturing to write on such storyline which was foolishly conceived, but writing was not bad. I think that best is to avoid reaing this book or even writing longer reviews and should be forgotten like it is not there , only message is:

1. Mr.Sheldon pleae next time dont do this mistake of writing on such topic, leave it to Baldacchi etc
2. As a reader I will never open the sheldon book if it not a love stroy.

Whatever it is, it's not suspense.Or interesting, for that matter.
This book gets two stars only because I finished it, although nearly every time I finished a chapter I launched into a rant about its inane plot and horribly developed characters.

It's hard to know where to begin with what's wrong with this book.The characters are barely two-dimensional and the dialogue is ridiculous. The repetitive and elaborate descriptions of the murder of each and every witness are completely unneccesary, and the fact that Bellamy is a brilliant and experienced military man but has NO suspicious feelings about his mission or the motives of his superiors even after learning of the deaths of witnesses he spoke to defies the imagination.

The conversation between the aliens, and the way their motives bludgeon you in the face with every sentence, is wholly undeveloped.Their persistent and all-encompassing goodness renders them unbelievable as characters.

Without exaggeration, I can say that I was writing material of this caliber in the sixth grade.It boggles my mind that not only can silly books like this get published, but people call them good. 'The world's premier storyteller'? Please.

Doomsday Conspiracy

Sidney Sheldon often said he was a storyteller and The Doomsday Conspiracy proves him to be a good one.
Commander Robert Bellamy answers the phone in the middle of the night and is ordered to report to General Hilliard at National Security Agency Headquarters at Fort Meade, at 0600 hours.
Bellamy's first thought as he hung up the phone was what could NSA want with him?
He was assigned to ONI The Office of Naval Intelligence.
After hurrying through his morning routine Robert Bellamy got into his car and drove to NSA Headquarters. Showing his identification at every stop, he negotiated a labyrinth of guards and gates before arriving at the office of General Mark Hilliard, Deputy Director of the NSA. Amenities were short and terse. Orders were already in place for Commander Bellamy to be transferred on temporary assignment from Naval Intelligence to NSA.
The problem was an international incident that seemed to be spinning out of control. A NATO weather balloon had crashed in the Swiss Alps carrying sensitive and secrete military equipment. The incident had to be kept under wraps. There were witnesses to the accident and they all had to be warned not to discuss what they saw. Commander Bellamy was to track them down and identify the witnesses but not to engage them in conversation. Others would do the debriefing.
Bellamy was given an almost impossible task -- track down an unknown number of unknown witnesses from unknown countries. The possibility of a successful investigation was not good.
And to complicate matters further Bellamy was not to use any of his old contacts or informants. That part of the order was strange but not unprecedented.
He arrived in Switzerland with only one hint of a clue. Back at his NAS briefing he was told that the witnesses had been aboard a bus and were part of a tour group.
Bellamy located the bus tour company involved and the driver. For a large sum of money the driver accompanied Bellamy to the crash site. They found a deflated weather balloon, but the bus driver said that wasn't what they saw the day before. The driver said it was some kind of a space ship or flying saucer.
Bellamy immediately thought of Roswell, New Mexico and UFO's. What was the NSA hiding?
Sheldon proceeds to lead us on a page turning romp through the Swiss Alps and Europe with Bellamy chasing and identifying witnesses. He eventually realizes that he has become a target and that the UFO theory was only part of a diabolical conspiracy.
