Brilliant Historical Fiction Novel
The very personal account this interesting story provides into the indenture slave aspect of American History was far more educational and memorable than any textbook or school course can provide! It's well-presented and well-reasearched, with wonderful characterizations and brilliant details.

What can I add to everyone else's comments? Well, both Martha and Catherine had to be admired for their intense loyalty and srong work ethic. How they coped to overcome their harsh predicament helps the reader to appreciate all the freedoms and rights protected by our laws today, as well as modern conveniences we often take for granted. There were times I wanted to smack the selfishness and laziness out of Mary, and sometimes smack Catherine too, for enabling and for blaming herself for making Mary this way. I don't think I could have been as forgiving and understanding!

The workings of a tobacco plantation, the dangers of the environment, and the rewards of hard work, kindness and loyalty, are timeless lessons we all can gleen from this account of American History. As I was reading the story, I kept thinking that it would make a wonderful "Roots" or "Little House on the Prairie" style miniseries!

A visit to the early colonial period
When Catherine Quentin discovers that her younger sister has sold herself into indentured servitude, she rashly does the same in a desparate attempt to keep her promise to protect her sister.When they arrive in the colony of Mary's Land, their struggles continue.I enjoyed this wonderfully detailed glimpse into the everyday struggles of life during the early colonial period.Indentured servitude was a common, but often forgotten feature of life in that period, and was a significant force in shaping the society of the new communities in America.The love story is bittersweet and provides a cautionary tale about the effects of a lack of communication on a relationship.This is a pleasant, if light, read, flawed only in the jarring shifts in point-of-view between Daniel and Catherine, which are not clearly delineated and sometimes leave the reader a bit disoriented.Otherwise, this is a fine book, especially for someone interested in learning about life in the early years of the Maryland settlement.

Love most engaging
I thoroughly enjoyed "Love Most Foolish, Love Most Wise."The book presents a delightful blend of historical perspective, deatils of daily life in the young colony of Maryland, the social mores of the time and characters who grabbed my interest from the outset.In fact, they grabbed me so much that I found myself distracted by their wise and foolish actions a good part of the day.I particularly enjoyed the plant and herb lore presented in the novel."Love Most Foolish, Love Most Wise" is carefully researched, but the detail is the right dose to enhance rather than detract from the relationships and struggles of the characters.I have my fingers crossed for a sequel. ...
