Nicholas Sparks' stories just do it for me - they inspire and stir my feelings of love and romance everytime I read one of his dozen or so romance novels. The absolute best love story I have ever read. It's actually 3 love stories involving Noah and Allie, as teenagers, as young adults, and as seniors. As a senior myself and having been married since I was nineteen for 48 years to the most wonderful woman in the world, I was able to relate to the characters especially Noah. My father-in-law had alzheimers and my mother currently has alzheimers so I could easily relate to Allie. It inspired me to write my "notebook" about my wife and I's life experiences for our older years and future generations. ... Read more

Insightful autobiography
This is the first Nicholas Sparks book I've read.The fact is, he doesn't write the kind of books that I generally read.But my wife encouraged me to read this autobiographical book and I'm glad I did.But even though I may not be interested in his other books, I found this one fascinating.

The three weeks referred to by the title refer to a trip that he and his brother took around the world.But this is really only a backdrop upon which he tells the story of his life, from his earliest memories up until the trip itself.There is a lot of self reflection and self examination throughout the book, and I found his insights and conclusions very thought provoking and eye opening.

I think one of the reasons I enjoyed the book so much was because I relate to some of the struggles he's faced regarding the need to balance work, family, and personal time.It's interesting to see how his childhood has impacted his adulthood, and to watch as he figures it out.

I also really enjoyed his writing style.He is an excellent story teller with a great sense of pace and timing.I even enjoyed the descriptions of the sites he visited with his brother.Overall I'd recommend this book, even if you aren't a fan of his novels.

Three Weeks with My Brother

This book is for anyone who ever had a brother or sister or ever wanted one. It describes a trip around the world in three weeks to some of the oldest buildings on this planet. While it seems like they spent more time on the planes than actually in the countries, and they saw more museums than they could handle, they also stood in awe of the world's greatest man-made treasures. Interspersed with the stories of old buildings, there were stories of old relationships: between two brothers, to their parents, to their sister, to their spouses and to their own children. In short a great read.

Just don't read the front cover flap before reading the book.

I was looking for something to read in a bookstore and found this book marked down.I read "The Notebook;" enjoyed the movie first.
"Three Weeks With My Brother" is filled with love, wisdom, challenges and courage.

Get to know Nicholas Sparks!
If you want to get to know Nick you must read this book! I had no idea what to expect when I began reading it and I must say it took me by surprise completely. I have a greater understanding and respect - not that I ever thought I had a lack of it - for his life and abilities. This story will open your eyes to what made him who he is, inspired him, and what held him together in the rough times and keeps him grounded - so to speak. I feel like I need to re-read all of his books and I will get even more out of them than I did the first time around. Nick and Micah are brothers in every sense of the word and reading their story of their lives and their 3 week trip together was wonderful. I laughed (cracked up at times!), cried, and was in awe from cover to cover. Thank goodness for the Christmas Blizzard of 2006 as it gave me the day to myself to read the last 3/4 of this book!
