This small little book is a clever idea. The book is a wonderful photographic biography of the great Portuguese poet from the 20th century - Fernando Pessoa.Even if one does not know anything about Pessoa, thisbook provides a wonderful pictorial view of what his life was. Here, onewill find pictures on almost every aspect of the poet's life, from hisbirth certificate, to family pictures, including pictures of letters, histypewriter, and terrific pictures of Lisbon in the early part of the 20thcentury.

Lisboa, 1938. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Todos tenemos algo de Pereira
... Product Description
With text in Italian, the work of A Tabucchi, one of Italy's greatest contemporary writers, is imbued with the topic of individual identity. His texts query the self-perception, the relation with the Other and the relation with the historical and cultural world while expressing at all these levels an experience of dissolution: the self is fragmented and fragile; the Other is always absent and missed, and instead of being engaged in the present world, the subject lives in an intangible reality that does not make any sense. This profound existential anxiety and the weakening of identity are emphasised by the very way of narrating of Tabucchi, which is disconnected, enigmatic and full of silences. The book by Pia Schwarz Lausten describes various manifestations of the above-mentioned experience through the textual analysis of a series of figures and motives such as memory and absence, reversal and multiplicity, the said and the unsaid, history and commitment. Some of these motives involve on the one hand existential and philosophical aspects, and on the other esthetical and literary values. The analysis is based on two theoretical perspectives that in different ways describe an overcoming of a classical subjectivity in favour of an idea of which the Other or Alterity is an essential element to the definition of individual identity: M. Bachtin's concept of "dialogism" and G. Vattimo's "weak thought". The former serves to define the narrating subject in Tabucchi's texts characterised by different discourse levels and others' words. The latter concept describes the position of the subject of post-modernity determined by a weakening of the strong structures of modern thought. The book is written in Italian. ... Read more

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Antonio Tabucchi (born September 23, 1943) is an Italian writer and academic who teaches Portuguese language and literature at the University of Siena, Italy. Deeply in love with Portugal, he is an expert, critic and translator of the works of the writer Fernando Pessoa from whom he drew the conceptions of saudade, of fiction and of the heteronomouses. Tabucchi was first introduced to Pessoa's works in the 1960s when attending the Sorbonne. He was so charmed that, back in Italy, he attended a course of Portuguese language for a better comprehension of the poet. His books and essays have been translated in 18 countries, including Japan. Together with his wife, María José de Lancastre, he translated many works by Pessoa into Italian and has written a book of essays and a comedy about the writer. Tabucchi has been awarded the French prize "Médicis étranger" for Nocturne indien (Notturno indiano) and the premio Campiello, and the Aristeion Prize for Sostiene Pereira. Antonio Tabucchi was born in Pisa but grew up at his maternal grandparents' home in Vecchiano, a nearby village. During his years at university, he travelled widely around Europe on the trail of the authors he had encountered in his uncle's library. During one of these journeys, he found the poem "Tabacaria" (tobacco shop) in a bookstall near the Gare de Lyon in Paris, signed by Alvaro de Campos, one of the heteronyms (a kind of poetical personality) of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. It was in the French translation by Pierre Hourcade. From the pages of this libel he extracted the intuition of his interest in his future life for at least twenty years.
