4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderland through new eyes
I love this book.I've been reading Alice since I was a child, but when I found this book, my appreciation for Lewis Carroll's world went to a whole new level.
A collection of short stories based around characters and Wonderland, this book breaks the childhood fix and reveals the darker, more sinister side of what it's like down the rabbit hole. Some stories follow new characters who end up in Wonderland or interacting with familiar faces.Others are simply steeped in references, comparing people and everyday lives with the extraordinairy events that we know to have happened on Alice's travels.
This book is not for children. It's not for people who are happy and comfortable with Alice the way it is.This book is for people who, although appreciate the original text, have grown away from it and seek something new with familiar reference points. Some of the stories are not top quality, but don't let that put you off.More than half of them are, and are extremely thought provoking (did you know the White Rabbit turned out to be gay?).
It's a challenge to readers who know Alice well. And definitely worth the trip to Wonderland.

4-0 out of 5 stars Discover Wonderland All Over Again
Wonderland is a remarkable place. It has survived all attempts of analysts and adaptors to structure and sentimentalize it. It is wonder, it is madness, it is a comic nightmare which reflects desires and perceptions within us exaggerating them into caricatures of absurd proportions.

Inthis anthology, seventeen bold and practiced explorers of the literarygenre have dared to journey back into madness in quest of...what? Wonder?Truth? And the remarkable thing is that each one of them brings us backsomething different, because, of course, Wonderland is never the sametwice...

There are stories in this book that will arouse your interest. There are stories that will bore or annoy you with their approach. Andthere are some that will terrify you with a moment of insight that willtake you back to Wonderland all over again. I particularly enjoyed "ACommon Night" but that will vary...

Welcome to Wonderland. Don'tbother preparing yourself because here is where all structures break down.Prepare to lose yourself in a world of puns and nightmarish absurdity. Or,as I suppose the Mad Hatter would put it...

"Abandon all mope, yewho enter here!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantasy at it's best - we all need some cheese now and then
I'm not going to lie... this book has a fair amount of fluff and cheese involved. However, Rose of the Prophet is also one of the best Fantasy books ever. This easily tops all of the Dragonlance material in my opinion... hell, I even recommended this series to my Mom (who doesn't normally read this type of stuff) and she absolutely loved it, and finished all three books in around 2 days or so.

Don't get me wrong, there is most definitely a good amount of substance and rawness under the cheese... and there are a good amount of dark scenarios at work here.... which blends with the almost soap-opera type character interactions into a surprisingly irresistable mix.

And just because I really really mean it:please try reading this book to the 'Loop Bites Dog' CD by Loop Guru.I can't recommend their music enough for Sci-Fi / Fantasy reads... it literally transforms the book into something in between novel and movie.Your imagination will love you for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
The Rose of the Prophet.... ahh, now this reminded me so much of my own viewpoint of life. There is a sayne among the desert people this book revolves upon.

one asks the other 'what is the reward for liveing well?'

'death' he replies

'and the punishment for living badly?'

'death' he replies again

The story starts out with the world as a jewel with many different faccets. In the time before, the jewel reflected evenly the different facets of the truth - as time wore on however the Gods created out of each facet of the truth only focus on their particular aspect, narrowing their minds.

This story includes the battles of the heavens, and the facets of truth among the gods schemeing and imortals granted residence on the mortal plane.

A more touching story however is a desert tribe of people... two warring factions are suddenly thrown together in a marriage ordered by their god.

Hatred born of generations old grudges, brought to flower by shame and self doubt. These two young people find their way in war with the help of a strange forginer who fights his own war of shame benieth a golden crown of red hair.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent read!
Absolutly fantastic series! I loved it. While not as good as some of the author's best works, such as Dragon's of Summer Flame, the series was brilliant.

I most assuredly recommend all fantasy lovers to buy a copy right now a read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorites
The Rose of the Prophet trilogy is one of my all time favorites. No matter how many times I read these books, I find then exciting, creative, and just plain different.Weis and Hickman put a very interesting twist onfantasy literature in this quality series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reading
