Guitar Review: Reviews The album's closer, axel borupjorgensen's Praembula, is the least Danish sounding piece on the CD. The language of Praembula http://www.guitarreview.com/reviews.html
Extractions: Pieced together from fragments taken from works of all genres - from folk to jazz to popular song - Poul Ruder's "Jargon" presents an interesting quandary - the listener must reconcile his preconceptions of the material with Ruder's own vision. While certain quotes are recognizable, the piece has a certain inner rhythm that prevents these snippets from jumping out or sounding arbitrary. "Jargon" toys with ones expectations without ever falling into novelty and cannot be written off as a work of pure pastiche. Written in 1973 and dedicated to Moldrup, it is a credit to composer and performer alike that the piece can remain challenging rather than exhausting for over thirteen minutes. The album's closer, Axel Borup-Jorgensen's "Praembula," is the least "Danish sounding" piece on the CD. The language of "Praembula" is reminiscent of pure Darmstadt serialism, something that the solo guitar repertoire seems to contain a disproportionately small amount of. Fractured and expressive, Moldrup's highly rhythmic performance leaves nothing to be desired. reviewed by Stephen Griesgraber There was a time when going to see a famous instrumentalist meant that the listener would experience not only the performer's virtuosity and interpretive skill, but also his most recent creative output. An evening of music performed by Sor or Giuliani was also an evening of music composed by that respective composer. Not much more than a century ago, this was the norm; today it is a rarity at best. There are however, a small number of individuals in the guitar world who are keeping the composer/performer tradition alive. Dusan Bogdanovic, Roland Dyens, and Andrew York are perhaps the most visible of the current generation. But as three recordings to arrive at the Guitar Review recently seem to suggest, there are a host of others who are bringing their music to the world in this very same way.
