Extractions: A Soviet composer of Armenian origin, Khachaturian first studied at the Moscow Conservatoire with teachers such as Shebalin and Miaskovsky He later assumed an important place in the Union of Soviet Composers and implemented one aspect of official cultural policy in his use of regional Armenian subjects. Although he did not turn to composition until late, he was a prolific writer and his vigorous music reflects the influence of the folk songs he heard as a child. Aram Il'yich Khachaturian Works The 1942 ballet "Gayne" contains the most popular of all Khachaturian's works, the Sabre Dance. The ballet Spartacus of 1954 contains a well known Adagio of Spartacus and Phrygia; there are concert suites from both ballets. MIDI FILE - "Masquerade" (2'31'') Khachaturian's Violin Concerto, written in 1940, is a characteristic work and has been transcribed for solo flute by the French flautist Jean-Pierre Rampal. The composer wrote a Piano Concerto in 1936 and ten years later an effective Cello Concerto.

Es el compositor modelo del realismo socialista en música. Sus estudios musicales en la infancia y juventud son poco sistemáticos, no obstante, en 1925 estudia violonchelo y composición en la Escuela de Música de Gnesin de la capital rusa. En 1929 ingresa en el Conservatorio de Moscú, donde estudiará composición con Miaskovsky, Gliere y Vasilenko. Antes de graduarse en el Conservatorio en 1934 compone su Suite de danzas para orquesta (inédita). En 1939 es nombrado vicepresidente del comité organizador de la Unión de Compositores Soviéticos. MIDI FILE - "Masquerade" (2'31'') En 1948 sufre la censura del aparato político soviético, y para evitar conflictos se refugia en la composición de música cinematográfica. En 1950 comienza su carrera de director de orquesta y a partir de este momento puede presentar sus propias obras. Desde 1951 enseña en la Academia Gnesis y en el Conservatorio de Moscú. Muere en Moscú el 1 de mayo de 1978.
