Chapters: I Puritani, I Capuleti E I Montecchi, La Straniera, Beatrice Di Tenda, La Sonnambula, Norma, Il Pirata, Adelson E Salvini, Zaira, Bianca E Fernando. Excerpt:Vincenzo Bellini item Adelson e Salvini ( Adelson and Salvini ) is a three act opera semiseria composed by Vincenzo Bellini and first performed at the Teatro del Conservatorio di San Sebastiano in Naples on February 12, 1825. The libretto was by Andrea Leone Tottola . Background Bellini's first opera was written as his final project at the Naples San Sebastiano Conservatory, when the composer was 23 years old. It was the custom at the Conservatory to introduce promising students to the public with a dramatic work. Bellini styled his project an opera semiseria . It was presented at the Conservatory's theater. Adelson e Salvini is based on the 1772 novel Épreuves du Sentiment by François-Thomas-Marie de Baculard d'Arnaud , and the opera draws on a previously performed play by Prospère Delamare. Bellini's score does not bring out much of the humor of the piece. Nevertheless, the work was so popular among the Conservatory's student audience that it was performed every Sunday for a year. It was successful enough to generate a commission from the royal court, and it captured the interest of the impresario Domenico Barbaja of the San Carlo Opera, who launched Bellini's career, commissioning him to write his next work, Bianca e Gernando . Bellini greatly revised the opera for another production in 1829, and later revised it further. Although much influenced by the music of Gioacchino Rossini , this early piece exhibits some of the characteristic tuneful style and delicate vocal line that Bellini achieved in his mature works. Bellini used some of the music from the opera in later works. Domenico De Meo further revised and edited th... ... Read more

Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Vincenzo Bellini," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Vincenzo Bellini in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Vincenzo Bellini when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Vincenzo Bellini, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Vincenzo Salvatore Carmelo Francesco Bellini (3 November 1801 - 23 September 1835) was an Italian opera composer. His most famous works are La sonnambula (1831), Norma (1831) and I puritani (1835). Known for his long flowing melodic lines for which he was named "the Swan of Catania", Bellini was the quintessential composer of Bel canto opera. Born in Catania, Sicily, Bellini was a child prodigy from a highly musical family and legend has it he could sing an aria of Valentino Fioravanti at eighteen months. He began studying music theory at two, the piano at three, and by the age of five could apparently play well. Bellini's first five pieces were composed when he was just six years old. Regardless of the veracity of these claims, it is certain that Bellini grew up in a musical household and that a career as a musician was never in doubt. Having learned from his grandfather, Bellini left provincial Catania in June 1819 to study at the conservatory in Naples, with a stipend from the municipal government of Catania. By 1822 he was in the class of the director Nicolò Zingarelli, studying the masters of the Neapolitan school and the orchestral works of Haydn and Mozart. It was the custom at the Conservatory to introduce a promising student to the public with a dramatic work: the result was Bellini's first opera Adelson e Salvini an opera semiseria that was presented at the Conservatory's theatre. Bellini's next opera, Bianca e Gernando, met with some success at the Teatro San Carlo, leading to a commission from the impresario Barbaia for an opera at La Scala. Il pirata was a resounding immediate success and began Bellini's faithful and fruitful collaboration with the librettist and poet Felice Romani, and cemented his friendship with his favored tenor Giovanni Battista Rubini, who had sung in Bianca e Gernando. Bellini's gravestone at the Père Lachaise Cemetery in ParisBellini spent the next...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ... Read more

Aus Wikipedia. Nicht dargestellt. Auszug: Alessandro Scarlatti (2 May 1660 - 24 October 1725) was an Italian Baroque composer especially famous for his operas and chamber cantatas. He is considered the founder of the Neapolitan school of opera. He was the father of two other composers, Domenico Scarlatti and Pietro Filippo Scarlatti. Scarlatti was born in Palermo, then part of the Kingdom of Sicily. He is generally said to have been a pupil of Giacomo Carissimi in Rome, and some theorize that he had some connection with northern Italy because his early works seem to show the influence of Stradella and Legrenzi. The production at Rome of his opera Gli Equivoci nell sembiante (1679) gained him the support of Queen Christina of Sweden (who at the time was living in Rome), and he became her Maestro di Cappella. In February 1684 he became Maestro di Cappella to the viceroy of Naples, perhaps through the influence of his sister, an opera singer, who might have been the mistress of an influential Neapolitan noble. Here he produced a long series of operas, remarkable chiefly for their fluency and expressiveness, as well as other music for state occasions. In 1702 Scarlatti left Naples and did not return until the Spanish domination had been superseded by that of the Austrians. In the interval he enjoyed the pa...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ...
