4-0 out of 5 stars Highly readable anthology of Confederate women.
Valor and Lace, edited by Mauriel Phillips Joslyn, is an anthology of eleven short histories of women that lived during the War Between the States and contributed to the side of the South during that conflict. Each of the anthologies is readable and most are well researched. As withany book containing material from several authors, there are some chaptersthat are better researched and written than others. However, in generalthe book is concise and presents various aspects of the Southern woman'slife during the War.The title and subtitle (The Roles of ConfederateWomen 1861-1865) are somewhat misleading. The book does not present acomprehensive history of women in general during the war but ratherpresents the reader with eleven specific cases of extraordinary women whofelt the need to commit themselves to the cause for which they believed, beit the Southern cause for independence or the moral cause to care for thewounded, regardless of their political affiliation. While it would beerroneous for the reader to assume this is a true picture of every Southernwoman, it is an appropriate portrayal of certain aspects of life both athome and on or near the battlefield and the role that some women playedduring the Civil War.This reveiwer recommends the book to any studentof the War as well as to those readers interested in the social roles ofwomen during that period of American history. ... Product Description
This is an exploration of London and gothic representation in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries through a variety of media. London has taken a central role in urban Gothic, from key canonic texts like "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde", "The Picture of Dorian Gray" and "Dracula" through modern Gothic texts to the 'tourist gothic' of rebranded gastropubs and ghost tours. As a specific category, London Gothic is becoming as important for understanding ourselves today as it has been for thinking about the cultural productions of the late-nineteenth century. This is the first book to focus on Gothic representations of London, offering a range of essays from established and new scholars reading London Gothic as it is manifested in a variety of media and through varied critical approaches. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
Starts off at the very beginning, and leads the reader to learn html with lots of pictures and examples. This book is very organized.

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible as an HTML companion book
Although this book covers pretty much all the elements of HTML, I discovered a significant number of incomplete syntax specifications. I was especially disappointed in its coverage of forms. The chapter just breezedthrough all the different types of form elements and didn't explain howdata from these elements are handled when submitting a form. Because ofthe inadequacy of this book, I often find myself having to surf on the Netto find answers to my HTML questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Reference Guide
QUE's "Unsing HTML 4" was and continues to be a great reference quide. It also has easy indexing for new HTML authors. This book is definitely the best choice for either experienced authors or beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST HTML book I have read yet !
Before buying this book, I was wondering what could have been packed in it to make it around 600 pages more than the average HTML books I have read so far.....When I got it in my hands and started perusing its pages, I got thefeeling that I have got back every penny spent on it ! The best book onHTML I have come across and it should be your HTML's reference book fromnow on.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book should be required text for all future HTML'ers
I bought this book before I had a computer in my home. However, by the time I had finished the second chapter, I was already composing web pages in my head. Lee Anne does an excellent job of introducing the ins and outsof correct HTML coding. Not only does she bring you up to par with todayscoding standards but, she uses keen far-sight to prepare you for thenuances and ever evolving standards of the web. If you are searching for astraight-as-an-arrow approach to web page building, then I highly recommendthis book. ... Read more

Ten years after Melanie Anne Philips concluded her epic "Transition Trilogy" she was compelled to continue her autobiographical account of her experiences as a transgendered woman.

In this volume (fourth in the series), the shoe is on the other foot when Melanie's life partner, also a transgendered woman, decides to undergo radical facial feminization surgery in which the bones of her face are removed, reshaped and replaced in order to fully transform her face permanently from male to female structure.
