Bug Park
When you're a teenager, even a teenager with a rich, indulgent parent, you don't have a lot of power. But when things get very small, the rules change. Physics changes. What everybody knows, ain't so; the weak are mighty, and the powerful can be brought down by those they thought they'd already trodden underfoot. And even those who think they own the world can learn the hard way that innocence is not another word for "stupid". Welcome to Bug Park. Order the mass market paperback edition of Bug Park Today!

This is the first work of James Hogan that I have read, and I must say that I'm very glad that I did. The plot centers around a Russin space station, built early in the next century, in a world where the Cold War is still fought. Valentina Tereshkova , is man's first forray into space. Built by the Russians it was heralded as a significant step forward for Communist Planning and a milestone in human history. But Western intelligence suggests otherwise, that the "colony" is masking a secret orbital weapons platform ready to rain havoc on the defense systems of the West. Two operatives are sent to the station: Lewis Earnshaw, a hard nosed agent with many years of experience in serving his country; and Dr. Paula Bryce, a naval communications officer. They are given the task of retrieving a set of stolen plans that would confirm the West's suspicions. Not all goes to plan, and when they are caught red handed and confined to the stations prison facility at Zarmok, they must enlist the aid of other captives to fulfill their mission. The more they uncover, the less they know, as their findings begin to confirm that the Russians - are telling the truth!. Could the West have got it wrong? Is Tereshkova just a colony after all?

James P. Hogan Fanspace
FYI, I have created a website in appreciation of science-fiction author James P. Hogan, winner of the Libertarian Futurist Society's Prometheus Award in 1983 for "Voyage from Yesteryear" and again in 1993 for "The Multiplex Man". Mr. Hogan has generously volunteered to provide his input to the site, which so far consists of his detailed book proposal for "Truth Under Tyranny", an explosive volume that critiques the state of modern science (with, shall we say, emphasis on the word State!). The URL is: http://www.monadnock.net/fanspaces/hogan/ This FanSpace is part of the ongoing site-building efforts at Monadnock Online, a virtual salon dedicated to joy and reason and meaning in the arts, philosophy, and life. For more information, visit the home page at http://www.monadnock.net/

Nie mo¿na rz±dziæ lud¼mi wychowanymi w niewolnictwie inaczej, ni¿ siê rz±dzi niewolnikami. - William Shakespear Najazd z przesz³o¶ci Voyage from Yesteryear Przez trzy wieki z uporem starali¶my siê pogodziæ stare idee podzia³u bogactw z nowym sposobem dzia³ania wysoko rozwiniêtej technologii. Bogactwo zawsze by³o czym¶, o co trzeba wspó³zawodniczyæ i walczyæ.
