The symptom is purely what lalangue conditions, but, in a certain fashion, Joyce carries it to the power of language, without forasmuch any of it being analyzable; it is what strikes, and literally dumbfounds ( interdit ) . . . But we can call it something else, and it is here that I today crown what it is with the Name-of-the-Father at the point ( degré ) where Joyce testifies to itwith what it is appropriate to call the sinthome . Send Roger Cummiskey a message!

I specialize in watercolour paintings, which take their themes and titles from the wanderings and writings of James Joyce. This has come from a lifelong interest in attempting to interpret in paintings what Joyce so eloquently wrote about our native city, Dublin. I call my collection "A Stroll Thro’ Ulysses."

Toru Takemitsu (1930-1996)
Toru Takemitsu was one of Japan's greatest composers and a seminal figure in modern composition. Championed by Igor Stravinsky and central to the development of East/West music, he forged a style all his own; a dark and mysterious blend of Eastern and Western music and instrumentation, influenced by the likes of Debussy, Messiaen, serialism, and Japanese traditional music. Winner of numerous major awards and commissions, Takemitsu was also well known in Japan as a film composer, and has scored nearly a hundred films, including works by Akira Kurosawa, Hiroshi Teshigahara and Shohei Imamura. Takemitsu is today the inspiration for a new generation of composers such as Tan Dun, artists searching for a fresh language that utilizes both Western ritual and Eastern tradition.

James Joyce
Irish Novelist Writing in English is the most ingenious torture
ever devised for sins committed in previous lives.
James Joyce
was born on February 2, 1882 in Dublin, Ireland. His subtle yet frank portrayal of human nature, coupled with his mastery of language made him one of the most influential novelists of the 20th century. Joyce is best known for his experimental use of language and his exploration of new literary methods. His use of the literary technique, "stream-of-consciousness" reveals the flow of impressions, half thoughts, associations, hesitations, impulses, as well as the rational thoughts of his characters. The main strength of his masterpiece novel, "Ulysses" (1922) lies in the depth of character portrayed using this technique. Joyce's other major works include "Dubliners," a collection of short stories that portray his native city, a semi-autobiographical novel called "A Portrait of the Artist As a Young Man" (1916), and "Finnegans Wake" (1939), an experimental novel that first appeared in the form of extracts from 1928 to 1937 as "Work in Progress." Joyce faced daunting financial and health problems while at work on "Ulysses." Between 1917 and 1930 he endured a series of 25 operations for eye diseases. Despite these problems he continued to work. He was helped by a large grant from Edith Rockefeller McCormick, and by a series of grants from Harriet Shaw Weaver, which by 1930 had amounted to more than £23,000. The generosity of these patrons resulted from their admiration of his work, and their sympathy with his difficulties.

73. La Pensée Politique De James Joyce
Livre consacre   james joyce. R©sum© en ligne, ressources bibliographiques et courte biographie.
http://perso.club-internet.fr/mehenry/joyce/memoire.htm

James Joyce
Search all of James Joyce Irish novelist, noted for his experimental use of language in such works as ULYSSES (1922) and FINNEGANS WAKE (1939). During his career Joyce suffered from rejections from publishers, suppression by censors, and attacks by critics, and misunderstanding by readers. Joyce's technical innovations in the art of the novel include an extensive use of interior monologue; he used a complex network of symbolic parallels drawn from the mythology, history, and literature, and created a unique language of invented words, puns, and allusions. From 1902 Joyce led a nomadic life, which perhaps reflected in his interest in the character of Odysseus. Although he spent long times in Paris, Trieste, Rome, and Zurich, with only occasional brief visit to Ireland, his native country remained basic to all his writings.
James Joyce was born in Dublin as the son of John Stanislaus Joyce, impoverished gentleman, who had failed in a distillery business and tried all kinds of professions, including politics and tax collecting. Joyce's mother, Mary Jane Murray, was ten years younger than her husband. She was an accomplished pianist, whose life was dominated by the Roman Catholic Church and her husband. In spite of the poverty, the family struggled to maintain solid middle-class facade.

75. Work In Progress 2
Critical essay examining Sterne's influence on james joyce, with specific reference to Finnegans Wake.
http://mason.gmu.edu/~lhill2/sterne.htm
Tellmetale of Sterne or Swift:
Shem as Marginalized Sentimenal Traveler
in Finnegans Wake I.vii by Francis X. Connor
Laurence Sterne haunts the text of Finnegans Wake as M'Intosh haunts Bloom: his presence is generally noted, but no one can entirely say what to make of him. Most basic guides to Joyce will list his fellow Irishman as a precursor, but, while scholars have written books on Rabelais and Shakespeare in FW, and others have mapped out the Wakean appearances of figures such as Jonathan Swift and Lewis Carroll through various articles, very little has been done to elucidate the tangible, but elusive, role of Sterne. Even the basic premise that Sterne figures at all in Joyce's writing has elicited some debate. In an early review of Ulysses, Cecil Maitland proffers that A superficial critic might assert that Joyce owes something of the elasticity of his prose to Sterne. Personally I should not be surprised if he had never read Tristram Shandy. The resemblance between the two writers is more apparent than real, for while Sterne's style is an affectation . . . Mr. Joyce elicits the subtlest process of the mind . . .1 Of course, this is the rumination of a somewhat overzealous critic, but, as any Joyce scholar knows, Joyce did not necessarily read all the authors to whom he alludes. The mention of an author in Joyce means little without context. Indeed, Lodwick Hartley, looking into the matter more closely, argues that "Sterne's influence on Joyce was not more than superficial."2 His article "'Swiftly-Sterneward': The Question of Sterne's Influence on Joyce" remains the only extended analysis of Sterne's influence on Joyce, and he concludes that Sterne plays "no significant role" in FW or elsewhere (47). I suspect his article impacted Joyce scholars, as the past thirty years have seen little work done on the two authors, and because Joycean critics have paid so little attention to Sterne, the question of his influence remains unsettled.3

James Joyce (1882 - 1941) James Joyce / Poema XIV
Mi paloma, mi hermosa.
¡ Ven, ven!
Yace de noche el rocío
Sobre mis ojos y labios.
Tejen los perfumados vientos
Una música de suspiros:
¡Ven, ven,
