Return to the Front Page March 13, 1998 CU-Boulder professors take to the road Joe Rosse, associate professor of management, and Bob Levin, director of the Center for Human Function and Work, traveled to Costa Rica and Squaw Valley, Calif., respectively, this week to speak on integrating hiring and selection with business strategy and performance. Rosse and Levin are co-authors of "High-Impact Hiring: A Comprehensive Guide to Performance-Based Hiring" and used the approaches described in their book at the seminars. Rosse is a senior associate for the Center for Human Function and Work and a columnist for the Boulder County Business Report. He was invited to speak at the seminar by INCAE, Latin America's leading business school and executive management program. "Joe's invitation to work with Central American business leaders on critical hiring issues is just one example of the direct practical impact that CU-Boulder's business faculty, and their research, are having both internationally and here in Colorado," said Levin. Levin spoke to key ski industry executives and managers at the National Ski Areas Winter Conference.

O HIO R EVIEW B OOKS Essay On Air
Reg Saner
Reg Saner's first book, Climbing Into the Roots, won the Walt Whitman Award (1976). His second book, So This Is the Map, was selected by Derek Walcott as the winner of the National Poetry Series Open Competition (1981). Essay On Air is an important new book by a poet Peter Stitt has called one of our most important originals. Saner's is not an easy optimism, it's a courage that comes from facing up to grief and loss, from stepping out of the self and acknowledging the othernessof the world. Susan Wood, Houston Chronicle The Bloomsbury Review
    Anasazi, the First Coloradans
They knew next to nothing about the sky
while counting on it for everything. What a wonderful time that must have been-
to see the sun down, not a twilight clue
where it goes as it vanishes
or why. And then they cleared out,
leaving behind lots of strange names
    and all this furniture.

Spent motion he refuses to take for an answer, or any motion ending in heaviness. WILLIAM HEYEN JUDGMENT: BHAGAVAD GITA
PREFACE TRANSCENDENTAL In 1855 Walt Whitman rhapsodized that the great poet " is judgment. He judges not as the judge judges, but as the sun falling around a helpless thing." Today, the sun is falling. Today Custer attacks an Indian village on the Washita River long after. "From a sufficient perspective," said Ralph Waldo Emerson, "everything pleases," falls around the 7 th as around a helpless thing. We are far away, we are so far away we cannot smell burning hair clotted with blood. This moon All becomes known, all comes to eventual judgment, does it, as aftersoul envelops all helpless things.
