To make your school visit enjoyable and effective in promoting reading, a school must know what you need, offer, and expect. With so many details involved, you can simplify matters by creating a standard info sheet providing all important information. Here's what the sheet should include:
Contact info: Your name, address, phone, email, Web page, etc. General: Can the school make arrangements with you directly, or should it first contact your publisher? Do you need written confirmation of the date and fee, or perhaps a signed contract? Specify anything else you'll need in advance schedule, school contact info, directions. Do you require more than one day of visits for a long-distance engagement? Recommendation: In most cases, it's simplest to allow schools to deal with you directly. Written confirmation is good, but you probably don't need a signed contract especially if you require the school to directly purchase any tickets.

My thanks to Aaron for letting me host this on The Purple Crayon MYTH: Children's books are easier to write than adult books. TRUTH: Good writing is difficult no matter what the reader's age and children deserve the best. MYTH: Picture books are the easiest children's books to write. TRUTH: Picture books may be the hardest because they demand conciseness, simplicity, and a visual sense. Also, the competition is greater, because more people try them. MYTH: A children's book writer must first write for magazines. TRUTH: Writing for magazines can teach you a lot, but it is different in some ways from book writing. And though magazine credits may catch a book editor's eye, they won't sell your manuscript. If books are your goal, you might do well to jump right in. MYTH: Children's stories should teach lessons.

GRADE LEVEL: K-12 CONTENT: This literature site is targeted at people interested in the art of storytelling. Aaron Shepard, a well-known children's author, offers online versions of his picture books adapted for storytelling. He also has an informative section for storytellers, including tips, articles, and a bibliography of story collections. AESTHETICS: Simple layout with few graphics and easy-to-read text. Each story has downloadable posters with illustrations from the original picture books ORGANIZATION: The individual pages have navigational bars at the top and bottom. REVIEW: Aaron Shepard's Storytelling Page is a great place to get started as a teller of tales. Many of Mr. Shepard's stories are retellings of folktales from around the world. He also includes several original stories with American folk themes. The stories are well suited to oral renditions. The Tell A Story! guide is an excellent resource with helpful advice about storytelling and covers topics such as choosing the right story and creating dramatic effect within your story. Nov. 4 Aaron McKinney was given two life sentences today for the killing of gay college student Matthew Shepard, in a deal approved by the victims parents. A 12-person jury in Laramie, Wyo., convicted McKinney of felony murder Wednesday. The jurors were to begin hearing testimony in the sentencing phase today, but instead Judge Barton Voight announced that, under an arrangement with prosecutors, McKinney will serve two consecutive life terms in prison.
McKinney had faced the possibility of being sentenced to death by lethal injection. The deal was reached after Shepards parents agreed to accept two life terms in prison for their sons killer. Im Truly Sorry 
I really dont know what to say other than that Im truly sorry to the entire Shepard family, McKinney told the court. Never will a day go by I wont be ashamed for what I have done.
