Nada equivalente a las extraordinarias traducciones de Borges por Alastair Reid o de Octavio Paz por Eliot Weinberger se ha producido hasta la fecha. El papel que la figura de Jesús ha cumplido en la construcción del mito personal de Vallejo (esencial para todo trazado de la biografía), es constantemente soslayado, o minimizado. por la Profesora Franco. Sin embargo, desde el título de su último libro de poemas, España, aparta de mí este cáliz, Vallejo está proclamando esa constante de su mitología personal. Las relaciones literarias de Vallejo con algunos de sus contemporáneos más ilustres son también sometidas a un proceso que convendría calificar de educativo. Si sólo existiese este libro para documentar la trayectoria literaria de Vallejo podría creerse que el encuentro ocasional con Huidobro, en la época de la guerra civil española, fue más importante para él que la amistad conflictiva y apasionada que lo unió y lo separó, en definitiva, con Pablo Neruda. Pero en la jibarización de la Profesora Franco, en tanto que la relación con Huidobro es subrayada en el texto (p. 139). la amistad/enemistad con Neruda es apenas insinuada en una nota al final del libro (p. 274). Tales elecciones determinan un retrato trivial del hombre Vallejo y contribuyen a invalidar este estudio desde ese punto de vista.

Biografía de César Vallejo WEBMASTER: Justo S. Alarcón CÉSAR VALLEJO (Facultad de Humanidades, Univ. De Chile) Al año siguiente parte para París, donde permanecerá (con algunos viajes a la Unión Soviética, España y otros países europeos) hasta el fin de sus días. Los años parisinos fueron de extrema pobreza y de intenso sufrimiento físico y moral. Participa con amigos como Huidobro, Gerardo Diego, Juan Larrea y Juan Gris en actividades de sesgo vanguardista, pero pronto abjura de su propio Trilce y hacia 1927 aparece firmemente comprometido con el marxismo y su activismo intelectual y político. Escribe artículos para periódicos y revistas, piezas teatrales, relatos y ensayos de intención propagandística, como Rusia en 1931. Reflexiones al pie del Kremlin (1931). Inscrito en el Partido Comunista de España (1931) y nombrado corresponsal, sigue de cerca las acciones de la Guerra Civil y escribe su poema más político: España, aparta de mí este cáliz, que aparece en 1939 impreso por soldados del ejército republicano. Toda la obra poética escrita en París, y que Vallejo publicó parcamente en diversas revistas, aparecería póstumamente en esa ciudad con el título Poemas humanos (1939). En esta producción es visible su esfuerzo por superar el vacío y el nihilismo de Trilce y por incorporar elementos históricos y de la realidad concreta (peruana, europea, universal) con los que pretende manifestar una apasionada fe en la lucha de los hombres por la justicia y la solidaridad social.

Leanne Kiley Professor Darling Introduction to Literature 17 October 1996 "Our Daily Bread" by Cesar Vallejo (Translated by James Wright) I was in a turmoil when I read and reread "Our Daily Bread." This poem has a lot of emotions involved in it. Feelings of hunger, sadness, anger, guilt, and warmth are felt through out the poem. In the first stanza, the speaker sets the scene with "Damp earth of the cemetery," "City of winter," "mordant crusade." Especially when the speaker speaks of "the fragrance of the precious blood," we feel coldness, loneliness and death. All through this poem, the speaker uses symbols to connect us with Jesus. The "precious blood" is a symbol of Jesus giving his life for us. If you look at it in a different way, the precious blood is the blood that drips down from Jesus' forehead from the crown of thorns. The phrase "and emotion of fasting that cannot get free" represents hunger and death. The meaning behind "I wish I could beat on all the doors, and ask for somebody" if we think of the narrator as Jesus's voice is that Jesus wishes he could have reached more people who were in need. "Look at the poor, and, while they wept softly" is surely an emotion of guilt that he didn't reach as many people as he wanted to. Then he goes on with feeding the poor: "give bits of fresh bread." He turns his guilt to anger toward the rich by saying he would "plunder the rich of their vineyards." Other symbols of Jesus dying for us is the blood and wine that our sins may be forgiven. The speaker uses "two blessed hands" Jesus's hands as they nailed him to the cross. "Blasted the nails with one blow of light" represents Jesus's crucifixion. As they nailed him to the cross, it grew dark, and his holy spirit "flew away from the Cross!" up to the heavens.

¿Qué es eso de que "la gente pobre está muy bien"? Si es pobre, no puede entonces estar bien... En cierto manual de literatura, el escritor y crítico R. H. Moreno Durán establece que en el tratamiento literario del "mundo fascinante de la mina" fracasaron desde César Vallejo en El tungsteno El hombre bajo la tierra . A primera vista, parece evidente la razón que, en el caso de Vallejo, hay en esta crítica: teniendo su novela un título explícitamente minero, mineral, nada hay en la prosa que lo justifique, pues el autor se concentra en otro tipo de asuntos: los sociales y humanos que subyacen a todo el establecimiento minero. Pero, ¿quién dijo a Moreno Durán que la intención de Vallejo era hablar del hombre bajo la tierra? A lo más, lo que el peruano pretende es una "minería de la conciencia", donde toda pretensión de profundidad se basa en el pensamiento, sentimiento o delirio humano. Por lo menos el caso del agrimensor Leónidas Benites responde a tales pretensiones: acaso lo más logrado de la obra sea la forma como Vallejo penetra la consciencia de este personaje, de quien comienza hablando con distancia ("...el agrimensor Leónidas Benites, ayudante de Rubio"); después se interesará en la descripción de su austera vida material y, finalmente, penetrará en los oquedales de su interioridad para descubrir sus delirios y angustias místicos (angustias que, al final, devendrán en preocupaciones sociales y proletarias).
