Born into a musical family in 1925, Luciano Berio's first teacher was his father. At the Milan Conservatoire, he studied composition under Paribene and Ghedini, and orchestral conducting under Votto and Giulini. Dallapicolla was also to play an important part in his training.
In 1955 he founded, together with his friend Bruno Maderna, the studio of phonology of the RAI in Milan, where Luigi Nono soon joined them. This was the era of the first electro-acoustic discoveries (Thema / Omaggio a Joyce, 1958, and Allez-Hop, based on a text by Calvino, 1959). Berio confirmed his reputation as a pioneer, an explorer. Between 1960 and 1972, he gave many classes in Darmstadt, Darlington, at Mill's College, at Harvard, at The Juilliard School, and at Columbia University. At the same time, he was becoming interested in rock and folk music, devoting essays to these forms, and frequently mingling them with his own compositions. The decade produced such works as Visage (The Face), Passagio, Folk Songs (1964, first version), Laborintus II, the Sequenza series: works which seem impregnated with all living forms.

After having won several brilliant First Saxophone (1977) and chamber music (1979) Prizes at the Paris National Superior Music Conservatory, Claude Delangle starts a remarkable international soloist career, which includes concerts and recordings together with a high level teaching. He rapidly imposes himself as a French saxophone master in the field of classical and contemporary music, the latter repertoire he contributes to develop. Building the fame of the saxophone, he becomes one of its privileged interpreters for the great classical works as well as paves the way for the instrument to contemporary creation. As early as 1986, Pierre Boulez chose him as soloist in the Ensemble InterContemporain.

he Living Composers Project Berio Luciano (b. October 24, 1925, Oneglia [now Imperia]). Renowned Italian composer of stage, orchestral, chamber, choral, vocal, piano, and electroacoustic works that have been performed very successfully across the world, and that have been widely recorded. Mr. Berio studied initially with his grandfather Adolfo and father Ernesto, who were both organists and composers, and he quickly developed an interest in the piano. In 1944, he was summoned for military service, and suffered a hand injury that ended his career as a pianist. After the war, he studied counterpoint with Giulio Cesare Paribeni and composition with Giorgio Federico Ghedini at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan from 1946-51, followed by a Koussevitzky Foundation scholarship, which allowed him to receive lessons in serialism from Luigi Dallapiccola at Tanglewood in 1952. Also in 1952, he was in attendance at the first American concert of electronic music, given in New York by Otto Luening and Vladimir Ussachevsky. In 1953, with Bruno Maderna, he founded the Studio di fonologia musicale at Milan Radio for electronic music, and he was its director until 1959. Also with Maderna, he founded the avant-garde journal Incontri Musicali , and from 1956-59 was both its editor and the organizer of the same-named concert series.
