One of the most significant events of the Renaissance was the religious movement of the Sixteenth Century. This milestone, known as the Protestant Reformation, was the most serious upheaval in the Christian church since the introduction of Christianity into Europe. It divided the Western church into two opposing factions and produced the various evangelical branches of Protestant Christendom.
Primarily, this revolution was neither political, philosophical, nor literary. It was emphatically a revolt that was centrally religious and idealistically moral in its motivation. The Reformation, however, did achieve revolution in politics, philosophy, literature, art, and music in the end, although it was not begun for the sake of these aims.
Much profound thought of the last four centuries, even in the Roman Catholic countries of Europe, has been a direct or indirect result of the Reformation. The movement in Germany was probably the most influential and extensive of the Sixteenth Century revolts against the Catholic church. The German Reformation was directed by a man of considerable genius and great energy, Martin Luther.
Luther was born November 10, 1483 in Eisleben, Thuringia (a province noted for its many musicians even up to the birth of Johann Sebastian Bach). Luther was brought up in the strict religious atmosphere of the German church. He was the son of a prosperous miner, who had educational ambitions for his son to become a lawyer. After attending the Latin Schools at Mansfeld, Magdeburg, and Eisenach, Luther entered the University of Erfurt in 1501. From this institution he received the Bachelor's degree in 1502 and the Master's degree in 1505. Following his father's wishes, Luther began to study law. However, during his student years, Luther was increasingly troubled by thoughts of the wrath of God, and he continually sought a means of finding inner peace.

Over 30 years after Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, Memphis and TV Judge Joe Brown unveiled new information on the murder weapon: the fatal bullets found in King does not match those found in the gun. The King family claims that Jowers, who owned a cafe that overlooked the Memphis motel, where King was shot to death, participated in an assassination plot that was allegedly hatched in his place of business. The suit is based largely on a 1993 television interview where Jowers, 73, claimed that mobsters offered him $100,000 to get King killed. According to the suit, Jowers was part of a plot that involved "other unknown conspirators" in King's slaying. Jowers' attorney agrees that there was a conspiracy to kill King. However, the defense claims that Jowers did not know King was the target when he became involved in the murder plot. Jowers also has said that Memphis police officers and the late Frank C. Liberto, a Memphis produce company operator, were also involved in the plot to kill King.

    Very few historical figures are as controversial as Martin Luther. His supporters call him a Protestant hero, a freedom fighter, a wise and insightful church leader. His detractors call him a heretic, an apostate, a profane ecclesiastical terrorist. Still others call him a necessary evil or the unwitting catalyst that set aflame a volatile social and ecclesiastical situation.
    Luther, himself, often called himself a simple monk or a simple Christian. He marveled that a straight-forward stand of conscience had turned him into one of the most-talked-about people of his time.     The traditional solution to the problem of racism is color-blindness, or, from the other side of that coin, individual awareness. For example, in the job sphere there are only three essential things an employer needs to know about an individual applicant: (l) Does the person have the relevant ability and knowledge (or the capacity to learn readily)? (2) Is the person willing to exert the needed effort? and (3) Does the person have good character, e.g., honesty, integrity?
