READ ALL ABOUT IT ! NEWS Welcome to our site Epilepsy Wales was formed by a group of concerned individuals in the early 1980s and became a charity in 1986. Its aim has always been to help people with epilepsy in Wales, their families and carers.
In 1994 the Welsh Office agreed to sponsor a study into epilepsy services in Wales and this reported that there were few services available. Using this evidence, we successfully applied to the National Lottery Charities Board for a three-year grant to set up a network of Fieldworkers throughout Wales.
In 1997 we received a three-year grant from the Glaxo Wellcome Medical Fellowship to establish
a telephone Help-line. In 1998 Epilepsy Wales moved into proper office accommodation in St Asaph. Useful Links Scottish Epilepsy Association http://www.epilepsyscotland.org.uk

Pua has epilepsy, which is just one of the many diseases dogs can inherit through bad breeding practices. Fortunately, she is one of the lucky ones, her seizures are infrequent and she is not on any medication, just a modified diet and a paranoid Mom who makes sure that Pua is not put in any situations (whenever humanly possible) that can lower her seizure threshold. If you are interested in a Canine Epilepsy Chat Room, It takes place on Wednesdays at http://www.schips-r-it.com/chat.html at 9:00 P.M. EST , 6:00 P.M. WST- it's lots of fun! 88. What Is Epilepsy All About
What Causes epilepsy? To understand how epilepsy arises, we must brieflyoutline how the brain functions normally. Varieties of epilepsy.
http://137.172.248.46/epilepsy.htm
Epilepsy is a disorder in which nerve cells of the brain from time to time release abnormal electrical impulses. These cause a temporary malfunction of the other nerve cells of the brain, resulting in alteration of, or complete loss of consciousness.
  • A common disorder... What causes epilepsy Varieties of epilepsy Partial seizures ... The causes of epilepsy
  • A Common Disorder
The most carefully collected data from international surveys indicate that about 1 adult in 200 suffers from recurrent epilepsy. If we include infants who have suffered seizures caused by fever (usually a temporary problem) and adults who have only ever had one seizure, the figure rises to about 1 person in 80. Epilepsy is hardly rare, but despite this, it is not well understood. Back to what it's all about
    What Causes Epilepsy?
To understand how epilepsy arises, we must briefly outline how the brain functions normally. The brain consists of millions of nerve cells, or neurones, and their supporting structure. Each neurone maintains itself in an electrically charged state. It receives electrical signals from other neurones, and passes them on to others. What actually happens is that a tiny quantity of a special neurotransmitter substance is released from the terminals of one neurone. This chemical excites an electrical response in the nuerone next in the chain, and so the signal moves onward.
