The analyses of the YQOL data collected from the adolescents with CFCs and their parents are still in progress, but preliminary results show that the total perceptual YQOL score for adolescents with CFCs is significantly lower than that for adolescents without any clinical conditions, and is comparable to adolescents diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and those with mobility limitations (from data collected in a prior study). Thus, it appears that compared to adolescents without clinical conditions, general quality of life is lower for adolescents with CFCs, and is comparable to adolescents with other clinical conditions and disabilities.

    http://www.dentalleaders.com/cranio.htm
It is an unfortunate fact that many people are born with "facial differences". One out of approximately 700 people is born with a cleft lip or palate. A myriad of other genetic syndromes and misfortunes leave people with some type of esthetic or functional deficit. Other people have the unfortunate experience of receiving trauma to the face as a result of an accident, injury, or illness. Dr. K. Randall Groh is a founder of the renowned Craniofacial Team at Miami Children's Hospital. This team consists of more than twenty five specialists, including plastic surgeons, orthodontists, otorhinolaryngologists, geneticists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, radiologists, pediatricians, speech and language specialists, audiologists, psychologists, and social workers who volunteer their time and many services to help children and adults with facial differences. Dr. Groh contributes to this program by providing dental treatment and implant reconstruction in the office and in the operating room for craniofacial patients. Please contact Dr. Groh if you or a friend or loved one may benefit from this special team approach to facial differences. Also, any charitable donations or financial leads to benefit the team would be most appreciated.
