Farsightedness (Hyperopia) Hyperopia, unlike normal vision , occurs when the cornea is too flat in relation to the length of the eye. This causes light to focus at a point beyond the retina, resulting in blurry close vision and occasionally blurry distance vision as well. Usually this condition is undetected until later in life because the young eye is able to compensate for the hyperopia by contracting the internal lens of the eye.

Causes of hyperopia:
  • Heredity
Diagnosing hyperopia:
Many people are not diagnosed with hyperopia without a complete eye exam. School screenings typically do not detect this condition because they test only for distance vision. Your eye doctor can conduct a refractive evaluation to determine whether your eyes focus light rays exactly on the retina at distance and near. A visual acuity test will determine your ability to see sharply and clearly at all distances. Your eye doctor will also check your eye coordination and muscle control, as well as your eyes' ability to change focus. All of these are important factors in how your eyes see.
Treatment of hyperopia:
Glasses and contact lenses are used by many for the temporary treatment of hyperopia. However, there are a number of

Farsightedness Options What is Farsightedness?
If you can see objects at a distance clearly but have trouble focusing well on objects close up, you may be farsighted. Your eye care practitioner may refer to farsightedness as long-sightedness, or by its medical names, hypermetropia or hyperopia. Hypermetropia causes the eyes to exert extra effort to see close up. After viewing nearby objects for an extended period, you may experience blurred vision, headaches and eyestrain. Children who are farsighted may find reading difficult. Hypermetropia is not a disease, nor does it mean that you have "bad eyes." It simply means that you have a variation in the shape of your eyeball. The degree of variation will determine whether you will need corrective lenses.
What causes farsightedness?
Hypermetropia most commonly occurs because the eyeball is too short; that is, shorter from front to back than is normal. In some cases, the cornea having too little curvature may cause hypermetropia. Exactly why eyeball shape varies is not known, but the tendency for farsightedness is inherited. Other factors may be involved too, but to a lesser degree than heredity.

    Farsightedness or Hyperopia
Farsightedness, or hyperopia, is a refractive error like astigmatism and myopia. About 25 percent of the population is farsighted. People with hyperopia have difficulty seeing near objects closely, like reading or sewing materials.
    Causes
Farsighted people experience blurry near vision because light rays entering the eye focus behind the retina, the light-sensitive part of the eye, rather than directly on the retina. This happens because the eyeball of a hyperopic person is shorter than normal. Many children are born with farsightedness, which may slowly disappear as the child grows and the eyeball lengthens. However, not all children outgrow their hyperopia. Often confused, hyperopia differs from presbyopia , also a difficulty in seeing up close. Presbyopia is caused by stiffening of the crystalline lens in the eye, due to aging. The less elastic lens cannot focus as well as it once could, so reading becomes difficult. It happens to everyone at some point, usually sometime after age 40. Top
    Symptoms
Hyperopics may complain of headaches, eyestrain, squinting or fatigue when reading, sewing, working on a computer or performing other work within close range. If you experience these symptoms while wearing your glasses or contact lenses, you may need a comprehensive eye exam as well as a new prescription.

    HYPEROPIA - FARSIGHTEDNESS
Farsightedness, or hyperopia, as it is medically termed, is a vision condition in which distant objects are usually seen clearly, but close ones do not come into proper focus. In mild cases of farsightedness, your eyes may have been able to compensate without corrective lenses. A person with hyperopia is able to see objects at a distance, but has trouble with objects up close, like books or newspapers. Many people are not diagnosed with hyperopia without a complete eye exam.
hyperopic vision Farsightedness occurs if your eyeball is too short or the cornea has too little curvature, so light entering your eye is not focused correctly. The cornea and the lens work together to focus images from the visual world on the back of the eye (the retina). If an image is out of focus, it is typically because the overall shape of the eye is incorrect or the cornea does not have the proper curvature. Farsightedness or hyperopia occurs when the eye is too small or the cornea is too flat. When this happens, visual images are focused behind the retina.

The technique uses radiofrequency energy to shrink small areas of the cornea, the transparent coat on the surface of the eyeball. Unlike laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK), in which the surface of the eye is reshaped using a laser, conductive keratoplasty does not require cutting or tissue removal. The treatment may become the preferred method of correcting farsightedness in older patients.
