Achilles tendonitis should not be left untreated due to the danger that the tendon can become weak and ruptured. Achilles tnedonitis is aggravated by activities that repeatedly stress the tendon, causing inflammation. In some cases even prolonged periods of standing can cause symptoms. It is a common problem often experienced by athletes, particularly long distance runners. Achilles tendonitis is a difficult injury to treat in athletes to to their high level of acitivity and reluctance to stop or slow down their training. Individuals who suffer from achilles tendonitis often complain that their first steps out of bed in the morning are extremely painful.Another common complaint is pain after steps are taken after long periods of sitting. This pain often lessens with activity.

Although foot problems result mainly from injury, deformity, illness, or hereditaryfactors, improper footwear can aggravate preexisting conditions.
http://www.drfoot.co.uk/childrens feet.htm
Children's Feet INTRODUCTION You worry about your children's teeth, eyes, and other parts of the body. You teach washing, brushing, and grooming, but what do you do about your child's feet, those still-developing feet that have to carry the entire weight of the body through a lifetime? Many adult foot ailments, like other bodily ills, have their origins in childhood and are present at birth. Periodic professional attention and regular foot care can minimise these problems in later life. Neglecting foot health invites problems in other parts of the body, such as the legs and back. There can also be undesirable personality effects. The youngster with troublesome feet walks awkwardly and usually has poor general posture. As a result, the growing child may become shy, introverted, and avoid athletics and social functions. Consultation between the chiropodist, paediatrician, and other medical specialists helps to resolve these related problems. BABY'S FEET The human foot is one of the most complicated parts of the body it has 26 bones, and is laced with ligaments, muscles, blood vessels, and nerves. Because the feet of young children are soft and pliable, abnormal pressure can easily cause deformities.

Abstract
There are 14 million diabetics in the United States. Approximately 25% will develop foot problems and 6 to 10% will undergo amputation. Diabetics spend more time in the hospital for foot complications than for all other aspects of their disease combined. Evaluation of foot complications requires optimal diagnostic imaging targeted toward the area of abnormality. MRI has been increasingly used in the evaluation of diabetic foot disease due to its superior anatomic resolution of bone and soft tissue pathology.
This exhibit will demonstrate methods to optimize diabetic foot imaging protocols and review imaging findings in various diabetic foot conditions. This will including cellulitis septic arthritis abscess and sinus tract formation, osteomyelitis gangrene , and charcot foot disease with attention to the differential diagnosis of various pathologic findings. Comparison of different imaging approaches will be made, with emphasis on current MRI techniques. Post operative diabetic foot complications along with imaging approaches to follow these patients geared toward their potential problems will be demonstrated.

Types of Foot Conditions- Overlapping Toes Definition
Many disorders can affect the joints in the toes, causing pain and preventing the foot from functioning as it should. People of all ages can experience forefoot problems. Overlapping toes can occur in any of the toes and can cause extreme irritation if not corrected.
Cause
Wearing footwear with a constricting toe box can lead to overlapping toes. Another common cause is bunions, usually found in adult women. Overlapping of the fifth toe may occur among children and can be easily corrected.
Pain and inflammation are common symptoms of overlapping toes. If this condition is left untreated, it can interfere with the normal function of the foot. Treatment and Prevention
Any problems that cause pain or discomfort in the toes should be given prompt attention. Ignoring the symptoms can aggravate the condition, and lead to a breakdown of tissue or even infection.

Summary of "fungus" concepts:
Fungi can only live on dead things (That is its ecological niche in our world.)and that fact determines what they can do to people. The surface of your skin is dead as is all nail tissue and hair. The stuff that goes through your intestinal tract is mostly deadthe only exceptions are the normal (or abnormal) bacteria and parasites that may be present. The problem is that once any fungus gets established on that dead tissue that it can actually invade any adjacent tissue that is less than vigorously healthy. The metabolic toxins excreted by the living fungi can kill adjacent tissue and THEN it is dead and the fungi can live on it.
Fungi love dark, moist areas with plenty of dead tissue for it to eat. This is why feet are a favorite place for them to grow. Today's life styles have us wearing shoes, with poor ventilation, and the stored stress-effect causes feet to be more sweaty. Cold feet, which are very commonly associated with sweaty feet, are an indication that less circulation (immunity) is reaching the area. If the dead skin is not removed from between the toes each day (terrycloth buffing) it builds up and that is why most "athlete's foot" begins between the toes.

TOE NAIL FUNGUS
Posted by Patricia Hand on April 01, 1998 at 11:42:47: Dr. Stoll, I wrote over two years about toe nail fungus and you suggested the vinegar. I have really been faithful about applying it morning and night for at least a good year and I still have it. I finally went to a Podiatrist and he suggested the $500 drug. What aboutthe Tea Tree Oil? Do you recommend it and how would I use it? Also what about Lotromin?
Re: TOE NAIL FUNGUS
Posted by Walt Stoll on April 03, 1998 at 12:47:57: In Reply to: TOE NAIL FUNGUS posted by Patricia Hand on April 01, 1998 at 11:42:47: Dear Pat, I would dearly love it if you would describe EXACTLY how you did this. In more than 15 years, you are the first person to have this fail. I know that people are not machines so I have always said that I expected that eventually there would be someone for which this did not work. I am sure that there are many substances out there that will suppress fungal mycelia's growth into healthy new tissue. Tea Tree Oil is one of them. Before I would spend a dime on the ridiculously expensive stuff conventionally recommended, I certainly would become a student of alternatives first. By the way, I wish you had not done this for 2 years before asking aobut it. Unless your nails take more than 4 years to grow out, you should at least have seen normal nail moving up the nail bed at least 18 months ago. ANYTHING you end up using will work the same way. Remember, nail tissue is dead. NOTHING can remove the fungus from already formed nail. ALL topical (and internally administered) remedies have to work by the new nail being free of the fungus and the old nail growing off the body.

AIDS and Your Feet Definition
peripheral neuropathy.
Peripheral neuropathy is a disease that effects the nerves located outside the central nervous system. Neuropathy leads to insensitivity, stiffness, and numbness in the feet. These problems can also lead to foot deformities such as Bunions Hammer Toes Metatarsalgia , and many others. These complications should be taken care of immediately to prevent more serious problems such as the development of ulcers and possibly even amputation.
Cause
AIDS develops from the virus HIV. Scientists have traced the origin of the HIV virus to an African primate, specifically to a subspecies of the chimpanzee.
The HIV virus is found in fluids such as: blood, vaginal secretion, semen, and breast milk. Therefore the virus can be passed on by the following:
  • Sex with an infected person
  • Passed from a mother to her unborn child
  • Blood transfusions with infected blood
  • Injections with unsterilized equipment
One of the highest growing age groups infected with the HIV virus are young adults under the age of 25. They account for about half of all new HIV infections in the United States alone. AIDS is the second leading cause of death among people between the ages of 25 and 44.

Diabetic Foot Conditions By: Thomas J. Elardo, D.P.M. There's a common saying about how you don't know someone's struggles until you've walked a mile in their shoes. For some diabetics, just maintaining their feet well enough to keep walking in their own shoes is a daily and sometimes challenging task. There are over eight million people in the United States that have been diagnosed with diabetes. Of these eight million, approximately 15 percent will develop a serious foot condition at some time in their lives. Foot problems in diabetics arise primarily from three factors: neuropathy, poor circulation and decreased resistance to infection.

FOOT CONDITIONS
BUNION SURGERY:
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE CONSIDERING BUNION SURGERY. Many times modification of shoe gear can alleviate the pain of bunion deformities. There are many types of surgical procedures used to correct bunion deformities. Depending on the procedure your surgeon chooses, recuperation from bunion surgery can take between three weeks to six months. Bunion surgery is not primarily a cosmetic surgical procedure and should only be considered if you are having pain that cannot be relieved by changing shoe gear.
BEFORE If you wear high heel shoes, understand that bunion surgery SHOULD relieve your pain. BUT narrow high heels may continue to irritate the area. IF YOU ARE STILL CONSIDERING HAVING BUNION SURGERY. Complications from bunion surgery are rare, but you should be aware of the more common problems we have encountered over the years. All swelling is usually resolved by eight weeks, however we have seen cases where it takes six months or longer. Motion in your great toe joint may be decreased after bunion surgery; therefore it is very important that you follow your doctors' instructions after surgery to prevent this stiffness.
