CEREBRAL AND CEREBELLAR CORTICES AND NUCLEI: MODULE 8 Reading requirements: Principles of Neural Science, Third Edition, Kandel, Schwartz and Jessel: Pages 627-645 Bibliography The following references have been utilized by Prof Carrick in the preparation of his lecture on the cerebellum. Learners should review the annotated bibliographies and refer to texts of their choice for review of anatomy and physiology of the cerebellum. Prof Carrick's lecture is specific to clinical applications involving a variety of cerebellar based syndromes using diaschisis in chronic Broca's aphasia. Neuroradiology. 1997 Sep; 39(9): 624-6; ISSN: 0028-3940. GERMANY. The cerebellum has anatomical connections to the cerebral cortex, through which it can affect language function. To study these connections, we investigated patients with chronic Broca's aphasia using MRI and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). We selected 15 such patients (9 male, 6 female, aged 17-64 years, mean age 56 years) from 30 chronically aphasic patients. Using the results of SPECT, we divided them into patients with (group 1) and without (group 2) crossed cerebellar diaschisis (CCD). We compared the

*For Medical Professionals only, registration required Chiari malformation, (Hans Chiari, 1851–1916, Austrian pathologist), a malformation of the brain stem that may or may not be associated with hydrocephalus, described by Chiari in 1891. Four different forms were identified by Chiari, according to the degree of severity of the developmental anomaly of the hindbrain. Chiari I malformation involves caudal displacement of the cerebellar tonsils, and sometimes the inferior vermis, through the foramen magnum into the rostral cervical spinal canal. The Chiari II malformation involves displacement of the brain stem and lower cerebellum into the cervical spinal canal. In such cases, the fourth ventricle is caudally displaced and extends below the foramen magnum. Type II abnormality is nearly always associated with lumbar myelomeningoceles ( Fig.1

Called also paralytic b. and sensory paralytic b.

What's New Quick search. Back. Sacramento veterinarians had to issue a warningto pet owners this summer following a large increase in parvovirus infection.
    http://www.vetstreamcanis.com/whatsnew.asp
What's New Quick search Following the first reported fatal case of West Nile virus in a dog in Illinois, no epidemic is forecast because dogs and cats are thought to be fairly resistant to the disease. An 8 year old Irish Setter/Golden Retriever mix was the first reported casualty of West Nile virus, the disease which is being rapidly transmitted across the US and causes West Nile encephalitis infections in humans. The virus has been reported in birds, animals (especially horses), mosquitoes and humans and occured in a number of states including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota and Louisiana. Mosquito control is an important method of counteracting the disease. The question of raising a pet-specific WNV vaccine has been raised but antibiotics so far have provided an adequate treatment for those dogs exhibiting symptoms of the disease. It is thought that numerous dogs have been exposed to the disease but their immune system is sufficient to combat it. In case of disaster, such as war or terrorist attacks, the ASPCA has issued a statement about emergency pet preparedness to all pet owners in the USA.
