What is Hyperhidrosis?
Well in Technical Terms:
Hyperhidrosis is a clinical description to a situation in which the body is sweating excessively and beyond the need of a physiological thermal regulation. HH can affect the palms of the hands, (Palmar hyperhidrosis) feet (plantar HH) face (facial HH) and armpits (axiliary hyperhidrosis). Hyperhidrosis can also appear in the groin and other localized areas. Hyperhidrosis is a result of an overactive sympathetic system. Hence the name hyper sympathetic activity can be used as well. When it affects the hands it affects only the palms of the hands and not the entire limb. It is the opinion of most doctors that hyperhidrosis is a physiological problem and not a psychological problem. Treatement can be a medical or a surgical one. So far medical treatements are very limited with their success, where as the surgical treatement offers long term relief but patients should be aware of possible side effects. Currently the sympathectomy is being done endoscopically meaning an outpatient procedure with mild to moderate discomfort. The sympathetic nerve can be divided or clipped, depending on the surgeon.

Summary
WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS?
Hyperhidrosis is a disorder characterized by excessive sweating that occurs in up to 1% of the population. The excessive sweating can occur in the hands (palmar hyperhidrosis), in the armpits (axillary hyperhidrosis), or in the feet (plantar hyperhidrosis). Although nobody understands the exact cause of this excessive sweating in specific individuals, it is known that the sweating is controlled by the sympathetic nervous system.
WHAT IS THE SYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM?
The human body possesses two different sets of nerves: the somatic nervous system and the autonomic system. The somatic nervous system is the system of voluntary nerves that give us sensation (pain, heat, and touch) as well as the control of our muscles that allow us to move the different portions of our body at will. The autonomic nervous system, on the other hand, is the involuntary nervous system. Many of our bodily functions occur without conscious control such as the rate at which we breathe, the beating of our heart, and the production of sweat, which is important for regulating body temperature. The autonomic nervous system is made up of two components: the sympathetic and the parasympathetic systems. It is the sympathetic nervous system that controls the sweating throughout our bodies.

David S. Edelman
M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. David Edelman, in collaboration with Dr. Ivo Tarfusser, has developed the most advanced procedure for ETS surgery in the world. This ingenious state-of-the-art technique is now available in America. During ETS surgery, Dr. Edelman divides the overactive nerves in the chest cavity which are responsible for the excessive hand sweating, facial sweating and/or facial blushing. Unlike other surgeons performing ETS, Dr. Edelman's specialized surgical technique involves only one tiny incision under each arm and the patients are released from the hospital just a few hours following surgery.

Hyperhidrosis , in simple terms, can be defined as overly active sweat glands stimulated by the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system. This is the part of the nervous system, which is responsible for releasing perspiration throughout the body. This is the body's natural method of cooling itself down during active periods (such as exercise) or exposure to warm conditions. A person with hyperhidrosis experiences uncontrolled sweating and/or blushing. Those who suffer from this condition are faced with major challenges every day. !! First Impressions Count !!
During everyday life people quite often encounter others and are expected to interact socially . A handshake or brief conversation can seem relatively harmless, but in essence provides a firm first impression of another person. Often people are judged based on a first impression. A cold, wet, clammy handshake can sometimes be perceived as a sign of insecurity or uneasiness. Excessive and uncontrollable facial sweating or blushing may make a person appear to be nervous or a bit suspicious. This can be very detrimental during a job interview or important meeting. Ultimately, this can even hinder one's career path or relationship status.
Individuals suffering from hyperhidrosis / facial blushing are often labeled antisocial or even reclusive. Fortunately, today, thanks to the American Institute for Hyperhidrosis, these obstacles can be overcome with a 98% success rate by our newest and latest

38. What Is Hyperhidrosis
This site contains educational information on possible treatments for peoplethat suffer from an excessive sweating condition, known as hyperhidrosis.
http://www.excessivesweating.org/what.html
Hy*per*hi*dro*sis Excessive or profuse sweating. SYN hyperephidrosis, hyperidrosis, polyhidrosis, polyidrosis, sudorrhea from Stedman's Medical Dictionary. Hyperhidrosis, also known as excessive sweating, is a medical condition. There is no single cause of it. Because it is not a disease, it can be a symptom of another medical condition such as a disorder of the nerves. For some people, there may be no explainable cause for their excessive sweating, and they may be considered to have a medical condition known as essential ( idiopathic or primary) hyperhidrosis. This may be due to over activity of the nerves that send signals to the sweat glands in the skin, the sympathetic nervous system. Sometimes this idiopathic form of hyperhidrosis can be genetically transmitted, and it often runs in families; this form may first show up in early childhood. Other people may have sweating as a symptom of known medical conditions, such as an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism), from nerve damage due to diabetes (autonomic dysfunction) or spinal cord injuries, with psychiatric disorders such as panic attacks or anxiety disorders, or even due to the hot flashes associated with menopause. Many people who have hyperhidrosis may also have reddening of the skin, which is most noticeable in the face as blushing, due to the same nerve over-activity. Some medications may by themselves cause excessive sweating, such as the medications often used for prostate cancer, AIDS, or
