Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMJD) - T2.1
Definition of Condition: TMJD is a collective term comprising a number of clinical problems that involve the masticatory musculature, the TMJ, or both. Issue Statement: It is recognized that the TMJ can sustain injury as a result of work related trauma. Many TMJ injuries are associated with non-work related disorders. The TMJ is a synovial joint that is subject to the same pathological conditions that affect other joints in the body. Therefore, before a claim is accepted, a thorough medical history, dental history, and pre-existing TMJ status assessment must be obtained, as well as a non-occupational (e.g. recreational/hobby/leisure) and occupational history. WCB Alberta Position Work Relationship Criteria Work relationship may be considered if one or more of the following criteria are present:
  • the worker sustains a traumatic injury such as whiplash injury, fall, knock, or blow etc. to the head, neck or TMJ area (see whiplash guideline)

Correcting Muscle, Bone and Joint Disorders
by Frank J. King Jr., ND, DC Yes, there are safe, natural and effective answers to problems like arthritis, back pain, sciatica, gout, headaches, muscle and joint injuries, and even tremors. I have found homeopathy can help the majority of these health problems. A properly formulated homeopathic muscle, bone or joint remedy can correct a number of these diseases by addressing the underlying cause(s). Whether the patient is experiencing osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, I have found that an arthritis pain formula can be most effective when administered correctly. In homeopathy, it is not the amount of the dose, but rather the frequency of dose that makes the therapeutic difference. A good rule of thumb I use in my practice is the more intense the symptoms, the more frequent the dose. Taking a dose 6-8 times during an active symptomatic state is most effective. When symptoms have decreased by 50%, I decrease dosage by 50%. When symptoms have decreased by 80%, I decrease dosage by 80%. As symptoms are eliminated, the patient may only require a dose anywhere from 1-3 times a week.

Lilavati Hospital, Bandra, Mumbai - 400 050. Bone scanning has been done with a variety of tracers in the past 30 to 40 yrs. Demonstrating
onditions far sooner than conventional x-rays. The unique advantage on bone scan over others
is of its increased sensitivity in detecting early disease process which looks normal in
conventional X-ray or a lytic lesion in CT scan where the entire skeleton is surveyed at a
reasonable exposure.

89. TMJ Disorders (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders)
This page describes Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJ) disorders - andtheir treatment. The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is the small.
http://www.drfalcone.com/page3.html
The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is the small joint located in front of your ear
where your skull and your lower jaw
meet. This joint allows your lower
jaw (mandible) to move so
that you can talk, yawn and chew. If you place your fingers just in front of your ears and
open your mouth, you can feel each of these joints on the
left and right sides of your head. These two joints
function together and are quite flexible. Muscles and
ligaments attach to and surround these joints and
control their position and movement.
Temporomandibular joint disorders fall into three main categories: Internal derangement of the joint (dislocated jaw, displaced TMJ disc, condylar process injury of the lower jaw) Degenerative joint disease (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, perforated TMJ disc) Myofascial pain disorders (pain and discomfort in the muscles around the jaw joints, neck and shoulder that can cause dysfunction) Myofascial pain is the most common disorder of the TMJ. In addition, people may have a combination of the conditions listed above.

Prevalence and risk factors associated to temporomandibular joint disorders in a population of university students from Campeche City, Mexico
ABSTRACT Although the frequency of temporomandibular joint TMJ disorders are increasing in our population, it has not been clear and possible to identify which signs and symptoms are important in the development of the disease. Moreover the natural history of the disease it is not known and this makes it difficult to determine how many groups of the disease exist and which are the characteristics of each one. Three self filled questionnaires anxiety, life style, stress and a clinical evaluation format were applied to 524 subjects of the Universidad Autónoma de Campeche, México. 46. 9% presented TMJ disorders, the average age is 17.7 years with SD of 3.911. The associated variables found are: age RM , sex RM , loos teeth RM , premature non functional contacts RM , anxiety RM and stress RM among others.

Although no specific data exists regarding the social impact of temporamandibular joint disorders, TMJ is estimated to account for as much as thirty billion dollars a year in lost productivity. Americans lose 550 million work days every year due to symptoms associated with TMJ, with facial pain and headache being the most common complaints. Accordingly, analgesics directed at these symptoms are among the top selling over the counter medicines in our society. Despite the lack specific data regarding the incidence of these disorders, much has been learned over the last decade regarding specific pathology and therapy. Generic terms such as TMJ Syndrome, or Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome (MPD Syndrome) are generally outdated. It is now possible to differentiate between true muscular disorders and those disorders with pathological changes of the temporomandibular joint.
