Current projects Title: Topotecan (T) / Cisplatin (DDP) 3 days versus Topotecan / Cisplatin 5 days in patients with metastatic small cell lung cancer (SCLC) Project: Short title: SCLC EDII Topo/Cis 3 days vs. 5 days - Pilot study Sponsor: GlaxoSmithKline Project staff: K. Jensen, C. Conradt Cooperation: Prof. Dr. M. Wolf, Dr. U. Seifart, Marburg Description: Topotecan is a new and active drug in SCLC. In first line therapy and in sensitive relapse, response rates of 40% have been reported. A combination with a DNA cross linking agent was suggested to be highly effective, in particular as Topotecan also inhibits DNA repair. Therefore, a phase II trial was initiated to a) assess the activity of T/DDP in patients suffering from ED SCLC and b) to compare the conventional 5-day regime with an experimental 3-day schedule. Comments The CCN family of genes presently consists of six distinct members encoding proteins that participate in fundamental biological processes such as cell proliferation, attachment, migration, differentiation, wound healing, angiogenesis, and several pathologies including fibrosis and tumorigenesis. Whereas CYR61 and CTGF ( CG:286

Wilms' tumor
Definition: Wilms' tumor is a cancerous tumor of the kidney that occurs in children.
Alternative Names: Nephroblastoma; Kidney tumor
Causes, incidence, and risk factors: Wilms' tumor is one of the most common tumors of the abdomen in children and the most common type of kidney tumor. The exact cause of tumor formation in most children is unknown. It is associated with certain birth defects including urinary tract abnormalities, absence of the iris (aniridia), and hemihypertrophy (enlargement of one side of the body). It is more common among some siblings and twins, which suggests a possible genetic cause. The tumor may become quite large, but usually remains encapsulated (self-enclosed). It may spread to other body tissues, especially the lungs.
The frequency of disease occurrence is estimated to be about 1 out of 200,000 to 250,000 children. The peak time of occurrence is at 3 years old, and Wilms' tumor is rare after the age of 8 years.

Three gll-related recombinant baculovirus-expressed peptides of 100, 60, and 45 to 50 kDa were detected with a polyclonal antibody against gll; these correspond to the authentic subunits glla and its cleavage products gllb and gllc, respectively. These proteins were subjected to N-terminal sequencing, and the results showed that the protease cleavage sites were identical to those of authentic gll. The expressed gll was shown to be transported to the surface of infected cells as judged by an indirect immunofluorescence test. Antibodies raised in mice immunized with the recombi-nant gll neutralized the infection of PrV in vitro.Mice inoculated with the recombinant gll were completely protected from lethal challenge with PrV.
