STOP Why Soy "Sucks" for humans Soy is a sneaky little bean. It does most of its damage on the molecular level, so it's difficult to pinpoint soy as a culprit. Most of soy's flaws lie in its content of hormones, proteins and amino acids - and let's face it, a lot of people simply don't speak that language. It's much easier to say "milk makes you fat" than it is to say "soybeans are subjected to alkaline and high-heat treatments that denature lysine, a fragile amino acid". Hence the anti-milk campaign's leg-up on the anti-soy campaign. You've read our claim that soy is damaging to male health. It lowers sperm count, enlarges the prostate and even shrinks the testes, and it causes permanent harm to the male reproductive tract when fed to boy babies. How is this possible? How can soy, the staple ingredient in every vegan, vegetarian, low-carb or high protein snack, be harmful? In test animals, soy lowers the sperm count by shrinking the epidydimis, the duct next to the testes. It also delays puberty, accounts for abnormally large overall growth, and hinders the animals' ability to interact socially. For females, the results are opposite - soy causes early puberty. How does it work? The answer is estrogen, the very hormone which has boosted soy menopause therapy over the past few years. (1) A phytoestrogen (plant estrogen) known as genistein has been shown to cause cell death and necrosis of the testes - this would account for the apparent "shrinkage". Further, genistein inhibits the synthesis of testosterone, delaying puberty and damaging the reproductive tract. (2) Another isoflavone (phytoestrogen) known as daidzen is actually toxic to human sperm. (3) Scientists are beginning to blame soy for the worldwide decrease in male fertility!
