Filosofia-História-Religião Arte e Cultura Prática Cristã Apologética Arte e Cultura O Paraíso de Dante IV Os franciscanos No tempo de Dante, a Ordem dos Frades Menores, fundada há pouco por São Francisco, estava mergulhada em uma crise profunda. Logo após a morte de São Francisco, em 1226, produziu-se uma divisão entre os frades que queriam uma atenuação da regra, e os mais próximos discípulos do grande santo. Dessa divisão nasceu o grupo dos Espirituais franciscanos, que, por seus exageros e erros, foi condenado por vários Papas. A cisão franciscana foi gangrenada pelas idéias de Joaquim de Fiore, que foram usadas pelos Espirituais, para confirmar suas teses apocalípticas, dando-lhes um tom claramente messiânico e milenarista. Dos Espirituais, cujos principais líderes foram Salimbene, Ângelo Clareno, Ubertino di Casale, Gerardo di Borgo San Donino, João de Parma, destacou-se um outro grupo ainda mais radical que deu origem à seita dos Pseudo-Apóstolos ou Fraticcelli, cujos chefes foram Segarelli e Fra Dolcino, ambos executados por suas heresias e crimes. Mais tarde, os erros dos Espirituais deram causa a mais uma seita no seio da Ordem Terceira franciscana: a seita dos chamados Beguinos ou Begardos, cujo principal inspirador foi o famoso Frei João Pedro Olivi, que coincidentemente lecionou em Florença, no convento de Santa Croce, entre 1287 e 1289, pouco antes da época em que Dante o frequentou.

Mersenne's Accomplishments Many early writers felt that the numbers of the form 2 p - 1 were prime for all primes p, but in 1536 Hudalricus Regius showed that 2 - 1 = 2047 was not prime. By 1603 Pietro Cataldi had correctly verified that 2 - 1 and 2 - 1 were both prime, but then incorrectly stated 2 n -1 was also prime for 23, 29, 31 and 37.
