Up John Coates B.Sc. Chartered Engineer, MICE John became regional Director in the Dublin office in 2001. He has worked on Cork Main Drainage since 1997. John was educated at Sedbergh School and then at Southampton University studying civil engineering and graduating in 1979. London working principally in geotechnics and roads and following a year in maritime works joined Knight Pieshold in Ashford Kent in 1982. Apart from an 18 month secondment to Amey Roadstone construction on a road and bridge contract, the next 7 years were spent with them in England and in Zambia . Work during this time was almost exclusively on dams in Africa - in hydro power and tailings dams. In 1985 he became a Chartered Member if the Institution of Civil Engineers. On returning to the UK with a young family he moved to Mott MacDonald in 1989 working in the maritime division. In 1992 an opportunity arose to move to a newly established joint Mott MacDonald / Southern Water company called Coastal Wastewater Consultants.

Cheap Web Site Hosting JOHN COATES (1865 - 1941) John Coates began his career as a baritone. He appeared in the D'Oyly Carte Opera Chorus at the Savoy in 1893 and subsequently toured as Mr. Goldbury in "Utopia, (Limited)". He played a few seasons of musical comedy and then decided to re-train his voice as a tenor. It was during this period that he sang Sullivan's ballad 'The Absent- Minded Beggar' at a concert at the Alhambra with Sullivan conducting. The song had been written at the time of the Boer War to words by Kipling. Coates made his opera debut as Claudio in Stanford's "Much Ado About Nothing" at Covent Garden in 1901. He appeared with the Moody Manners Opera Company in 1907-8 and sang Tristan and Siegfried for Beecham at Covent Garden in 1910-11. No one could be as witty or ironic as JA but he did so well that I want to buy the completion. Unfortunately, it is out of print and costs too much ($30 +)through a used book resource. Written by Mitch (9/3/99 1:07 a.m.) Yes, Margaret is the angry/bitter one in the John Coates completion, which incidently was first published in 1958 in hardcover, and reprinted in paperback in 1977. This is, in my opinion, one of the better Jane Austen completions. Comments by Laura Bishop on November 26, 1998 I have read The Watsons by John Coates and Emma Watson by Joan Aiken. Of the two I prefer Coates's story much better. Joan Aiken I didn't really care for as a author (an differently not as a writer trying to imitate Jane Austen!). She just wasn't very good that's all!
