Hi! Welcome to the Franklin descendants page. We would like to invite you to join an email group of Franklin descendants, or just let others know how you relate to one of the Franklin branches. It's just an informal way to keep track of who's who, and how we all relate to one another. The only requirement is, of course, that you be a Franklin descendant!
The names as indicated below are Franklin descendants who wish to unite in efforts to unify research and form a common bond apart from the broader spectrum of Franklin contacts, such as the rootsweb mail list or GenWeb query sites. This message is an invitation for you to join this list. Simply fill out the form at the bottom of this page, or send your name and lineage to Terry Dean Olson , beginning with the earliest Franklin in your line, as shown below. Ending with your great grandparents is alright, or whatever you're comfortable with. Many are aware of the dangers of providing too much information about themselves over the internet, including a mother's maiden name, which is often used as a password for credit cards, and such. For those with an hosted email list, current "members" are reminded to add only those making a request to be added, and removing promptly, anyone desiring removal. Current listmembers may at any time request removal from the list by such a request to those listed, or to the host, who will forward the request. Members may also include or remove lineage information about themselves at any time. After you post your information below, you will go to another page with information regarding hosted email lists for your lineage.

    Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
    Trip Length: 9 days

    Dates: June 8-16, 2003
    Price: $2550 from Fairbanks
    Rating: S
(Can combine with Marsh Fork Canning for 18-day backpack/paddling trip)
Early summer in the Arctic Refuge is special: No mosquitoes, wildflowers popping up by the minute, meltwater gurgling down mountain streams, and newborn wildlife. This trek takes us to an extremely wild and remote corner of the Refuge, through rugged, austere mountains, up hidden valleys, and over a spectacular pass, into convoluted geology and aufeis-covered U-shaped valleys. Dall sheep are the denizens here, along with grizzlies, wolves, rough-legged hawks, golden eagles and the elusive Grey-headed Chickadee (Siberian Tit), which nests in just a few places. If you like the high country, and constant light, this is a trip to savor. Day 0: Travel to Fairbanks, Alaska. The group generally plans to meet for dinner the night before the trip to go over final trip details, and to get acquainted. Overnight accommodations are on your own, but we can help you with suggestions and bookings at our favorite bed and breakfasts and hotels in Fairbanks. Day 1: Trip participants meet in the early morning at the small airport in Fairbanks, where we pack all our gear onto a small commercial plane and fly 150 miles north, over the Steese and White Mountains and the Yukon River, to Arctic Village, a small Gwich'in settlement (100 people) situated on the banks of the Chandalar River on Venetie Indian Tribal lands, surrounded by the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The village offers an educational cultural experience. We meet our bush pilot here, and fly in groups of 2 to 5 to the heart of the Arctic Refuge. From here, we fly by small charter bush plane across the Brooks Range, flying over miles and miles of seemingly endless mountain peaks and valleys; we land at the edge of the Sadlerochit Mts. By afternoon, we should be deep in the heart of the Arctic Refuge.

Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na'im Michael S. Berger Anita Bernstein David R. Blumenthal ... Medieval Marriage Contracts: Jewish, Christian and Muslim Christian Marriage: A Critical Catholic Perspective
    (Philip L. Reynolds; forthcoming)
This book examines both historically and critically the development of the medieval doctrine of marriage as a sacrament. The first part examines the sacramentality of marriage in Augustine, in 12th and 13th century theology, and in the decrees of the Council of Trent. The second part focuses on four themes: marriage as sexual and companionate relationship; marriage as union; marriage and the family; and indissolubility. The introduction and conclusion outline the key issues, the distinguishing features of the Western theology of marriage, the flaws in this theology, and the witness of the orthodox tradition. The author assumes that the "classical" Western doctrine of marriage contains a vital kernel that commends itself in the first place to Catholics, but secondarily to Christians of any persuasion. But the author argues, too, that some serious flaws in the tradition, especially regarding indissolubility, minimized the pastoral usefulness of the doctrine and have led to serious confusion today. The author proposes a revised theology of marriage centered on "vocation to permanence" rather than indissolubility.

    John Kampfner
March 31 2003 John Kampfner , our political editor, explains how Blair is fighting what for him is the true battle: to persuade history, as well as contemporary opinion, that he and Bush were right to start the conflict As the bombs pound Baghdad, as the Republican Guard resists, as Saddam Hussein broadcasts defiantly, Tony Blair is serenity personified. The war is not, he insists, going badly. Iraqis will cheer their liberators when they get the chance. Civilian casualties will stay low. The regime will soon be toppled. The post-Saddam settlement will involve the United Nations, the Middle East peace process will get back on track and the divisions between Europe and the United States will heal.
