Raymond Souza,
former Kauai
official, dies
Star-Bulletin staff Former Kauai county official Raymond D. Souza died last Wednesday in Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. Souza, of Kapaa, held elective office for 20 years, including terms on the County Council and the former Board of Supervisors and seven years as county auditor, formerly an elected position. He retired after failing in a 1972 bid for re-election. "He was always an active Democrat," said Turk Tokita, former administrative assistant to the Kauai Board of Supervisors. Souza continued to "come out in support of the younger candidates" after his retirement. "Finance was his forte," said Tokita. Souza graduated from St. Louis School and received a degree in business administration from St. Mary's College in California. He formerly managed the plantation store in Kealia and a clothing store in Kapaa. He was business manager of a weekly newspaper, Kauai News, before entering politics. He is survived by sons Ainsley K., Earl and Deharn K. Waiwaiole; hanai daughter Tamarie Kaholi; sister Olivia Kanai; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Thank you so much for sharing. You have a great website. Your enthusiasm for life and your breadth of vision was a wonderful mental diversion for me today. I stubbled on your site looking for information about Port Arthur. You had the most and best information out there. I've never been to Port Arthur, but I think I want to visit. It seems like a nice little town. Again, great site. Barbara

The intent was to visit all ecclesias in the south and south west of Cameroon, and also to hold a weekend Bible School for these ecclesias at Buea. Zimbabwe
Visited May/June 2002 by Steve and Ruth Moore
The Conference for Northern ecclesias appeared to be well received by the members. Almost everyone was helpful and a Christ-like spirit was very apparent; there seemed no grumbles or tensions. There was plenty of food for everyone, despite mealie meal and sugar being almost unobtainable. The study on Galatians seemed to be appreciated. Everyone received a document folder (private donation) to keep their Bible study notes. Zimbabwe

California State University Stanislaus: A History
Robert LeRoy Santos California State University, Stanislaus bsantos@toto.csustan.edu
Chapter 5: September 1964 - August 1965 This was the final year for the campus to be located at the fairgrounds. The move to the new campus would begin on June 7 immediately after commencement. This too was the final year for the campus to have only upper division students. Also, it was the last year for the two-semester system. It was a year of growth not only in students, faculty, and staff, but in awareness that the infant college was indeed an institution of higher education where people came to learn and debate issues. Students were changing. They were questioning authority more as the “Sixties Movement” was revving up. Times were indeed “achanging” to quote Bob Dylan. A new breed of youth was challenging post-World War II thinking and status quo. Turlock had grown since the planting of the campus. The population of the city was now over 10,000 with the “city’s trade zone” at about 37,000. The city annexed 223 acres south of the new campus site where Brown School and North Park were located. A shopping center was constructed at Canal Drive and Johnson Road, and Emanuel Hospital built a 75-bed facility. A new police and court building had also been constructed. Growth could be seen in the increase of new telephones as reported in this article from the January 7 Turlock Journal: Solid Growth for Turlock. First fruits of growth directly attributable to our new Stanislaus State College showed up in the number of telephone installations during the year of 1964. Manager James Bainbridge says the 950 new telephones added during the year greatly exceeded expectations of the company’s estimates. Further, he anticipates larger increases each year as the SSC settles on its new campus.
