To the normal physiologic developments that take place in menarche, pregnancy, and menopause are added the stresses of combined family life and career. These in turn are exacerbated by longevity and the cultural norms against aging, which have given rise to esthetic interventions that offer options as well as pose new threats. Extractions: Adiposis dolorosa is an uncommon disorder of subcutaneous tissue that was first described by Dercum in 1892 at Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. The understanding of this disease has not progressed very much in the past 98 years. It remains better understood as a clinical entity than as a physiologic or metabolic process.

Extractions: How is a lipoma treated? Edith Jones* remembers the day she first noticed a small, egg-shaped lump under her arm. Worried about breast cancer, she made an immediate appointment with her doctor. To her overwhelming relief, the lump turned out to be something called a lipoma, a noncancerous lump of fatty tissue. Over the next few years, however, she was less than pleased to find a dozen more lipomas cropping up on different parts of her body, including her chest, thighs, and upper arms. "I know that these run in my family," she says. "But I was still hoping to escape them." What is a lipoma? A lipoma is a round, moveable lump under the skin (they range from pea-sized to the size of an egg, or even larger sometimes). Technically, lipomas are a type of tumor, but don't be alarmed by the term they're benign, which means they aren't cancerous. Lipomas are typically small less than one inch in diameter but can grow much larger in some cases. They are soft to the touch and if you manipulate yours with your fingers you may notice that it moves around a bit. Lipomas grow in the layer of fatty tissue beneath the skin, most commonly on the chest, back, shoulders, neck, and upper arms and thighs. The good news is that a lipoma is likely to grow very slowly; the bad news is that if you have one lipoma you may develop several.

Extractions: Dercums disease Morbus Dercum (Adiposis dolorosa) is a chronic disease with mild to intensive pain in the fatty tissue, fatigue and obesity as the most apparent symptoms. But the disease affects the entire body and can present a long list of symptoms. This disorder usually occurs in females between the ages of 25 and 60, but can début in all ages, as well as in younger people and amongst males. It is about 20 times more frequent in females than in males. Dercum's disease, was originally described in the medical literature in 1892 by the American doctor Frances Xavier Dercum. Typical pain pattern Various areas of the body may swell for no apparent reason. The fingers becomes clumsy, you drop things and sometimes the fingers go numb. Disturbed sleep, many have difficulties going to sleep because of the pain, but other forms of sleeping disorders also occur. General fatigue, gets worse with even mild activity. Tendency to become black and blue that seems to arise spontaneously or after alleviated blow. Stiffness after resting especially in the mornings.
