Extractions: Incontinencethe involuntary release of urineis a medical condition that is well-known but rarely discussed. Because it can be socially embarrassing and isnt life-threatening, many people with incontinence suffer in silence by not talking about the condition with their physicians. Their silence is unfortunate because there are treatments that can help. Despite the secretiveness surrounding it, incontinence is anything but rare. Experts estimate that 35 to 50 million Americans, including children, have periods of occasional or frequent involuntary urine loss. Perhaps due to the effects of childbirth on the pelvic muscles, women experience incontinence two times more often than men. The male genitourinary tract.

Extractions: Atonic Bladder, or Flaccid Bladder, Symptoms Causes and Treatments Atonic bladder, or flaccid bladder, occurs when the bladder becomes dilated and fails to empty properly. Atonic bladder differs in this regard from most other bladder problems, where the bladder tends to be overactive. The dilated bladder can be stretched by excess urine buildup, leading to overflow leakage and damage to the bladder walls. Other bladder problems such as urinary tract infections can occur because of urine pooling and subsequent bacterial growth in the flaccid bladder.

Stress Incontinence Stress incontinence. Alternate Names Loss of pelvic support; Urinaryincontinence; fallen bladder. Causes and Risks NORMAL URINATION http://www.rwjuhh.net/Atoz/encyclopedia/article/000891.asp
Extractions: Medical Encyclopedia Encyclopedia Disease S -> Stress incontinence Stress incontinence Alternate Names: Loss of pelvic support; Urinary incontinence; Fallen bladder Causes and Risks: NORMAL URINATION: The ability to hold urine and maintain continence is dependent on normal function of the lower urinary tract, the kidneys, and the nervous system. Additionally, the person must possess the physical and psychological ability to recognize and appropriately respond to the urge to urinate. The process of urination involves two phases: 1) the filling and storage phase, and 2) the emptying phase. Normally during the filling and storage phase, the bladder begins to fill with urine from the kidneys. The bladder stretches to accommodate the increasing amounts of urine. The first sensation of the need to urinate occurs when approximately 200 ml of urine is stored. The healthy nervous system will respond to this stretching sensation by alerting you to the need to urinate while also allowing the bladder to continue to fill. The average person can hold approximately 350 to 550 ml of urine. The ability to fill and store urine properly requires a functional sphincter muscle controlling output of urine from bladder and a stable bladder wall muscle. The bladder wall muscle is a detrusor muscle. A detrusor muscle is one that has the action of expelling a substance, in the case of the bladder wall muscle the substance is, urine.
