Extractions: NEW TREATMENT FOR HYPERHIDROSIS Hyperhydrosis is excessive perspiration due to overactivity of the sweat glands. It may be general, occurring all over the body, or it may be confined to the face, the palms of your hands, your armpits, below your breasts, in the groin area or on the soles of your feet.
Dr. Rose's Peripheral Brain--HYPERHIDROSIS gustatory sweating; Recurrence is rare (05% in series as of 1993; for axillarysweating as opposed to palmar sweating, is probably greater, ie about 15-20%); http://faculty.washington.edu/momus/PB/hyperhid.htm
Extractions: HYPERHIDROSIS I. Epidemiology May affect 0.6-1% of population (Ann. Surg 186:34, 1977) II. Differential dx Hyperthyroidism Acromegaly or other hyperpituitarism Diabetes Alcohol use Chronic infection Collagen vascular disease Sarcoidosis Pheochromoocytoma Carcinoid syndrome III. Treatments that have been usedrarely significantly helpful; most have not been confirmed in controlled trials Glycopyrrolate (Robinul) 1mg 1-2tabs BID-TID (an anticholinergic; causes dry mouth and blurry vision; can also use topically? 1-2mg/ml in H20) Propantheline Phenoxybenzamine 10mg/d (not if suspect pheo!) Clonidine SSRI's Aluminum chloride in ethanol topically for axillae Iontophoresis for hands (?) Calcium channel blockers IV. Subcutaneous curettage of axillae to remove eccrine sweat glands Fails in 20% of cases Can cause reduced arm ROM V. Thoracic sympathectomy Known since 1920's to eliminate axillary and hand sweating Usually destroy T2 and T3 ganglia bilaterally; sometimes also T4-T6 Thoracoscopic much simpler than open procedure; can be a 1-day hospitalization
Extractions: Maintenance of BP depends on afferent impulses from baroreceptors in the carotis sinuses and aortic arch and on efferent impulses from the sympathetic system has to ensure an increase in heart rate and cardiac output. In diabetes these sympathetic vasomotor fibres are damaged and there is a failure of this mechanism. In addition some people with diabetes have reduced noradrenaline levels which contribute to the postural hypotension. Postural hypotension does not usually become symptomatic, however until systolic BP falls 10 What causes gustatory, sweating and nocturnal diarrhoea in autonomic neuropathy?
Linda Bartoshuk Q&A Steffan When we eat peppers, there is a normal reaction called, gustatorysweating. Typically, the sweating is restricted to the head. http://www.pbs.org/safarchive/3_ask/archive/qna/3294_peppers.html
Extractions: Fortunately for all of us who love chili peppers, exposing the tongue to capsaicin does not affect the sense of taste in the long run. However, while you are experiencing the burn of the pepper, you may notice that tastes seem blunted (e.g., see Lawless, Rozin, and Shenker, 1985). The exact mechanism for this effect is not known. Dr. Tracy Karrer (one of my students) studied desensitization of the tongue to capsaicin. She asked subjects to swab capsaicin solutions onto their tongues for 15 minutes. Then she let the burn of the capsaicin slowly fade (it takes about 20 minutes). After that when she reapplied capsaicin, it produced no burn (this is an example of the desensitization of the tongue that can be used to treat the pain of oral lesions); however, the only taste change was a slight reduction in the ability to taste bitter and that lasted on the order of days. Back Pain Seems To Be Related To Eating There are of course other autonomic system disorders and other causes of gustatorysweating, but at the very least, you should be checked for diabetes. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/neuro/messages/31559a.html
