Extractions: For ventilation, the guidelines refer to "engineering controls" in lieu of 100% outdoor air at the recommended rate of 18 air changes per hour (ACH). See Dilution Ventilation. The first recommendation is for HEPA filters in any air conveyance system where TB microbes are thought to exist as it is theorized that a HEPA filter of 99.97% at 0.3 micron or better would remove 100% of the TB organisms. Therefore, a number of air changes called equivalent air changes may be passed through a HEPA filter before being sent back to the conditioned space. This would be less the amount used as exhaust to maintain a negative pressure relationship to adjacent spaces. As an example, 15 air changes could go through the HEPA (recirculated) as equivalent air changes and when combined with 3 air changes of 100% OSA used for makeup, the total would be 18 ACH. The second is for UVC light energy (UVGI) an acceptable control. The guidelines do not refer to UVGI in lieu of HEPA filters but in addition too so as to include the upper air UVC fixtures. However, due to the recognition by the CDC of UVGI's efficacy against TB, it is commonly done in HVAC equipment where 100% outdoor air and/or HEPA filters are not an option. The most notable UVGI user is the National Jewish Center in Denver and it is also the country's leading treatment center for drug resistant TB. UVGI has been used there exclusively for over 12 years! They also have the direct distinction of having the fewest number of conversions to active TB.

In 1854, the New Orleans City Council established a "temporary asylum for the indigent insane" and gave Recorders of the various districts the power to commit patients to this facility "until provision can be made for their admission into the State asylum at Jackson." Although apparently intended as a stop-gap measure, the New Orleans Insane Asylum continued to admit patients until 1883, when it was closed and the remaining patients were transferred to Jackson. Researchers should be aware that 19th- and 20th-century definitions of insanity differed markedly from current definitions. Alcoholics, the mentally retarded, or those suffering from various physical disorders were routinely committed to asylums during the period covered by these records. Volume 1 (1858-1875) includes the patient's name and a number assigned at entry, date of entry, age, place of birth, "how afflicted," name of person who committed the patient, length of stay, date of discharge (or death), and "remarks." Remarks include notes concerning the patient's release. Also included is an insert headed "Men's Department," listing the inmates of each cell.

The Kaluakoi Hotel and Golf Club on the Hawaiian island of Molokai is, frankly, not in the same league as the posh resorts we usually feature. But we feel it is worthy of being designated a Choice Resort simply because it provides a reasonably priced and totally relaxing golfing holiday. The Kaluakoi Hotel and Golf Club is the only international standard resort on the island. Molokai feels quite different to the Hawaii that visitors usually experience. At night a visitor can see the dim lights of Honolulu, just half an hour flight away. Molokai and the Kaluakoi Resort feature long, white beaches with virtually no one else around. In vitiligo, patches of skin lose their pigmentation when the pigment producing cells (the "melanocytes") are attacked and destroyed. It may affect the skin, mucous membranes, eyes, inner ear or hairs leaving white patches. The usual type of vitiligo is called "Vitiligo Vulgaris" (means: common vitiligo). Variant types include linear, segmental, trichrome and inflammatory vitiligo. This disease affects an estimated 1% of the world's population. It affects individuals of all ethnic origins and both sexes, but is much more easily noticed on darker skin as areas that fail to tan . It is hereditary in one third of those affected. Vitiligo often starts on the hands, feet or face, and frequently pigment loss is progressive. Half the patients first notice vitiligo before 20 years of age. It often appears in an area of minor injury or sunburn. It is believed that vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder (autoimmune means the bodies own immune system turns on itself). Certain white blood cell direct the destruction of melanocytes. People with vitiligo are also somewhat more prone to other autoimmune diseases, such as alopecia areata, autoimmune thyroid disorders, Addisons disease, pernicious anemia, and diabetes mellitus.

Extractions: With Mulder out of contact on a train heading to Canada, Scully investigates the metal implant she had removed from her neck after X claims it holds the key to everything she needs to know. Tests on the chip reveals that it is a microprocessor for collecting information, it replicates a person's mental processes. The chip is Japanese in origin, further investigation reveals a shipment of the chips was sent to a Japanese Doctor Zama working secretly at a Hansens disease research facility in West Virginia. Scully travels there and discovers that Dr Zama had been carrying out experiments on the patients, until armed men came and begun killing off all of the patients. Scully recognises Dr Zama from a photo, as being present during her abduction . Scully is approached by an unknown man who explains that Dr Zama is really Dr Ishimaru, secretly brought over to the US after World War Two to continue his experiments. But he is unwilling to share his knowledge with the US government and is trying to get the information out of the country. Meanwhile Mulder finds Dr Zama murdered on the train but manages to recover his notes about his experiments. As Mulder goes in search of the killer he finds the boxcar unlocked and is attacked as he enters. He fights off his attacker but during the scuffle the door to the boxcar closes arming a bomb. Mulder is overcome by the killer but is saved by X. Unfortunately however Dr Zama's notes fall in to the Cigarette Smoking Man 's hands.
