What causes Meniere's disease is not exactly known, however, it is believed to result from metabolic problems of carbohydrates similar to hypoglycemia . Poor blood flow to the brain from poor circulation and clogged arteries can also be a factor. In women, fluid retention during premenstrual cycle may also be involved. Other things that may be factors are: allergies anxiety , listening to loud noises, too much salt, and stress more Nutrient / Supplement Importance Helpful notes Manganese a deficiency in this mineral may make a person more vulnerable to Meniere's disease. B vitamins important for proper function of the nervous system. They also help with stress, depression, and related problems. The syndrome may be idiopathic, in which case it is called "Ménières disease", or secondary to various processes that lead to interference with the normal resorption of endolymph, e.g. neurosyphilis (and possibly Lyme disease), following viral infections (sometimes years later), after trauma, with congenital anomalies, etc. Transient ischemic attacks microvascular compression syndromes , thyroid disease, autoimmune processes (es pecially sarcoid, periarteritis, giant cell arteritis, Susac's and Cogan's syndromes) otosclerosis, perilymphatic fistula , multiple sclerosis, diamox responsive recurrent vertigo and ataxia, vestibular epilepsy and vestibular migraine are also in the list of differential diagnoses. There is a particularly high incidence of migraine in patients with Ménières disease so that treatment may have to be directed at both entities. In most instances, full blown attacks of Ménières are probably caused by an increase in endolymphatic pressure that leads to a break in the membrane separating perilymph (extracellular, potassium poor) and endolymph (intracellular, potassium rich) . The p otassium rich endolymph then bathes the vestibular nerve leading to a depolarization block and a transient loss of function, creating an acute vestibular imbalance, until the membrane is repaired and normal K Na relationships are restored. A physical distention leading to a mechanical disturbance of the utricle or saccule may also produce symptoms, for example, causing the

Meniere's disease is a disorder of the inner ear that causes episodes of vertigo, tinnitus, a feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear, and fluctuating hearing loss. A typical attack of Meniere's disease may be preceded by fullness or aching in one or both ears. Hearing fluctuation or tinnitus (ringing or sounds in the ears) may also precede an attack. A Meniere's episode generally involves severe vertigo (spinning), imbalance, nausea, and vomiting. The average attack lasts two to four hours. After a severe attack, most people find that they are extremely exhausted and must sleep for several hours. In some people, Meniere's episodes may occur in clusters; that is, several attacks may occur within a short time. In other cases, weeks, months, or even years may pass between episodes. Between the acute attacks, most people are free of symptoms or note only mild imbalance and tinnitus. In 75 percent of the cases, Meniere's disease is confined to one ear, while in the other 25 percent, both ears are involved. In most cases, a progressive hearing loss occurs in the affected ear(s). Although an acute attack can be incapacitating, the disease itself is not fatal.

    Extractions: The hearing and balance canals of your inner ear consist of hard bone that is lined with a soft membrane. An important fluid called endolymph circulates in both the cochlea (hearing canal) and the semicircular (balance) canals. In the cochlea, movement of endolymph caused by sound waves transmits sound signals to the brain. In the semicircular canals, movement of endolymph sends messages to the brain about the position of your body in physical space. In Ménière's Disease, excess endolymphatic fluid accumulates in the hearing and balance canals, causing pressure to build and the canals to swell. The swollen canals cannot function properly, which may cause the symptoms of Ménière's Disease. When there is pressure in the hearing canal, the brain receives confusing sound messages that cause roaring or ringing in the ear (tinnitus), or the brain does not receive messages at all (hearing loss). When fluid accumulates and pressure builds in the balance canals, the brain receives "error messages" about the movement and position of your body, creating the sensation of vertigo.
