Since then, says Dr. Robert Risinger, weve been defining the topography of emotion. Despite the widespread media coverage of Chronic Wasting Disease in Wisconsins deer population, it is important to remember that as yet there has been no causal link established between Chronic Wasting Disease and human disease. The pain that results from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy is chronic, often burning, and constant. One in Every Classroom:

NINDS Landau-Kleffner Syndrome Information Page Information sheet compiled by National Institute of neurological disorders and Stroke. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/landaukleffnersyndrome_doc
Extractions: Landau-Kleffner syndrome (LKS), also called acquired epileptiform aphasia, is a rare, childhood neurological disorder characterized by the sudden or gradual development of aphasia (loss of language) and an abnormal electro-encephalogram (EEG). LKS affects the parts of the brain that control speech and comprehension. The disorder usually occurs in children between the ages of 3 and 7. Typically, these children develop normally and then, for no apparent reason, they lose the ability to understand others and to speak. While many of the affected individuals have seizures, some do not. The disorder is difficult to diagnose and may be misdiagnosed as autism, pervasive developmental disorder, hearing impairment, learning disability, auditory/verbal processing disorder, attention deficit disorder, mental retardation, childhood schizophrenia, or emotional/behavioral problems.

Extractions: There is no known cure for PDD. Medications are used to address certain behavioral problems; therapy for children with PDD should be specialized according to the child's specific needs. Some children with PDD benefit from specialized classrooms in which the class size is small and instruction is given on a one-to-one basis. Others function well in standard special education classes or regular classes with support. What is the prognosis?
Neuron Fact Sheet Educational booklet about how neurons develop, function, and die, prepared by the National Institute of neurological disorders and Stroke. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/pubs/NINDS_Neuron.htm
Extractions: Request free mailed brochure Until recently, most neuroscientists thought we were born with all the neurons we were ever going to have. As children we might produce some new neurons to help build the pathways - called neural circuits - that act as information highways between different areas of the brain. But scientists believed that once a neural circuit was in place, adding any new neurons would disrupt the flow of information and disable the brains communication system. In 1962, scientist Joseph Altman challenged this belief when he saw evidence of neurogenesis (the birth of neurons) in a region of the adult rat brain called the hippocampus. He later reported that newborn neurons migrated from their birthplace in the hippocampus to other parts of the brain. In 1979, another scientist, Michael Kaplan, confirmed Altmans findings in the rat brain, and in 1983 he found neural precursor cells in the forebrain of an adult monkey.

NINDS Back Pain Information Page Brief information sheet compiled by the National Institute of neurological disorders and Stroke. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/health_and_medical/disorders/backpain_doc.htm
Extractions: Back pain is a symptom that can arise from many causes. It can range from a dull, annoying ache to absolute agony. Many cases of back pain are caused by stresses on the muscles and ligaments that support the spine. Sedentary jobs and lifestyles may create a vulnerability to this type of stress or damage. Obesity, which increases both the weight on the spine and the pressure on the discs, is another factor. Strenuous sports such as football and gymnastics can also damage the back. Is there any treatment?
Extractions: There are several neurological disorders affecting newborns that require clinical care by a physician or other healthcare professional.
