This disease is caused by some bacteria which can be picked up from the rectum or the mouth of your partner. In some cases' people have allergic reaction to latex or spermicide and can get the disease this way. This disease is caused by several other diseases. Symptoms I n men the symptoms can be similar to gonorrhea, but usually milder. The incubation period varies but it is between one week to one month. The discharge form the urethra is thin and clear. In women the symptoms are like those of a urinary tract infection. If nonspecific urethritis if left untreated in men, it may cause difficulty in urination and perhaps some bleeding. It can also cause the testicles to swell and be tender. If it spreads to the prostate it can cause pain in the groin. Treatment This disease can occasionally be mistaken for gonorrhea, so the doctor will prescribe penicillin which does not treat NSU. It must be treated by tetracycline or another antibiotic

Extractions: : I am a 30 years old Engineer working in Nigeria . I was diagnosed about one year ago with Non Specific Urethritis . The doctor prescribed an antibiotic to treat the disease . ( yellow pills , I think proxycyclin , name of the medicine is not written on the pills and the pills were given to me in a plastic container . I got the proxycyclin name from the nurse ) . The mild clear discharge from the penis in the morning disappeared and so did the mild pain when urinating . However , after 1 - 2 weeks from stopping the treatment , I had the same problem again ( NSU ) which was confirmed again by the doctor through medical Lab test and culture . I visited my doctor for more than 6 times during the past year and the same problem occured i.e. ( symptoms disappear and then appear after stopping the antibiotic ) .

We tracked down an alergy to oranges (his urethra would swell shut) and this solved part of the problem. It is very distressing since he will suddenly need to urinate and not be able to. I can not make any associations/ connection to any food he is eating. Lately it seems that his urethra is crusted shut. He is only able to urinate sitting in hot water. Does anyone have any thoughts?
