Description:
This study examined the reliability of the Teasing Questionnaire-Revised (TQ-R) and the relations between recalled childhood teasing and current psychological distress. Three hundred and three undergraduate college students were administered the TQ-R, Beck Depression Inventory-II, Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale, Social Phobia and Anxiety Inventory, and UCLA Loneliness Scale. A sub-sample was administered the TQ-R two weeks later. Test-retest reliability of the TQ-R ranged from moderate to strong for the TQ-R scores. Internal consistency for the TQ-R scores ranged from acceptable to good. Intercorrelations among factors were moderate suggesting that the factors measure related but distinct teasing domains. The TQ-R Total Score and Appearance, Performance, and Social factors were related to later psychopathology with correlations of a moderate effect size. Implications of these findings and areas for future research are discussed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Someone Who Understands And Is Knowledgeable
This was the most common sense and practical book a person could buy who has felt totally overwhelmed by two very troubled children adopted form eastern Europe. No "sugar-coating" here, as Dr. Federici get right down to the cold, hard facts that helped put our family back together. All the other books played around with "RAD", "ADHD", and other catchy terms but never got to the right way to treat damaged children. We hope there are more books coming from this author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible
This book is an indispensable source for those who have adopted children from orphanages.I wish I'd had it when I got home from Russia 7 years ago.My child can't be found in the Dr. Spock books, but he'sall over the pages of this one.Thank you for confirming some things we've already discovered and given us a guide for where to go next.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Intensive and Helpful Plan for Our Family
This book had a rather intriguing title, and we were at the ends of our rope with our two Adpoted Russian Children from one of those "Summer Camp Programs" which we would never do again. We were totally lost and Dr. Federici's book gave us the strength and new direction to not disrupt our adoption. All the traditional medications, therapy, RAD stuff was tried to no avail. This book helped us take apart the problem and put the pieces back together. Strongly recommended for families like us who were ready to quit. All these other books we read were "very nice and polite", but did not touch on the institutional issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful, Intensive But Family Friendly
After years of all sorts of therapies ranging from medication, play, family, attachment and you name it, we FINALLY found something that has worked in the long term for our two Russian adopted children. We were told by the agency that "time will heal", and by all the therapists that it is "RAD/ODD/ADHD" which we later found out is the "classic combination" that all these therapists diagnosis. Dr. Federici's book gave us hope and a solid "treatment plan" which was missing after all these years. It was a tough one, but so were our kids as we adopted them older (told they were "healthy and fine"). We put everything into effect and even consulted with him and he added to our hope and gave even more guidelines. After six months, we feel we have our family back in order but will continue to work the program outlined. This book is a "must buy" for the struggling family needing direction. It looked tough at first, almost beyond our ability, then turned out to be very practical and systematic.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Is a "Must Read" For All Families Ready To Give Up!!
After struggling with our 2 Russian-adopted children who were diagnosed with every psychiatric disorder known to mankind, and also being involved in every different type of treatment(including "attachment therapy" by trained "Evergreen People"), we had just about given up. All the standard diagnoses: RAD/ODD/ADHD/LD with never a treatment plan that made sense. Just drugs and more non-productive therapy. This book was referred to us by many and gave us HOPE and INSPIRATION. It sure was tough to complete the "praogram", but we made more progress in six months, than in years of all these therapies by all these "experts" who missed the boat entirely. This program Dr. Federici developed began from tough to the most compassionate and reconstructive. Please read before "giving up". ... Read more

Product Description
Rickel and Allen demonstrate that prevention work must draw from many areas of research and that sensitivity is essential to a variety of issues related to child, parent, and family dysfunction and social policy.

This book is remarkable for its coverage, scope and balance; it begins with an historical overview of prevention research, essential concepts and research practices for identifying populations at risk, and other types of intervention programmes. Prevention programmes are reviewed in relation to several specific types of dysfunction evident in infancy, childhood and adolescence. Key topics of contemporary clinical work covered include: emotional problems associated with child abuse, divorce and marital separation, chronic mental disease, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, suicide and eating disorders.

Product Description
About the Author

Mickie R. Singer is a writer, teacher, artist, storyteller and poet, depending on her mood or the angle of the sun. Haunted by a lifetime awareness that there was "something wrong," she was over forty before her multiple mental illnesses were diagnosed. With Bi-Polar, Panic, Anxiety, Attention Deficit, Obsessive Compulsive and the more recently acquired Adjustment Disorder, she sometimes has limited ability to cope.

Description

But in spite - and because - of these conditions, Mickie has lived a full, intriguing and often fun-filled life. She is an eccentric and humorous person who enjoys the adventures of living even though the ravages of mental illness are a constant threat and have, at times, shut her down. This book is an account of all her experiences - some amazing, some amusing and some disastrous. A former education director for the Mental Health Association of York County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of a mentally ill mother and an active mental health advocate, she is both personally and professionally knowledgable about the nature of mental illness. To affirm that a mentally ill individual can keep their spirit even when "the black hole yawns" is the inspiring intention of her book; to speak out against the stigma surrounding mental illness is her lifetime goal.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cultural look at women's depression
Where other self-help books tend to perpetuate readers' bad feelings by pointing to something that is "wrong" with them, Ellen McGrath does something infinitely more helpful: She provides clear, rational, *cultural* explanations for women's depression and offers action-orientedapproaches to dealing not only with the depression itself but also with thefactors contributing to it.

McGrath explains that cultural pressures andattitudes cause women to become depressed about their relationships, bodies, and age - making us feel victimized, depleted, and angry. Thedepression caused by these forces, McGrath tells us, is natural, normal:"To not feel angry or victimized by some of our typical femaleexperiences would be to live in a fantasy world of denial" (p. 7).Yet, she reminds us, we are living in a time when we have moreopportunities, more power available to us than women from any other time:"We can reclaim and transform the negative energy we had devoted tosuppressing and denying these bad feelings and use it instead to set ourlives moving in a healthy new direction. Once we accept that there aretimes when feeling bad is good, we've taken an important step toward livingmore fulfilling lives..." (p. 8). She then goes on to show her readershow this can be accomplished through taking action, self-exploration, andlearning to recognize the forces at work around and inside us.

This bookis currently out of print. As a woman who has found it incredibly helfuland healing, though, I think it should be brought out of retirement.McGrath refuses to see us as passive, helpless victims, and I think it'shigh time we refuse to see ourselves that way, too! This book can help. ... Read more
