Product Description
Free yourself of allergies and asthma once and for all with Dr. Pescatore's breakthrough program

" Dr. Fred Pescatore's The Allergy and Asthma Cure reveals a unique and revolutionary understanding of the underlying conditions of allergy and asthma-from food triggers to the environment to nutritional deficiencies. His integrative program of both alternative and traditional treatments can dramatically improve health and vitality, safely and soundly. This book will have a prominent place in my library and I highly recommend it! "
-Ann Louise Gittleman, Ph.D., C.N.S., author of the bestselling The Fat Flush Plan

"Conventional medicine has largely shrugged its shoulders in confusion about the causes of allergies and asthma in millions of people. In this book Dr. Fred Pescatore deals with the roots of these modern epidemics, drawing on his clinical experience, and he provides clear recommendations for turning back the tide and restoring health."
- Jack Challem, author of the bestselling Syndrome X and The Inflammation Syndrome

"The Allergy and Asthma Cure is the book we have all been waiting for. Dr. Pescatore manages, in a concise manner, to summarize all the facts and presents a comprehensive healing guide that incorporates both conventional and alternative approaches. A must-read for those dealing with these issues."
-Artur Spokojny, M.D., F.A.C.C., Medical Director of Integrative Medicine of Manhattan, Associate Professor of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College

"I believe that The Allergy and Asthma Cure holds the key to understanding how nutritional medicine can really work for you. Allergies (from skin conditions to seasonal types) and asthma can be cured, not just held at bay. This book shows the way. Dr. Pescatore is truly a healer."
-Roberta Flack, singer/songwriter

"I have seen firsthand how The Allergy and Asthma Cure has changed people's lives for the better. I have started using his treatment protocols for my own patients with a remarkable success rate, and best of all with no side effects. Many of my patients are getting off their allergy and asthma medications completely. I strongly recommend this book to anyone with allergies or asthma."
-Dana G. Cohen, M.D., board-certified, Internal Medicine

"This book is for anyone willing to give up his or her life as an asthmatic. I had tried every drug and treatment available and the asthma only got worse. Under Dr. Pescatore's care, I began to see results within six weeks. It's been over two years now living without an attack. His approach has changed the way I live."

1-0 out of 5 stars Not much science for a Dr.
I bought this book desperate to find something new, something that would work.I've tried every anti-histamine out there and have been on allergy shots on and off for 12 years with minimal impact.

The cure for allergies and asthma is a bold claim, so I assumed there would be something behind it.This book was a big disappointment. My issues:
- There is no cited science or scientific studies to back up his claims. He talks about what he's done in his practice, but no double-blind scientific studies, journal-published articles, or really evidence at all outside a few testimonials.I expected more from a MD.
- He claims that basically all allergies are caused by leaky gut and candidas.Really, my allergies go nuts in one city but not another because I have a yeast infection in my gut?
- There are some tests to diagnose these conditions, but he either doesn't use them (candidis) and just assumes everyone has the conditions, or the tests cost $1000 and aren't covered by most insurance (ALCAT).
- The diet is so amazingly complex as to be unmanageable for most people. Here's a short list things you can't eat for 3-7 months (and may or may not be able to reintroduce): Sugar, Fruit, Cheese, Salad dressing, Tomotoes, Corn, Peas, Carrots, Pototoes, Anything with Yeast, White Bread, White Rice, and Alcohol.

Yes, I read the whole book. No, I will not be trying this crazy diet from a former Atkins doctor to "cure" my allergies.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Allergy and Asthma Cure
This book has alot of good information to do with elimination diets/antibiotic use and the development of candida albicans problems that cause food allergies. It is an excellent book to read and follow if you suffer from allergies or asthma.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Works!
This book has saved my life!Since moving to Austin, Texas (allergy capital of the world)from Chicago not only have my allergies and asthma gotten extremely bad, but I've also been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, chronic sinus infections, panic disorder, agoraphobia and chronic fatigue.I have gone off of my antihistamines, Flonase, antidepressants, birth control pills and lowered my Flovent dosage by 75%!Tapering off that while I start Intal again.I can't tell you how this has saved my life! You do the program to the tee - you'll feel better in days.Within one week I felt like a million bucks! It's not easy, but to feel this good is really worth it!To top it off, I lost 8 pounds in two weeks (now 126)!Please get this book for people that are suffering.A lot of people are getting this for Christmas this year!

3-0 out of 5 stars Mixed reviews, may work for some
The book is based on changing your eating habits to improve asthma. It has alot of good information on allergies, food intolerance, and asthma, as well as allergy tests. It also talks about asthma medications and their side effects, and has a chapter on nutritional supplements. The author used to work for Atkins and is his philosophies are less extreme than Atkins but he does incorperate alot of meat into his program. His basic program is to identify food sensitivities, and avoid foods that you are sensitive to, as well as things that contribute to candidiasis and leaky gut. If you aren't ready to make big changes in your diet you may be wasting your money. The diet cuts out sugar and fruit for a limited time, and he advises you to leave the sugar out. One of the issues in this book is it is really based around identifying your food intolerances. He recommends tests which will run you $400 and up. These are not often covered by insurance. I did take the test and found out my intolerances. He also states you can do an elimination diet if you can't afford the tests but it sounds very confusing and hard to implement. While he recommends most meats, much research shows that antiinflammatory diets work best with asthma, as well as vegan diets, which would contridict this method. I'm not a vegetarian but I have tried to keep my meat consumption down based on my own research and I have tried to stay on an antiinflammatory diet that is more plant based. Also, his recommendation for fish oil, while great, is contridicted in alot of lietrature as it can make symptoms worse for some asthmatics. So do your own research on fish oil and see if it gives you any problems if you do implement this part of his program.
I think his book is good in the sense that it focuses on positive diet changes and would be beneficial to someone who is eating alot of junk food and it may well help their asthma. It also is a decent reference book for allergy tests, medications, and supplements. If someone is on a healthy diet and takes good care of their health and is savy to nutrition it may not be a big help. Also not recommended for vegetarians, except that the tests may uncover food allergies if you are willing to pay for them. To some it may be worth a try, it does have some good information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, good
I previously purchased this book, used it successfully, and then lent it(much marked up) to someone (don't remember who)and now I need it again. I didn't follow the program 100%, but it did work. I was on allergy shots, and had asthma symptoms at certain times of the year depending on what was blooming. This book worked for me, and I have tried a lot of them. ... Read more

Product Description
An indispensable guide to dealing with this potentially deadly allergy.

Nuts and nut oils are found in countless foods and topical ointments/creams. They are also the leading cause of fatal and near-fatal food allergy reactions. Unfortunately, nut allergies are not as rare as they were once thought to be. According to U.S. and British studies, their prevalence has doubled over the last decade alone.

Co-written by a leading expert on nut allergies, How to Live with a Nut Allergy tells you what you need to know to:

  • Avoid exposure to all kinds of tree nuts and peanuts
  • Reduce the risk of setting off a serious allergic reaction
  • Be prepared should a reaction occur
  • Avoid a reaction in close quarters, such as airplanes
  • Keep children safe from exposure

    5-0 out of 5 stars Life-saving information
When my daughter was diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening peanut allergy, I was in a state of panic. This book, recommended by a relative, spells out clearly and thoroughly steps which can, and in some instances must, be taken to live with a peanut or tree nut allergy. From suggestions for reading labels at the grocery to tips for dining out and taking precautions while traveling, this book has helped me to feel well-informed and prepared to help my daughter live a safe and full life with her newly diagnosed allergies.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative yet not overwhelming
As the parent of a newly-diagnosed peanut-allegic child, I've bought and read many books on allergies in the last few months. This is my favorite. It contains practical information and tips for dealing with a nut or peanut allergy. It is easy-to-read and includes real-life ideas for staying safe with a nut allergy, as well as being realistic that there are some limitations to places nut-allergic people can safely go.Even after reading several other books, there were a few new tidbits here.

I wish I had read this book first.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative ans easy to read
This book is clearly laid out with with all the basic information you will need to deal with a nut allergy. It would be useful for some one who is allergic to ALL nuts rather that just peanuts. It lists the many different types of nut and many not so obvious places you will find hidden nuts.Help is provided for the minefield of reading food labels. There is a good chapter on the use of medication in the event of an allergic reaction, and how to store and use your medication which is a useful reference to have should you ever need to explain this to anyone; such as a teacher or babysitter. My favorite chapter was on sending a nut allergic child to school. The authors give clear solid advice on what you will need to say and do to help make the school/daycare/preschool environment as safe as possible for your child. If you are starting off on a journey to learn more about nut allergy and how it will affect your life this book will help you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Book review
The book was written in 1985. Some of the information is inaccurate as far as the allergy testing methods. I feel Food Allergies for Dummies is a more accurate reference and it is up to date. My allergist said that Food Allergies for Dummies was a very good reference for people dealing with this issue.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've been referring to this book for 10 years
I bought this book about 10 years ago when the hospital wouldn't take my blood donation for my grandfather. They said I was too low in iron.I had been EXTREMELY tired drinking mounds of coffee to stay alert at work. This book solved my problem. My wife also has severe exercised induced anaphylactic shock - 4 doctors and allergists couldn't help and she was told to never exercise again. This book solved that problem and she still runs marathons.Between the index and the vitamin and mineral charts, I refer to this book every time I have a health question. My book is now torn in two with underlined and worn pages.I'll never give it up.A MUST HAVE for anyone interested in health and nutrition, and virtually any health problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Correct the vague symptoms that your doctor hasn't helped
With the huge number of additives, preservatives, herbicides, pesticides and other cides present in our foods, it's no wonder we are getting fatter and sicker and not losing weight on yo yo diets. Dr. B's book helped me lose weight and quit asthma medicines and my doctor couldn't/did't help. Ifyou have vague symptoms that don't get better, you might consider foodintolerances & read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have home reference for any family or individual!
I found Dr. Braly's Food Allergy & Nutrition Revolution to be both insightful and a benefit to our household. As parents of four (#5 is due in 3 weeks), my wife and I regularly refer to Dr. Braly's book for itsin-depth information, research, treatment and protocols for a multitude ofhealth conditions.A few years after reading Dr. Braly's book, I finallymet him at a health conference and was fascinated by the wealth ofinformation and experience he has.Recently Dr. Braly informed me he hastwo new health guides coming out through Keats Publishing and I willdefinitely be purchasing both of them. Please feel free to contact meregarding my opinion on Dr. Braly, his book or even on how to contact him.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is life changing information for the chronically ill.
As a medical student, I must read many books on disease states and the therapies for them. The initial event that creates an environment for many disease states is commonly a breakdown of the body's natural ability tomaintain health (i.e. immune system deficiencies).Dr. Braly's book offersexcellent information that explains how your body should work, why itdoesn't, and what you can do to make it work properly just by modifyingyour diet.I have worked with a physician who has been in practice forthirty years that became interested in Dr. Braly's book after his wife'smedical problems had failed to resolve by traditional and expensivemedicals treatments. After diet modification, there was drasticimprovement in her health and soonafter, her quality of life.Thisprompted the physician to treat his own patients with Dr. Braly's dietmodification plan.Today, the vast majority of his patients are thosebeing successfully treated for food allergies and have spent thousands ontraditional medical therapies with previous doctors that have had less thanbeneficial results.I must highly recommend this book to anyone sufferingfrom fibromyalgia, JRA, chronic headaches, intestinal problems, or otherillnesses that have not responded to traditional medicine. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not so sure!
I have read the book and followed all the advice as far as what to eat and what not to eat in this book, some information may be valid, but as far as what the author is saying, basicaly, eliminate all wheat based food... well maybe it works for some people but for me, I HAVE NOT LOST A POUND since on this diet...I have been on this diet since a month + so when the author is saying that one aquaintance lost 5 lbs the first week i am wondering if this book is for real or is it just plain fiction ?!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sound reasoning for a healthy weight loss
I've just finished Lose Wheat, Lose Weight, and I found it a very well reasoned approach to weight loss. Once the authors make the reader aware of how much wheat pervades our daily diets, and how wheat is a top allergen, it seems only logical for those suffering from the symptoms of wheat intolerance to give going wheat-free a try. I found the nutritional information section of the book to be one of the best diet approaches I've ever read, and it certainly is a healthy one.
The only drawback of this book, for US readers, was that the recipe section was clearly written with a British audience in mind. The types of fish, which are recommended often throughout the menu suggestions, are those varieties more commonly found in Britain than in the US.However, substitutions can easily be made, and it is not imperative to follow the menus once you understand the concepts of the diet.
I whole heartedly recommend this book, and am planning on giving copies to some of my family members who could benefit from this information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Book is a surprising winner!
While the first chapter or two is off to a slow start and were not very elegantly written, the further I got into the book the better it got.The title of the book intrigued me because several people I know have gone wheat-free with great success, including weight loss, but I didn't understand the science behind it.I don't know if I am or am not wheat resistant, but the author pointed out how much wheat is in the average American diet. It's hard to have a balanced diet if we have wheat for breakfast (toast, bagels, pancakes), wheat for lunch (a sandwich or pizza), and wheat for dinner (pasta). In addition to reducing or eliminating wheat in the diet, the author then goes on to include much excellent weight-loss and nutritional advice.Based on the science presented, I'm definitely motivated to try the suggestion of going 4 months wheat-free before reintroducing wheat. There is a lot of helpful information here that I have not found elsewhere, including which highly nutritional foods to eat when feeling depressed rather than sugar-rich junk food. No one book is going to present everything there is to know about nutrition or losing weight successfully -- I also recommend "The 2001 Multi-Diet: Taming the Food Beast" and the "Real Age Diet" -- but this presents additional information I needed that I did not find in other books. It's not so hard to lose weight when one doesn't have food cravings and when one is eating a highly nutritious, satisfying diet! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I ever bought for my son
My son had always wanted a pet so this past summer I bought him the cutest 8 wk. old new puppy you had ever seen; we had the best month with her getting to know her, bonding and falling head over heels in love with her; then about a little over a month after i had bought her, my son and I started developing allergies to her that progressively got worse so we took her back to the shelter which is the hardest thing I had ever personally had to do; although we only had her a month, the bond with her and my son was something to see and we cried and were heartbroken for the longest of times; i then searched amazon for a children's book about it and was very grateful to find Aaron's Awful Allergies; it really helped my son and I accept that we just could not have her and that we were not the only ones out there with similar allergies; the book was a lifesaver!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!

Aaron's Awful Allergies is one of my favorite children's books, partly because it's very well written, with a cute twist at the end, and partlybecause my son has annoying allergies, so we can really identify withAaron.I'd recommend this book to anyone! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars What a joke! Don't waste your money.
Unless you are quite literally dying, you will get nothing of value from this book so don't waste your money.

To follow the diet probably would cost you more than you earn, if you were even able to find the ingredients. Then, you would need to hire a full-time chef to prepare the ridiculous meals of yucky foods and take time off from work to deal with the effects of eating the food.

If, however, you are suffering horribly and no doctor can tell you what to do about what is killing you, THEN perhaps try this book as a last resort.

4-0 out of 5 stars probably the best of it's kind
While I didn't follow the diet, this is the only book I've found that really has some good combined allergy recipes. There are still a few foods that can cause problems in some of their recipes (eg.tomato, barley) but it still seems like the best I've seen.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discovering Your Allergies or Trying New Foods
"Quite often when you feel stressed, you should think about your diet rather than look for the things in your life that cause you stress." ~ pg. 12

You may already have a pretty good idea of what you are allergic to and this book will help to pinpoint additional allergies if you are still having specific symptoms. By eliminating most palm oils, peanuts and nuts from your diet, you may solve many problems. Soy butter and soy nuts are just as delicious.

The list of symptoms that indicate a food intolerance is a long one and you are sure to find a symptom here that could include frequent headaches, fatigue or insomnia. A short discussion about environmental causes for allergies is discussed - chemicals used in household cleaning can be significant in skin allergies. Switching to some of the Seventh Generation products can help or try Mrs. Meyers cleaning products.

    Helpful suggestions include:

Soaking rice in mineral water to enliven the grains
Spouting your own beans, grains and seeds for salads
    Purchasing oil in glass bottles
Using kelp as a substitute for salt

The authors introduce foods like umeboshi plums, kamut, quinoa and tamari. You may recognize many of the healthy foods presented and then enjoy using them in the recipes.

Amaranth and Apple Pancakes - uses sheep's milk and amaranth flour
Miso Soup - seaweed and miso soy bean paste
    Roast Chicken with Plum Stuffing
    Seafood Paella
    Aduki bean burgers
    Millet Croquettes
    Redcurrant Sauce
    Barley Scone Bread
    Date and Coconut Muesli Bars
    Cherry and Coconut Slices
    Chocolate Hazelnut Biscuits
    Fig and Lime Sorbet
    Lemon and Elderberry Cordial
    Mushroom and Tahini Spread

From my perspective, the recipes in this book would add to my diet and help me include more foods than eliminate foods. So, this book can be seen from two different perspectives. I don't see any deprivation in sight...this looks like a celebration of new foods and eclectic recipes to try as soon as you can make a trip to the health food section of your local store.

"The majority of people with allergies or food intolerances react to less than five items, of which the most common are tap water, dairy products, wheat, and other cereals that contain substances similar to gluten..." ~pg. 34

    Product Description
If you own an animal and if it suffers from any symptom, it may be worth investigating if the symptom is due to an undiagnosed allergy. Eliminating Your Pet s Allergies will educate you about the many common everyday ailments your pet may suffer and show you the most common causes lead them to that ill-health. Just like humans, pets can suffer from myriad allergies and suffer from any number of manifestations. Have your pet examined and tested by an NAET specialist. You will be surprised how easily you may be able to give relief to that animal. This book shows how many of the symptoms the pet suffers may be from simple allergies to something it is eating, drinking or contacting on a regular basis. The number one reason why pet-owners visit veterinarians is because of acute or chronic allergic reactions that affect the skin. But this book will show you that skin is not the only organ affected by allergies. In fact, any symptom you can think of may be the result of an allergy of some part(s) of the body to just about anything in the universe. This book will show you how you can help your pet get out of that allergy world and live normally. The author also shows you a few animal self-help acupressure points that can enable you to help your pet on your own in your privacy of your own home. Eliminate Your Pet s Allergies will educate you several ways to track down the causes of your pet s illness and help you find the right help if your self-help tips become insufficient to restore it s health. Interesting testimonials from several pet owners make the book interesting. Anyone who owns a pet must read this book in order to maintain a peaceful life with a pet. ... Read more
