Excerpt: Albert Einstein (pronounced ; German: ; 14 March 187918 April 1955) was a theoretical physicist, philosopher and author who is widely regarded as one of the most influential and best known scientists and intellectuals of all time. He is often regarded as the father of modern physics. He received the 1921 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his services to Theoretical Physics, and especially for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect." His many contributions to physics include the special and general theories of relativity, the founding of relativistic cosmology, the first post-Newtonian expansion, explaining the perihelion advance of Mercury, prediction of the deflection of light by gravity and gravitational lensing, the first fluctuation dissipation theorem which explained the Brownian movement of molecules, the photon theory and wave-particle duality, the quantum theory of atomic motion in solids, the zero-point energy concept, the semiclassical version of the Schrödinger equation, and the quantum theory of a monatomic gas which predicted BoseEinstein condensation. Einstein published more than 300 scientific and over 150 non-scientific works. Einstein additionally wrote and commentated prolifically on numerous philosophical and political subjects. Einstein at the age of 4. His father showed him a pocket compass, and Einstein realized that there must be something causing the needle to move, despite the apparent empty space.Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, in the Kingdom of Württemberg in the German Empire on 14 March 1879. Excerpt: An aneurysm or aneurism (from Ancient Greek: - aneurusma "dilation", from - aneurunein "to dilate"), is a localized, blood-filled dilation (balloon-like bulge) of a blood vessel caused by disease or weakening of the vessel wall. Aneurysms most commonly occur in arteries at the base of the brain (the circle of Willis) and in the aorta (the main artery coming out of the heart, a so-called aortic aneurysm). As the size of an aneurysm increases, there is an increased risk of rupture, which can result in severe hemorrhage, other complications or even death. Aneurysms can be classified in several different ways: In a true aneurysm. the inner layers of a vessel have bulged outside the outer layer that normally confines them. The aneurysm is surrounded by these inner layers. A false or pseudoaneurysm does not primarily involve such distortion of the vessel. It is a collection of blood leaking completely out of an artery or vein, but confined next to the vessel by the surrounding tissue....More: http://booksllc.net/?id=322553 ... Read more

Product Description
This book was created on the foundation of a sketchy diary kept by the author during the three months her daughter, Karen Lewis, was hospitalized at Bryan LGH East Medical Center and at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, both in Lincoln, Neb., following a cerebral aneurysm. It includes memories and reflections of the author as she sat by her daughter's bedside.

It also includes pictures of clay sculpture created by Karen before the aneurysm as well as poems written by her during the same period of time, each tied in some way to the particular incidents of the day reviewed. Also included are eight pages in a section written by Karen entitled "My Life in a Dysfunctional Body." ... Read more

Product Description
The management of cerebral aneurysms is still the subject of controversy in spite of recent dramatic advances in surgical techniques and neuro-intensive care. Currently, two main topics in this field have totally different aspects: (1) the management of unruptured cerebral aneurysms as a preventive medicine and (2) neurocritical management of severe subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) after the rupture. These topics were discussed during the Swiss-Japanese Joint Conference in Zurich, Switzerland, in May 2001. Selected papers from this meeting are included in this volume presenting new clinical experiences in order to find out updated and proper ways to focus the treatment and providing updated information on neurocritical care aspects as well as endovascular and surgical treatment modalities carried out in daily practice in Zurich and Japan. ... Product Description
Cerebral aneurysms develop in about 4 % of westernpopulations and involve the risk of rupture. Bloodflow patterns are of interest for understanding thepathogenesis of the lesions for a specific patient.Velocity mapping with phase-contrast magneticresonance angiography (PC-MRA) is a non-invasivemethod for in vivo measurements on blood velocity.Based on these, a realistic patient-specific computermodel can be generated and the flow field with allhemodynamic parameters can be simulated. As theaccuracy of the PC-MRA data and subsequent modelingmust be validated, a realistic flow field in asilicone phantom was investigated. Velocities wereacquired under equal conditions with PC-MRA, laserDoppler velocimetry (LDV) and computational fluiddynamics (CFD). The results showed that PC-MRA wasqualitatively, but not quantitatively, similar to LDVand CFD in straight arteries, while the accuracy ofPC-MRA decreased in regions with complex flowpatterns as present in aneurysms. Thus, it isappropriate to use PC-MRA as inlet conditions for CFDto calculate hemodynamic parameters in aneurysms, rather than to derive them directly from themeasurements. ... Read more
