Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS or APLS) or antiphospholipid antibody syndrome is a disorder of coagulation that causes blood clots (thrombosis) in both arteries and veins as well as pregnancy-related complications such as miscarriage, stillbirth, preterm delivery, or severe preeclampsia. The syndrome occurs due to the autoimmune production of antibodies against phospholipid (aPL), a cell membrane substance. In particular, the disease is characterised by antibodies against cardiolipin (anti-cardiolipin antibodies) and β2 glycoprotein I. ... Read more

Product Description
The description by Graham Hughes of the "antiphospholipid syndrome" or Hughes Syndrome is one of the medical landmarks of the 20th century. Here is a disease, a medical discovery, which should turn such fashions around. In a series of brilliant clinical observations, Dr Hughes, not only pieced together what is now clearly a common and important disease, but also, with his team, set up the blood tests and treatment guidelines, which are used world-wide.In a series of clinical articles in the early 1980s, Dr Hughes and his team described the headaches, the miscarriages, the clotting tendency, the effect on platelets, the strokes, the memory loss.. and almost all of the clinical picture now recognised as a distinct syndrome. This was not an anecdotal observation. It was a prime example of meticulous clinical observation and dogged determination. Hughes Syndrome is now recognised as a major new disease. It has been described, by Dr Josep Font of Barcelona as, "one of the 2 new diseases (with AIDS) of the 20th century".Despite being 20 years old, and being of major importance in the diagnosis of strokes, migraine, multiple sclerosis, and miscarriage, the syndrome is still under diagnosed by doctors. This book by Kay Thackray is an important contribution to the understanding of the syndrome. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Very little meat, a lot of filler
Not much in the way of fact or information, this book is a journal of the authors experience, and not a very interesting read even as that!As a sufferer of APS, I found no new info in this book.Buy the 2nd book if you must, but I would skip this one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quick Read- Layman Oriented
This book is a quick read- one sitting & is perfect for the layman or the newly diagnosed. This book is not a good resource, however, for those who are already educated in the healthcare arena. Sticky Blood is written in a conversational and `chatty' tone, which lends to the approachability but left me hoping for more concrete fact-based information. As a matter of personal preference, I would have enjoyed a book that challenged me to live well and expect more; not to just yield to the assistance of `tablets' and energy conservation tactics. In summary- I'm thankful someone wrote a book about this topic that is friendly and easy to read, but I'll be looking for more books with studies, facts, and a challenge to live better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
This book is not bad.It has some good information in it for those that are newly diagnosed with APS.If you are looking for more "doctor" terms or have some what of an understanding of APS, then I would pass over this book. Great for family and friends who have no knowledge of this dx.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for people with APS and APS families and friends
Written for the patient with detailed and complete information. I believe anyone will learn a number of important life saving things from this book. It is especially informative for friends and family of APS afflicted people. Obviously written by a knowledgeable and caring author who has experienced the problems created by this disease and has a lot of experience dealing with others who also have the disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Need to Read This
If you have APS, you need to read this book.I only wish I had known about it when I was first diagnosed. When I found the information about it, I immediately ordered it and it continues to be of great help and comfort to me.It's easy to read as one reviewer said, but I never felt that the author was talking down to me or trying to be too simple with her language.I needed that kind of first hand knowledge and caring that Kay Thackray offered in this book and her latest one.

My doctor also appreciated it and admitted he learned quite a bit about APS from it.Thanks again to the author.
